Up for sale is my 1995 BMW 540i E34. The car was originally purchased by my grandfather from BMW of San Diego back in 1995 for nearly $50,000 ($77,000 in today's money adjusted for inflation) and I got it from him. I still have the original sale's receipt and window sticker as well! He took great care of his car, always garage-kept, always serviced on time and with genuine BMW parts and I have continued this into my ownership.

The car carries a clean California title, has NEVER been in any accident, and is a southern California rust-free car in amazing condition. Car has a beautiful black paint exterior with a matching black leather interior, both in great shape. There are some cosmetic issues that I have described in the condition description, but overall the vehicle is in great shape for a car of this age. Has ALWAYS been kept in the garage by both me and my grandfather, and it shows when you compare this 5-series to others of the same vintage.

All electronics work perfectly, with the exception of the speaker on the drivers side not working- I was told it could use a new head unit- I like to keep my cars original so I have not changed it. No fault codes in the diagnostic computer when I had the car checked out.

1995 was the last year of the E34 5-series, so you're getting the most refined and advanced this series had to offer.  These cars were the most reliable cars BMW ever built, they are known to go 300k+miles as long as they are properly maintained, and this one is no exception. Only 140k miles on the car, so it has a long life ahead!

Engine runs perfectly, just like a legendary BMW V8 should. You will not find a cleaner and better condition E34 on Craigslist, this car will serve you a lifetime as long as you continue to properly maintain it as well as I have! I've always used 91 octane premium fuel, only used BMW OEM parts when servicing,  and I've just babied this car always, just as my grandfather had.

I just got the car smogged and it passed with flying colors for you California buyers. Registration is also current through the end of they year. I also performed a pre-purchase inspection on the vehicle and replaced all the important things that needed attention.

I'm a BMW enthusiast, and have spared no expense on maintaining this machine. I've changed many parts with new ones, here's a short list from the most recent service:

-New Air Filter
-New Power Steering fluid reservoir, filter, and liquid
-New radiator
-New battery
-New water pump
-New power steering pump
-New valve cover gaskets
-New windshield wipers
-New hood shocks
-New exhaust hangers/doughnuts
-New shifter lining
-Many new rubber parts in engine bay

Below are some pics, I'm going to try and get some higher res pics up later this week, along with a video walkthrough. Please feel free to message me with any questions you may have. Car is also up for sale locally, so I reserve the right to cancel auction at any time.

BMW, Mercedes ponder challengers to Uber

Fri, Sep 18 2015

With autonomous vehicles seemingly just on the horizon of actually arriving to consumers, companies in the auto industry are already thinking about how the innovations could radically change how they do business. For example, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are considering a time where they might transform into ridesharing companies, according to Reuters. It almost sounds like the sci-fi motoring world Bob Lutz is predicting. The German brands foresee a future where some people hail their driverless cars like taxis and use them for short trips. The automakers could run those fleets, essentially making them Uber competitors. In fact, Tesla is reportedly mulling the idea, and Google might be, too. Alternatively, ridesharing services could buy the companies' models directly. "New mobility concepts will emerge with autonomous vehicles, which are robot cars. Fleet management will become a much more significant business," Peter Schwarzenbauer, BMW board of management member in charge of Mini, said to Reuters. With BMW's DriveNow and Daimler's Car2Go car-sharing services, both automakers are already experimenting with alternative ways to get their vehicles on the road. It's not too hard to imagine one of the brand's peppering a few autonomous cars into those fleets someday to test these new theories in the real world. "The ability to use a car, and then walk away is a serious business," Ian Robertson, BMW's head of sales and marketing, said about the future of driverless tech to Reuters. Related Video:

BMW, Hyundai score big in JD Power's first Tech Experience Index

Mon, Oct 10 2016

While automakers are quick to brag about winning a JD Power Initial Quality Study award, the reality, as we've pointed out before, is that these ratings are somewhat misleading, since IQS doesn't necessarily distinguish genuine quality issues. JD Power's new Tech Experience Index aims to solve that problem. The new metric takes the same 90-day approach as IQS but focuses exclusively on technology – collision protection, comfort and convenience, driving assistance, entertainment and connectivity, navigation, and smartphone mirroring. It splits the industry up into just seven segments, based loosely on size, which is why the Chevrolet Camaro is in the same division (mid-size) as Kia Sorento and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is in the same segment as the Hyundai Genesis (mid-size premium). It makes for some screwy bedfellows, to be sure. Still, splitting tech experience away from initial quality should allow customers to make more informed and intelligent decisions when buying new vehicles. In the inaugural study, respondents listed BMW and Hyundai as the big winners, with two segment awards – the 2 Series for small premium and the 4 Series for compact premium, and the Genesis for mid-size premium and Tucson for small segment. The Chevrolet Camaro (midsize), Kia Forte (compact), and Nissan Maxima (large) scored individual wins. Ford also had a surprising hit with the Lincoln MKC, which ranked third in the compact premium segment behind the 4 Series and Lexus IS. This is a coup for the Blue Oval, whose woeful MyFord Touch systems made the brand a victim of the IQS' flaws in the early 2010s. But Ford and other automakers might not want to celebrate just yet. According to JD Power, there's still a lot of room for improvement – navigation systems were the lowest-rated piece of tech in the study. Instead, customers repeatedly saluted collision-avoidance and safety systems, giving the category the best marks of the study and listing blind-spot monitoring and backup cameras as two must-have features – 96 percent of respondents said they wanted those two systems in their next vehicle. But this isn't really a surprise. Implementation of safety systems from brand to brand is similar, and they don't require any input from users, unlike navigation and infotainment systems which are frustratingly deep.

Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo torquing its way toward Frankfurt

Mon, 09 Sep 2013

Few tuners benefit from the kind of factory support that Alpina does, giving the pseudo-aftermarket firm nearly as much official status as BMW's own M division. And this is its latest product.
Set to debut, as expected, at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week is the new Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo, which you can consider, for all intents and purposes, the diesel M3 that BMW never built. While the outgoing D3 (which was Alpina's best-selling model) used a four-cylinder engine, Autocar reports that the new model packs a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo inline-six diesel to drive a respectable 345 horsepower but a mammoth 516 pound-feet of torque to either the rear wheels or all four through the optional availability of xDrive. (European buyers will also be able to choose between sedan and wagon bodystyles.)
The engine is the same as you'd find in the XD3 and D5 (Alpina's diesel performance versions of the X3 and 5 Series, respectively), but in the lighter 3 Series form can propel the D3 Bi-Turbo up to 62 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds and on to an Autobahn-crunching top speed of 173 mph. And as per Alpina tradition, visual cues are minimal, with a subtly optimized aero kit and 19- or available 20-inch alloy wheels. Unfortunately, the 7 Series-based B7 is the only Alpina we get on this side of the Atlantic, but an oil-drenched performance enthusiast can dream.
