This gorgeous example of the 633 csi coupe, the latest truly desireable collectible from BMW, is in amazing ready to use condition. The selling price on this classic is below what similar cars with the 5 speed have been selling for in rough shape. Get one for less but it will cost you in the end. This car is ready to use NOW. Dont by a car with air conditioning that doesnt work, warning lights unexplainably on, etc. etc. BUY A GREAT CAR that is well sorted. READ ON!--This vehicle has clear California Title. Buy with confidence on a guaranteed buy back and clear title certification. This is a truly beautiful car with more recently spent on it than the price. Drive it anywhere, it is a jewel. This well cared for example had a repaint just last year in the original safari beige factory color, with glass out of the car and body and prep work done to an amazing high standard of workmanship. Body and paint was over $4000.00 and it shows! The flawless body and paint of this car is just one of the highlights. A true craftsman remade the front leather seats to exacting BMW standards using the correct original pattern, top quality leather hydes, and much new material inside. The rear seats are perfect and the impression is a car of a year or two in age, not  a 1981 vintage vehicle. The carpet was replaced with a full set from a low milege 1989 car which kept the originality, fit and luxury feel correct. The rear shelf upholstery, so often damaged from sun, was also replaced correctly with the leather trim redone around the parecel helf and speaker storage boxes. The headlining is all tight and intact and clean. This is a non smoking car. Next the dashboard, often a problem with these cars, was professionally reskinned using a high cost form unit that recovers the entire dash and retains originality perfectly with the look of a new car. At that time, non functioning heater and air conditioner controls were replaced with factory new units inside the dashboard. Also the difficult to get to and long ago bypassed heater core was replaced with a brand new factory unit. This is normally an extremely expensive job but it had to be done to assure that the R134A conversion of the A/C would yield a perfect heating and air conditioning unit for this luxury performance car. So few of these are in all working order on the six series cars which ruins the enjoyment. The A/C blows ice cold, and the heating works beautifully as well. If you are considering another 630, 633, or 635 make DARN SURE the heating and A/C all work and ask for receipts on a heater core or you WILL do one at over a thousand for parts and labor. If you smell coolant, just add a grand to the price of that other car...and wonder what else it needs. This one is done and ready. All four power windows also work great, as do all instruments. Car never even thinks about running hot; the gauge stays below the middle of the range in all types of service, even L.A. traffic in hot 90 degree days with the air conditioner blowing cool air to the cabin. Ahhh NICE!

Mechanically the car had the factory recommended reinforcement of the differential mounting done, and this car has the desireable Getrag 5 speed that must be the silkiest and most enjoyable gearbox I have ever used. In the past year I replaced the radiator, radiator fan, all hoses and belts, rebuilt injectors and air valves, and all of the fussy and impossible to find fuel injection hoses and factory plenum chamber hoses which make this car not only pass its strict California emissions with ease, but it runs like a swiss watch, and pulls like a locomotive. The engine and drivetrain of this car are outstanding and need nothing but a driver to enjoy them. The troublesome metric wheels have been replaced with the very desireable specified replacement GORGEOUS BBS set, and have good tread on a set of Kumho performance radials. The sound system is a cassette stereo that fits the dash nicely, and the original BMW unit is also included, recently found online and I have not tested it but was told all including cassette worked. The original plugs and wiring were not disturbed so the factory radio should be a drop in . This car has never been rusty or wrecked, with one very minor collision to the left rear way back in 1996 and repaired so well it is undetectable (see auto check). It has all of its original comprehensive onboard tool kit and factory jack, and it presents, looks, and drives like it was meant to while looking better than any other 633 you will find. The kicker is this car is priced well below the cost of its recent past years upkeep and improvements which are very extensive. The buyer will own this car well below its current book value and the new owner will be thrilled from the first drive and for many years to come. I encourage any inspection of this superb vehicle by a knowledgeable inspection service, club or enthusiast representaive of the buyer. This car is the real thing, and please see my feedback as an ebay seller and buyer over 14 years who cares about quality and will make this a great experience for the buyer. We will help with cost effective shipping, free delivery to the shipper if needed, and delivery for cost of fuel and bus ticket within 300 miles of Los Angeles.(I would LOVE to drive this one last time and meet the new lucky owner. I am in the car hobby to make friends, not to try and make money. If this were my job I'd be broke, but happy)  This is my personal collector car and I am proud of its excellence. Ask any questions and good luck this time. This is the one to grab! This car was listed at auction previously. This is now just buy it now at a very fair price. If it does not sell it will NOT be relisted. I have other avenues and some offline offers as well so now is the time!

