VIN:WBAEC310XB559190 You are bidding on a 1981 BMW 635 CSI. This is a manual/stick shift. This is a Euro car with a clear Pennsylvania title. This car was sold in Germany and eventually brought legally into the U.S. sometime in the 90's, I think. I have the owner's manual in German and also the original person who purchased it in Germany is in the book. Kind of cool. The dashboard was replaced and the odometer along with it. The original odometer is still in the trunk and is up to 174,000 miles. I cannot say with any accuracy how many miles have been put on since. Please read carefully so you can fully understand the car you are bidding on and the condition of the vehicle. The car is sold As Is. My goal is to be as honest as possible. If you have a question that is not answered below send me an email. I will answer promptly. I am also available to talk live if you prefer. THERE IS NO RESERVE.
The Good
The exterior of this BMW is gorgeous. It's really a cool color and different than anything else out there with a unique gold. There is a small paint chip about the size of a dime on the trunk of the car. Other than that the outside is really in solid shape. The tires are almost brand new and the rims are nice. Three of the rims have the BMW logo in the center. One does not. The tires will pass inspection as well as the brakes. The brakes make this odd chirping sound which I was told is the calipers. It doesn't make it all the time but sometimes. However they brakes are safe and will absolutely pass inspection. The clutch is good and the car shifts flawlessly. This BMW drives great. It shifts, accelerates, and handles like you would expect from a BMW. The best I can tell from my experience is the engine is in solid shape. Between the rims, tires, engine and exterior metal the car is easily worth $1,500 with those pieces.
Inspection
The car passed inspection in North Carolina last year. This is where I purchased it. It does not pass inspection in Pennsylvania. Your state may vary on what is required as some states are more stringent than others. The lights, turn signal, brakes, and tires all pass inspection. I will explain the difficulties with the PA inspection below.
The OK
The seats are in OK condition. There is wear you would expect and the front seats have some rips in the leather. You would definitely want to get it fixed or put a cover over it. However you don't have to. There is nothing uncomfortable about it. It's just cosmetic. The floor on the interior of the car is also OK. It is a little worn as you would expect for a 32 year old car. I am uncertain if it will come back to natural color with a good carpet cleaning. The tool set in the trunk still has the place for all the tools and about 1/2 the tools. It's mostly the wrenches. The heat functions OK. It seems to work better coming from the defroster than the vents but it was enough that I was able to keep warm driving it in 35 degree weather.
The Bad
The sway bar needs to be replaced as well as the left tie rod. The exhaust from the beginning to the catalytic converter are in GOOD shape. Beyond the catalytic converter it's shot. The good news is you do NOT need to replace the catalytic converter forward. Just the piping to the back of the muffler. There is small hole about the size of a softball in the bottom of the car on the drivers side. You cannot see it from inside the car and I have not seen it underneath. The mechanic told me about it and guessed it would cost about $250 to fix. The sway bar, hole, and tie rods will need to be replaced to pass inspection in PA. I do not know the rules for other states but apparently it will pass in NC. The AC does not work. There is small rip in covering of one of the back speakers. It doesn't affect the speaker. The visor area is hanging a little. It does not disrupt anything and if you didn't look up you wouldn't notice it. This is an easy fix and would probably cost $50 from a shop or you could easily do it yourself.
There is one odd thing that just occurred. The windshield wipers are constantly on. I pulled the fuse to stop it. It's really strange because it just happened after 6 months. My guess it's a cross somewhere.
Closing
I wrote down everything I'm aware of it. Feel free to ask any questions. The car is great on the outside and runs fantastic. It's really a question of if you are willing to put the time into it or pay a mechanic to do it. I had the sway bar and tie rod pieces prices out and they are not that expensive. The cost as with all things is your time or paying someone to do it. So it's simple math. Figure out what it would cost to get it to pass inspection and be safe, add in the cost of the bid on ebay. If that makes sense to you, bid with confidence.

