The BAD: We live in Federal Hill and have no guaranteed parking. With that said, the folks that walk the streets all hours of the night sit on the body work with their jeans and stuff and have scratched the car up pretty good. Major dings are shown in the pictures. There is also an issue with the driver's side door weatherstripping. It has delaminated from the vehicle body and then the door was slammed before this was noticed. As such, there is a small air leak in the through the driver's side door at all times.
The GOOD: The car currently holds PA tags & inspection. The car is owned w/ title in hand.
New tires were put on in the last 10k miles along with a 90,000 mile engine from Bavarian Auto Recyclers (receipt in hand). This car has NO SES (Service Engine Soon) lights! The coil pack on cylinder 1 was recently replaced due to misfiring issues. Both post-cat O2 sensors have been replaced w/ Bosch units.
Also, the front control arms and bushings were replaced with UUC upgrades, so the car handles like a dream. New pads and rotors all around.
Recently replaced stuff:
- Spark plugs
- Engine (90k mile used motor from BAVAuto)
- 1 new coil pack on cylinder 1
- new tires
- new CCV (oil separator)
- new coolant lines (the plastic crap that breaks at 150k)
- new expansion tank
- all fluids flushed -> coolant, oil, brake fluid, trans fluid, clutch hydraulic, etc.
- new post cat O2 sensors
- new AC condenser
- new belts
- new front control arms
- new front engine mounts
In addition, the car comes with a spare intake manifold, valve cover, and other spare engine components...

Formula E gets wireless-charging BMW i8 safety car [w/video]
Tue, 26 Aug 2014Racing series typically select a safety car appropriate to the kinds of racecars for which they'll be setting the pace. So you might find a Mercedes SLS pacing a Formula One grand prix, for example, and you're more likely to find a BMW M4 on duty at a DTM race and a Chevy Camaro or SS on an oval speedway for a NASCAR or Indy race. It would only stand to reason, then, that the FIA Formula E Championship kicking off next month in Beijing would press a plug-in into service as its safety car. But the organizers didn't go for your run-of-the-mill Nissan Leaf or Toyota Prius.
No, the safety car for Formula E will be a BMW i8 specially modified for the occasion. As you can see from the video below, the hybrid sports car packs a full roll cage, racing buckets with harnesses, special communications systems and on-board fire extinguishers. But that's not all.
In partnership with technological partner Qualcomm, the Formula E support fleet - including two examples each of the i8 and i3 - will feature inductive charging. So while one is out on the track, or at least sitting at the end of the pit lane waiting to be deployed - the other will be charging wirelessly. The vehicles are still pending FIA approval, and only one has been outfitted with the Qualcomm Halo wireless charging system (with the others to be retrofitted later), but they were all on hand for the recent practice race at Donnington Park.
BMW and Samsung team up with Galaxy Gear smartwatch that talks to your i3
Sun, 12 Jan 2014Without a doubt, the most impressive thing that BMW showed at CES this year was a driverless M235i drifting flawlessly around a wet track at Las Vegas Speedway. However, that bit of robotic helmsmanship wasn't the only trick the German company had up its sleeve. Or, more to the point, on its wrist.
Taking a page from rival Mercedes-Benz, BMW demonstrated how a "smartwatch," in this case the Samsung Galaxy Gear, could be made to function usefully with a vehicle, in this case the BMW i3. Calling it a "research application," BMW showed off its BMW i Remote App on the Galaxy Gear; the app gives information about state of battery charge, available range and whether or not all the doors and windows are closed or open. Perhaps more useful still, the watch can be used to send a destination to the i3's navigation unit, adjust the climate control in preparation for a trip and can recognize voice commands. Nifty stuff, if not world-shaking, that could help tech-obsessed luxury buyers take a second look at the upcoming BMW EV.
Take a closer look at the watch in action below, or read thru the BMW press release.
NHTSA gives okay for three automakers to skirt tire-related recalls
Thu, 25 Jul 2013BMW, Honda, and Mercedes-Benz are all going to avoid small recalls, after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued petitions for "findings of inconsequential noncompliance" to the three manufacturers, according to Tire Business. Basically, the petitions allow the brands to avoid recalls for some very, very minor issues.
BMW had tire placards on 364 X6 M CUVs that stated the car could only handle four passengers, when in reality it had room for three in the back. Actual plausibility of fitting three real humans in the slope-roofed Bimmer aside, the Munich-based manufacturer argued it was inconsequential, as the placards were correct regardless of the number of passengers.
Honda's case focused on 212 2011 and 2012 Acura TSX sedans equipped with 18-inch wheels. The TPMS systems on these cars were set for 17-inch wheels, rather than the larger hoops, but even with the lower settings, the tires maintain adequate load capacity.
