THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION, PLEASE BE PREPARED TO PAY IF YOU BID!

Up for sale is my 1988 M6.  I am the 3rd owner and have owned this car for about 8 years.  I originally bought this beautiful car as I was lucky to find an original Texas car that was very well cared for, in great shape, and very important had all of the service records since new.  I have the original window sticker and dealer invoice as well as the certification from BMW Group Classic Archives-Munich Germany.

Shortly after I bought the car I started to de-cosmoline & clean up the engine bay and that turned into a full cosmetic restoration.  I went through just about everything and either replaced, re-plated, or powder coated all parts.  Here is some of what has been done:

ENGINE:
  • Removed all cosmoline from engine bay.
  • Replaced all hoses; power steering, heater, fuel lines, etc.  All replacement parts are OEM BMW down to the hose clamps.  I also had the air box, valve cover & air plenum soda blasted and powdercoated.
  • Replaced coolant resevoir/cap & washer resevoir/cap along with new windshield washer lines and clamps.
  • Mechanical work included fresh oil & filter, new power steering fluid & filter, flush and refill coolant (OEM BMW), checked valve lash (All within spec).
  • Very rare, impossible to find new original black Purolator air filter, shown in the pictures.
BODY:
  • This is an original TX car which, to my knowledge, has always been garaged and never smoked in.  I have never driven it in the rain.  There is absolutely no rust and the paint is in excellent condition with just a few nits and picks around the gorgeous body.  No accidents or body work, however the previous owner had the front airdam and hood repainted due to stone chips.  The repaint looks excellent and is two stage with clear coat.
INTERIOR:
  • The interior was in excellent condition when I bought it with only some minor wear on the drivers seat.  The original dash is in excellent condition with no cracks.  The rear deck & speaker pods are also in excellent condition with no warping.  There are only slight signs of wear on the front drivers seat and there is a small tear on the drivers side door armrest.  The rest of the interior is in immaculate condition.
  • I replaced the original airbag steering wheel with a period correct and much better looking M-Tech II 385mm wheel (I have the original steering wheel which will go to the new owner).  Also, I added a euro ashtray delete/storage tray (I have the original ashtray which will go with the car).
DRIVETRAIN:
  • The drivetrain is in excellent condition with a smooth shifting Getrag 280 5 speed and limited slip differential.  Trans. & Diff. fluid is fresh with Redline oils.  New clutch and Auto Solutions shift kit (reduces throw distance by about 30%).
SUSPENSION & STEERING:
  • Completely gone through.  Front suspension has new upper & lower control arms, center link, bushings and struts (Bilstein).  Also, the steering box was upgraded with Ed Reather's (M Wrench) steering box reinforcement kit professionally welded in.  Rear auto leveling suspension was rebuilt with new accumulators and lines and works perfect.  Originally I was going to delete the original self leveling rear suspension but the original SLS shocks were in great shape with no leaks so I kept it original.  I do however have a rear suspension SLS delete kit with M-Tech springs, Bilstein shocks, and hardware that will go to the new owner if he/she wants it.
  • Period correct and very rare BBS RS wheels in 16"x7" wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE750 225/50 tires.  The BBS's are show quality condition and the Bridgestones have less than 1,000 miles on them.  I also restored the original TRX wheels wrapped in the original style Michelin TRX GT tires (about 25% tread left) and these are included with the car to the new owner.
BRAKES:
  • Brakes have been freshened with new front rotors, Pagid pads and Stop Tech SS brake lines. Front calipers were rebuilt and re-plated in original cadmium plating.  Accumulator (AKA Brake Bomb) was replaced. Rear brakes are stock and in excellent condition.
One note about the air conditioning.  It does work however, the coolant leaks out after about a month.  If I recharge it the vents blow @ 34 degrees but for full disclosure the system will need a going through.

So there you have it.  This has to be one of the best documented, cleanest, M6's in the country and is in excellent condition throughout.  I have all the receipts/service records and lots of the original parts and spares that will go to the new owner.  I have the clear TX title in hand.  This is a no reserve auction please be prepared to pay if you bid.  A $500 security deposit is required within 48 hours of auction end with the balance due within 72 hours of the auction end via cash or certified bank money order/cashiers check.  Buyer is responsible for shipping arrangements and I can offer limited assistance with meeting your shipper at my door. Please let me know if you have any questions and good luck!

Giles Taylor succeeds Ian Cameron as head of Rolls-Royce design

Thu, 28 Jun 2012

Back in the day, a Rolls-Royce looked pretty much the same as a Bentley, but with a different grille. Once BMW took over Rolls-Royce, however, it was faced with the challenge of visually separating itself from its former sister brand. And most would agree that it did so pretty well. But its cars have looked pretty much the same ever since. What Rolls-Royce needs, then, is a bit of a design shake-up. And that's just what this latest appointment could bring.
After a baker's dozen years as design director at Rolls-Royce (and twenty years designing for the BMW Group altogether), Ian Cameron is retiring from his post. In his place, Rolls-Royce has named Giles Taylor as its new director of design. In his new capacity, Taylor will report directly to BMW Group chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk, and be responsible for all design matters related to the Rolls-Royce brand and its products.
Taylor was promoted to the role from his previous position as head of exterior design for the marque, a position he's held for barely more than a year. We'll be eagerly watching to see what the veteran British car designer has in store for the future of Rolls-Royce. In the meantime you can read the full announcement below.

BMW unleashes new M4 racer on DTM

Mon, 03 Mar 2014

We may not get to enjoy the fruits of it all, but we're in the midst of a golden age in touring car racing around the world. In Northern Europe, rival local series have amalgamated into the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship. In the UK, the British Touring Car Championship is enjoying the largest and most diverse grid in its long history. In Australia, the V8 Supercars series has grown from a Holden vs. Ford battle to include challengers from Mercedes, Nissan and Volvo. And in Germany, the DTM championship has managed to lure BMW back onto the grid to open up the battle between Mercedes and Audi. All good things, in short.
Since returning to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters in 2012, BMW has won the drivers' title once and the constructors' title twice, proving the Bavarian manufacturer to be not only a suitable challenger to the two-horse race between its star- and ring-emblazoned rivals, but the dominant force in German tin-top racing. Now BMW is set to enter its third season since returning to the DTM, and this is the car with which it intends to do so.
Replacing the M3 DTM that has impressively won half of the DTM races it has contested over the past two years, BMW's latest racing car is made in the mold of the new M4 coupe. Only it's even meaner. While the production version has switched to a turbo six, the DTM version still uses a V8: a 4.0-liter unit with four-valve cylinder heads, mandatory air restrictors and a Bosch ECU to channel 480 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque to the rear set of Hankook racing slicks through a six-speed sequential gearbox. The lightweight chassis is rounded out with competition-level aerodynamics and all the mandatory safety equipment.

BMW calls in 50,000 motorbikes over fuel pump leak

Tue, 07 Jan 2014

If you don't often see motorbikes being recalled, it's probably because there's less to go wrong on a motorcycle. But a problem with the fuel pump on a wide array of BMW Motorrad products has prompted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to issue a recall for over 50,000 of the Bavarian two-wheelers across America.
The issue revolves around the fuel pump flange on R-model, K-model, S 1000 and HP2 motorcycles built as far back, in some cases, to 2005 and as recent as 2012, depending on the model. The flange was found to be prone to crack and leak fuel, which NHTSA evaluated as a fire risk. As a result, precisely 50,184 such motorbikes are being recalled to have their flanges reinforced or, where necessary, to replace the entire fuel pump. If you're the owner of such a Bimmer bike, expect a call from your dealer sometime next month, but you can read the full notice below.