Recharge Wrap-up: Grimsel electric car breaks acceleration world record, electric Ford Raptor ATV debuts
Sun, Nov 16 2014An all-electric version of the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is now available... as an ATV. Made by Caddyshack Golf Cars, it features officially licensed Ford badging borrowed from the super-macho pickup. It has a lifted chassis with leaf springs in the front and rear, hydraulic shocks and off-road tires. Powered by a 48-volt motor, it can do 0-25 mph in 2.9 seconds. Range is an estimated 30 miles - plenty to get you through 18 of the most rugged holes of golf you've ever played. Caddyshack also offers other miniature electric Fords, including a Shelby GT500, Shelby Cobra and 50th Anniversary Mustang. Read more at Green Car Reports. Lexus takes a crack at the BMW i3 in a new video from Funny or Die. In the decidedly anti-EV film, a group of guys drives to Las Vegas for a "dad-chelor party" in a Lexus CT 200h and a BMW i3. The Lexus hybrid makes it to Sin City without any problems, while the BMW's occupants need to make several lengthy stops to charge along the way, missing much of the fun. The video lampoons the inherent range limitations of the EV (the BMW group ends up driving slowly through the desert with no AC or radio to save energy), all in a well produced, if somewhat misguided, short comedy film. Perhaps they should have considered the i3 with a range extender? See the video below, or read more at Green Car Reports. Students from ETH Zurich and Lucerne University have set a new EV acceleration world record. Their "Grimsel" racing car was able to zoom from 0-100 kph (0-62.137 mph) in just 1.785 seconds in less than 30 meters (98.425 feet), crushing the previous record of 2.134 seconds. Even more impressive is that the Grimsel was built by the students themselves, as part of the Formula Student team at the Academic Motorsports Club Zurich. The car weighs just 370 pounds and provides 200 horsepower and 1,202 pound feet of torque from the four hub motors. The Grimsel uses traction control to manage torque for maximum acceleration. See the record acceleration run in the videos below or read more at Gizmag, at Electric Autosport or in the press release from ETH Zurich below. 'grimsel' breaks world record The 'grimsel' electric racing car today broke the previous world record for acceleration in electric cars. The vehicle accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.785 seconds in under 30 metres. The new record was set by students from ETH Zurich and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, who also designed and built the vehicle.
BMW electrifies the 2 Series Active Tourer with a plug-in prototype
Thu, Jul 2 2015BMW is developing a hybrid version of its 2 Series Active Tourer. At the company's Innovation Days 2015, we're finally getting to see the fruits of that electric labor with a prototype for a plug-in hybrid version of the front-wheel-drive hatchback. The Bavarians aren't keeping a secret that they intend to build a model like this in the future. But like the rest of the Active Tourer family, it's likely to remain unavailable to US buyers. BMW is already somewhat familiar with the realm of plug-ins with its i sub-brand and forthcoming X5 xDrive40e PHEV. This 2 Series Active Tourer is largely an adaptation of some of that tech. Up front, there's the company's transversely mounted, 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine making 134 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, and it's linked to a six-speed automatic gearbox. A generator on the front axle can also briefly boost output by 20 hp and 111 lb-ft, or help charge the rear-mounted battery. At the back is an electric motor making 87 hp and 122 lb-ft with a two-speed transmission spinning the rear axle. All of this is linked together via the Dynamic Stability Control to shuffle around power as necessary. The hybrid system generally prioritizes using electric power at speeds below 50 miles per hour and kicks on the engine from there. Depending on the settings, drivers can also force it into EV mode with a maximum range predicted at nearly 24 miles. BMW claims the 2 Series Active Tourer PHEV could get to 62 mph in a brisk 6.4 seconds, and the company estimates the setup can return the equivalent of 118 miles per gallon on the European cycle. While there's a lot of equipment to package together in this system, BMW claims that interior room is identical to the purely internal combustion version. The hybrid battery is under the rear seat, and propulsion for the back wheels is centered around the axle. As a prototype, the automaker isn't really talking pricing yet beyond stating buyers "do not have to pay a high premium for the technology." 2. BMW eDrive in the pipeline for further BMW models: The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer plug-in hybrid prototype. The advent of plug-in hybrid variants in various model series from the BMW brand is making all-electric driving with zero local emissions in a premium car a possibility for an ever-increasing number of target groups.
Watch Emily Blunt and John Krasinski prank Jimmy Kimmel's SUV
Thu, Dec 18 2014Jimmy Kimmel has a bit of a rivalry going with Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. Not like the "I'm on television, you're on the radio" one he has with his former Man Show co-host Adam Carolla (who of course has more to do with cars than the last name he almost shares with a Toyota economy sedan). With Blunt and Krasinski, it's more of a prank rivalry. The Hollywood couple, you see, live across the street from Kimmel, and they're all good friends. But come the holiday season, things get a little competitive. One year they broke into Jimmy's house and left an illuminated snowman and some sort of santa bear in his foyer. Jimmy retaliated, the Krasinskis escalated, and up and up things went until Jimmy had their entire house wrapped like a gift. John and Emily weren't going to leave it at that, though, and took things in a decidedly more automotive direction. They gift-wrapped the host's BMW X5 and filled it with balls. But they didn't stop there. You'll want to watch the footage above to see how things ended, just take note of the roll cage visible as Krasinski-Clause stumbles out of the car in that last scene and remember that, while we couldn't say no vehicles were actually harmed in the making of this segment, at least it doesn't appear to have actually been Kimmel's.