Why won't automakers slap on a turbo badge anymore?

Thu, Sep 10 2015

Where have all the turbos gone? Not the actual pieces that go in the engine, mind you, those are everywhere these days as automakers downsize cylinder counts and boost efficiency and CO2 claims. But the turbo badges and fanfare are missing. Back when turbos were something to get excited about there was "turbo-driven," "turbonium," and "The Turbo Zone," among other silly lines. But now that basically every car is getting some sort of boost even on the lowliest trims, automakers are almost sliding in the turbos under the radar. Or if you look at some of the nomenclature, pretending they don't exist at all. The 911 Turbo badge shows where the car goes from being sane to lunatic. It's an important border. The latest automaker to hide that it has boosted the turbo presence is Porsche with the 2017 911 lineup. Even the standard Carrera models now get turbocharged flat-six engines, meaning the 911 Turbo models aren't quite as special as they once were. Porsche is in a sticky situation with this. The 911 Turbo, after all, signifies where the 911 family takes off from being a sports car and becomes the Ferrari fighter. The 911 Turbo badge shows where the car goes from being sane to lunatic. It's an important border, but now Porsche has crossed it and is trying to downplay the fact. There are a lot of exaggerations with displacement badges today, with claims the 2.0-liter turbo four in a Mercedes C Class equates to a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter six to make a C300. Volvo is pretty far up there, too, saying an XC90 T8 means V8 power, even though it's a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged four with electric assist. I don't know why BMW can't just call the car a 330i Turbo, rather than inflating the numbers up to 340i. Saab tried all of this back in the '90s when it decided to turbocharge its entire lineup, from light pressure units all the way up to models actually called "Saab 9-3 HOT" (for high-output turbo). But then the brand deleted any external reference to the turbo under the hood and people wondered why they were buying a $42,000 four-cylinder convertible. And that didn't turn out well. Even though these turbo replacements often make more power than their naturally aspirated predecessors, they're very different engines. People knew something changed when they exchanged their leased 328i with a 3.0-liter six for a 328i with a 2.0-liter turbo four.

Google reveals Alphabet, but BMW already owns that trademark

Tue, Aug 11 2015

Google co-founder Larry Page unveiled a surprise restructuring yesterday with the announcement of Alphabet, a new company that owns Google and all of its semi-related products. Google's stock soared five percent directly after the announcement, the world was busy dissecting the meaning of alpha and bet, and things looked rosy for the new company. However, there could be one problem: BMW owns the trademark and .com domain for "Alphabet." And it doesn't want to sell, a spokesperson tells the New York Times. BMW's Alphabet provides service packages to corporations with vehicle fleets. In terms of trademark infringement, it's no problem for two companies to have the same name, as long as there's no possibility of confusion for customers. In this case, there is at least one clear connection between the two organizations: BMW is a car manufacturer and Alphabet owns Google, which has a line of self-driving cars. BMW is looking into the possibility of trademark infringement, NYT reports. As for the Alphabet domain, Google's new company has secured abc.xyz, so BMW can continue using alphabet.com without worry – except for the apparent traffic overload that hit the site after Page's announcement. Google's Alphabet has a different domain issue to tackle: China has blocked its new site, despite expansive local coverage of the restructuring, Fast Company reports. This article by Jessica Conditt originally ran on Engadget, the definitive guide to this connected life. Police arrest 'Fastest Lap Around Manhattan' driver [w/video]

Fri, 06 Sep 2013

Don't speed. Don't drive recklessly. Don't try to break the unofficial record for a lap of Manhattan. And if you go against this reasonable advice, do not, under any circumstances, record it and post the video on YouTube. If you do, you'll end up like Christopher Adam Tang - under arrest and facing a bevy of charges relating to the video.
Tang posted the video, which showed him lapping Manhattan in 24 minutes last Wednesday, and it quickly went viral. Now Tang, who went by the online moniker AfroDuck, is in cuffs. According to a local CBS affiliate, he was picked up at his home on Wednesday evening by police, who also seized the car used in the video, a 2006 BMW Z4.
What isn't clear is how Tang was caught. His video seems carefully done in that there are no outwardly visible signs that point to him, while the video itself is clearly sped up. While the NYPD hasn't come out and said that Tang was caught due to its extensive surveillance systems around the city, police commissioner Ray Kelly did point out that the new systems "will assist in this type of investigation." Let that serve as a warning to anyone that tries to break the 24-minute barrier. Scroll down to watch the full video.
