Very rare combination of V8 and 6 speed manual transmission in a BMW Luxury car, built for the select few who really love cars. This car is very quick but also very refined and comfortable. And this one is very solid and rust free. It has never been damaged. It was brought up from Florida two years ago and it has been well cared for, always garaged and never driven the winter. This car can set as much as 28 mpg on the Highway despite the fact that it will accelerate faster than almost anything you find on a public roads. It has been enjoyed, but not abused by the 2 middle aged owners  and it will run just fine for another decade for a 3rd owner. This is a rare chance to own a very fine performance car for the fraction of the price of what the new version costs.

540i
In 1993 BMW added a 4.0 liter V8 to the 5 series line up. It was available in both sedan and touring models (the latter  in US). Its large, torquey engine, upgraded brakes, and 5-speed automatic or rare optional 6-speed transmission (offered in 1995 in North America, from 1993 to 1996 in Europe) made it very competitive in the sports sedan market. Only 3203 examples of the 540i 6spd were produced, in the following versions;

HE51 LHD European Limousine; 797 Examples
*HE53 LHD North American Limousine; 1524 examples (1524 6-speeds in North America )

Shipping and handling: It is the buyers responsibility for shipping and handling after the bid ends.
                                  (*Only serious bidders please.)

I put my heart on my listing and will go an extra mile for every customer.

Thank you.

BMW i8 fully revealed ahead of Frankfurt debut

Tue, 10 Sep 2013

It may be early in the morning here in the US, but in Germany, the first day of the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show is in full swing. BMW took advantage of the early start and showed off its long-awaited i8 plug-in hybrid sportscar, a two-plus-two, swan-wing-doored coupe, to the Frankfurt crowd.
We drove a BMW i8 prototype back in August, so many of the things we're reading today are clarifications on our initial suspicions or speculations. Underhood sits a 1.5-liter, turbocharged, three-cylinder engine. On its own, it churns out a respectable 231 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque, which is then channeled to the rear wheels by way of a six-speed automatic transmission. An electric motor, meanwhile, sends 131 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque through a two-speed automatic to the front wheels.
With all-wheel drive at its disposal, the total system power sits at 362 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque, and allows the i8 to scamper to 62 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds. That excellent performance is offset by an estimated fuel economy figure of 94 miles per gallon, though, making this a fast and efficient vehicle. Charging is impressively fast on the i8, with a full charge coming from a 110-volt outlet in under four hours. A BMW Charging Station will trim the charge time down to 1.5 hours.

Can the government mechanically force you to wear your seatbelt? [w/poll]

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

The National Highway Traffic Administration is considering the use of ignition interlocks in vehicles that would require the seatbelts of occupied seats to be fastened in order to drive the car, Automotive News reports, four decades after Congress moved to prevent manufacturers from installing them in cars sold in the US market. Following a transportation bill passed last year that lift some of the restrictions on seatbelt interlocks, automakers such as BMW are considering the benefits of using them in future cars. Now, before you go crying about your lost freedom, keep reading.
BMW said in an October 2012 petition that the use of seatbelt interlocks would allow the company to make lighter and more spacious vehicles, if the devices could be used in lieu of unbelted crash tests. The crash test has required the addition of bulky safety features, such as knee bolsters, that aren't as necessary when occupants are buckled up, especially when considering the dizzyng list of safety features that come standard on today's cars. Europe, which has a higher rate of seatbelt use than in the US, doesn't perform unbelted crash tests on cars sold there.
