2001 BMW 540i

SPORT M – PACKAGE

6 SPEED

You are bidding on my 2001 BMW 540i Sport 6 speed. This is a very rare BMW 5 series E39 chassis.  I looked for a long time before locating a low mileage sport with a manual transmission. The bonus for me was the black and tan color combination.  This is a very well maintained vehicle and the only reason I am selling it is my new job requires me to have a larger vehicle.  Most of the miles have been accumulated on the interstate with a 27.5 MPG average.  I have owned several different vehicles and this one by far has been my favorite.

Please look study the photos as you can see it’s in very good condition. I have always used Pennzoil Ultra Oil and changed with a new filter every 6,000 miles.  Cabin/Air filters have been changed every 12,000 miles and I change the transmission and rear differential every year with Royal Purple.  I have changed spark plugs twice since I purchased the car with 46,000 miles.  The car has a set of Bilstein dampners that should last forever. There are no missing pixels in the dash. The rear tires are like new and the fronts will last another 25,000 miles or more. I take very good care of my vehicles and I got 40,000 plus miles from a rear set of high performance tires.  The vehicle has a staggered set of tires.

I have replaced the front wheel bearings, alternator, radiator overflow, and 2 window motors. If I was keeping the vehicle I would consider replacing the valve cover gaskets and valley pan as they will need to be serviced at some point. Also, this is a sunroof car, the sunroof works and is leak free and wind noise free, it occasionally makes a noise that I have not been able to identify. However, you can drive the wheels off of this car and not worry about it depreciating any more.

I will not provide shipping however I will help work with winning bidder.   Good luck and please contact me if I can provide any additional information.

BMW to follow Honda back into F1?

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

The economic downturn wrought devastating effects on motor racing. Formula One alone lost half its engine suppliers when Honda left at the end of the 2008 season, and both BMW and Toyota followed at the end of 2009. But things are looking up again. Cosworth may have dropped out this season, reducing the engine suppliers to three: Ferrari, Renault and Mercedes, the latter of which admits that it may have left had the engine formula not changed. But Mercedes has stayed and is dominating the championship. Honda is coming back next season. And word around the paddock is it may not be the only one.
According to Giancarlo Minardi - founder of the team now known as Scuderia Toro Rosso - BMW engineers have been conspicuously spotted lately at F1 test sessions and grands prix, lending to speculation that the new engine regulations may entice the Bavarian automaker back into the series. According to Minardi, BMW's marketing division is pushing for the automaker's return to F1, with the board slated to make a decision in May. BMW would be more likely to consider an engine-supply deal rather than taking a team over like it had with Sauber, but with which team or teams it might collaborate remains a big question mark at this point.
As if that's not enough, Ford is said to be considering taking over Cosworth's aborted V6 turbo engine program to take both outfits back into the sport as well. Cosworth supplied F1 engines under the Ford banner for years, but returned under its own name for four seasons from 2010 through 2013 before shuttering its program to develop an engine to meet the new regulations adopted this season.

BMW to pay $1.6M, rehire workers in discrimination settlement

Thu, Sep 10 2015

A BMW subsidiary is on the hook for $1.6 million and must rehire workers as part of a settlement for a race discrimination lawsuit with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. A change in BMW Manufacturing's criminal background check policy at the Spartanburg, SC, factory disproportionately affected African American workers, according to the EEOC, and it cost many people their jobs. The automaker has since changed the policy. According to Automotive News, the suit stemmed from BMW switching logistics contractors at the plant in 2008. As a result, 645 existing workers had to submit revised criminal background checks to keep their jobs. About 100 people didn't meet the new guidelines, according to the EEOC, and they lost their jobs. Around 80 percent of those affected were African American. According to the government agency's complaint, the altered procedures only took into account the category of a crime, not factors like when it occurred or whether the infraction was a misdemeanor or felony. With the settlement accepted by US District Court, BMW must offer work to the affected employees in this case and as many as 90 African American applicants that the contractor didn't hire because of the rules. The automaker also must offer training in the proper manner for criminal background checks. While there's nothing inherently wrong with investigating workers, "when a criminal background screen results in the disproportionate exclusion of African-Americans from job opportunities, the employer must evaluate whether the policy is job related and consistent with a business necessity," P. David Lopez, the EEOC's General Counsel, said in the agency's release, which you can read below. BMW to Pay $1.6 Million and Offer Jobs to Settle Federal Race Discrimination Lawsuit Company's Criminal Background Policy Disproportionately Affected African-American Logistics Workers, EEOC Charged GREENVILLE, S.C. - The U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina today entered a consent decree ordering BMW Manufacturing Co., LLC (BMW) to pay $1.6 million and provide job opportunities to alleged victims of race discrimination as part of the resolution of a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
