2001 Black Bmw 740i - Great Condition! on 2040-cars
Raleigh, North Carolina, United States
For sale is a 2001 BMW 740i with 156,600 miles. The vehicle is in great shape for its age and runs like a champ. It does not leak and there are no mechanical problems. I have all the maintenance records dating back to 2004, so I should be able to answer any specific questions you may have concerning the vehicle's history. As a bonus, the car just received a brake job on July 30, so it has $700 worth of brand new pads, rotors, and sensors.
The car does NOT leak, knock, stutter, etc. The V8 engine still has all of its power and the car is just as fun to drive today as it was 10 years ago. This was the last model year for this body style of the 740, so you won't find a newer version. Despite all the positives, the car is ~14 years old, so here are the imperfections: 1. The rear passenger window pulley on the driver's side needs to be replaced. The window motor itself is fine, but the cable that moves the window is broken. Right now the window does not roll down. 2. The 'service engine soon' light has a mind of its own. I've had the codes read and the vehicle checked multiple times without ever having an actual problem, but it still comes and goes every once in a while. If you look up this issue in online message boards, you'll find that it's a common defect in this specific vehicle. Bottom line is that I've had it checked out, and no one can find a problem. Electronics are electronics... Beyond those two things, the car only shows the typical signs of use. It is in great running condition, has relatively new tires, and has been very well taken care of over the past 10 years that it's been with my family. |

BMW 2 Series specs leaked?
Wed, 09 Oct 2013Thanks to spy shots from earlier in the year, we already know what the new BMW 2 Series will look like, but now we know a lot more about the coupe courtesy of an apparent BMW South Africa error and some quick-clicking enthusiasts. Though the information no longer appears to be posted on BMW's South African website, 2addicts.com managed to grab most of the details for the new coupe, including the model lineup, specs and most (if not all) of the options list for the upcoming replacement for the 1 Series.
Just like the latest 3 Series, the 2 Series model lineup starts at the 220i powered by a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder, but the more exciting BMW figures to be the M235i with its 320-hp, 3.0-liter straight-six. With the automatic transmission, the info says that the M235i weights 3,240 pounds and will be able to accelerate from 0-62 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds - making it both lighter and quicker than the 135is currently offered in the US. The base 220i coupe should also be fun to drive with its 180 horsepower and sub-3,000 pound curb weight.
A quick side-by-side comparison of the dimensions for the base 220i with our current base 128i shows that the new coupe rides on a longer wheelbase (105.9 in. vs. 104.7 in.), is about two inches longer (174.4 in. vs. 172.2 in.) and is an inch wider (69.8 in. vs. 68.8 in.). 2addicts.com even shows available paint colors, interior trim options and lists pricing for South African-spec models. Head on over to the forum to check out all the info they have posted, but we expect the 2 Series to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show early next year.
Watch the BMW M4 drift around an aircraft carrier
Mon, 07 Jul 2014A Nimitz-class American aircraft carrier is big. Really, really big. After all, it has to be, in order to launch and recover a wide array of military aircraft. But when it's not catapulting F/A-18 Super Hornets and E-2 Hawkeyes into the wild blue yonder, what exactly can you use its 1,040-foot long flight deck for? Well, BMW seems to have an idea.
Now, obviously BMW hasn't paid Uncle Sam to convert the deck of the USS John C. Stennis into a racetrack (but what an idea!). That doesn't make this video of an Austin Yellow M4 slipping and sliding its way around the carrier deck any less entertaining. The video itself comes, weirdly considering the US aircraft carrier, from BMW of Canada, and we aren't really sure what the point of it is. There's no voiceover, or title or closing screens to lend the scene any context, and it seems unlikely that this sort of seemingly high-dollar video wouldn't be done sheerly for giggles. Whatever the reason for its existence, it's worth a watch.

BMW rethinks all-wheel-drive M cars
Fri, 04 Oct 2013BMW M hasn't been able to decide whether it wants to jump on the all-wheel-drive bandwagon or not (with the exceptions of the X5 M and the X6 M, which are based on AWD architecture). That might be changing though, since M's president Friedrich Nitschke recently realized that 70 to 80 percent of Mercedes-Benz E63 AMGs are ordered with all-wheel drive. Earlier this year, Nitschke said that there were no new AWD M models planned, so this comes as somewhat of a surprise.
"On our cars we are thinking of all-wheel drive, but it won't come before we get the successor of the M5 and M6," Nitschke said in a Motoring report. "That's the timing and it's not practical to react in the current life cycles."
