What I have on offer is an extremely straight and rust free BMW e21 3-Series that I bought last year as a project and first car for my Nephew. The direction we chose was an Alpina tribute car. It is NOT an authentic Alpina, nor will you have to bid the $30K that real ones bring!

It came with the Sport steering wheel and BMW Leather seats made by Recaro. This is consistent with the car being the desirable "is" model, although I cannot be sure. It is wired for driving lights as well. I do not believe that it has a Limited Slip Differential at this time. What it does have are blacked out BMW factory issue 13" Alpina wheels accented in white & shod with incredibly sticky Yokohama AO48 tires with less than 200 miles on them! I also have a set of 15" Parallel 5-Spoke wheels with new Falken tires available to winning bidder at additional cost if desired. I will post a picture of one of those wheels as well as the car with the set mounted up prior to installation of graphics. Also comes with factory original full sized spare on a 5th 13" Alpina wheel and I think neither has ever seen use. Jack, lug wrench and full tool kit are there if you need them.

Car has been executed in a strict Black & White theme with all the side moldings, bumper, window trim, headlight rings, trunk lettering, wheels, etc. done in Black Satin. Attention to detail included tail light section being a solid unit and even the license plate bracket and frame are cooperating. The only thing shiny on the car are the emblems, kidney grill and lots of straight body panels in brilliant white.

Stereo is Sony Xplod with 4 new speakers, various trim bits inside follow theme outside. Car runs strong, has a custom free flow exhaust that makes good noises. It has been recently tuned including timing, fuel injection and valves adjusted. It gets 25-30 MPG, Passed CA smog in December, registration current and does not expire till 10/26/2013. Never overheats, A/C components removed by previous owner. Rear side markers removed, filled and finished prior to recent paint job. Currently installed up front are the highly desirable BBS air dam, which is mounted via rivets which are hidden when the front bumper is installed (easily done and no bumper-preventing mods have been done). Bumper shock access holes currently taped over. I just liked the motorsports look without the bumper! Rear bumper has been tucked. You will also notice the low profile turn signal lenses and Euro amber high beams. Windshield is brand new as is window tint. Rack & Pinion steering bushings and lower control arms just replaced, followed by an alignment.

In conclusion: It's pretty, it's safe, it's reliable and fun to drive, especially in corners! It's also not perfect and is 30 years old. Parts are cheap and readily available. Whatever else it is or isn't is for you to decide, but winner should be prepared for lots of stares and approving gestures from everyone from kids on bicycles to drivers of M6's! You will never have to wonder which car is yours in the parking lot either. And before I forget, selling due to the Kid's newly acquired snowboarding obsession and the need for an AWD alternative to get him up the mountain when the snow flies!

Thanks for looking.

2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe

Wed, 30 Oct 2013

One of the many perks of this job is, not surprisingly, the cars. It's relatively easy to snag the keys to a vehicle for a special occasion, whether that be for a road trip, tailgating or helping a friend move. And while sometimes the tailgating might happen with a Ford F-150 instead of a Range Rover and the road trip might be in a minivan rather than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, occasionally the stars align and a special vehicle arrives for an equally special time.
That's exactly how I found myself dressed to the nines and behind the wheel of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe, a $135,375 (as-tested) rocket ship, en route to a rare multi-wedding weekend to celebrate with two pairs of my closest friends on the biggest day of their lives (a very special congratulations to Kara and Zach, and Laura and Andrew). Continuing with our nuptial theme, the M mechanicals and the 6 Series Gran Coupe body are a match made in heaven.

Jay Leno puts focus on some retro-inspired BMW bikes

Mon, 28 Jul 2014

Jay Leno puts eight wheels on display this week for Jay Leno's Garage from a quartet of retro-inspired BMW motorcycles. They are the creations of husband and wife team Larry and Carol Romestant, who build each one in their home garage.
Larry is a former aerospace engineer who loves BMW bikes, especially the K models. Now, he's combining his passion with a real talent for fabrication to build his own cycles with his wife. With Larry and Carol the only ones working on these projects, it takes them six to nine months to build each one. In addition to the old-school looks, the motorcycles are supposed to be a bit more user friendly than stock. For example, one of them ditches the standard five-speed gearbox in favor of a six-speed unit to be a little more comfy when cruising at high speeds.
Since there isn't enough time to take all four of them for a ride, Jay picks his favorite to test out on the open road. Scroll down to see which one he chooses.

BMW-Toyota joint sports car project is on like Donkey Kong

Mon, 30 Dec 2013

It's official - there will be a jointly developed sports car from BMW and Toyota. While the two auto giants signed a Memorandum of Understanding that pledged to pursue "joint development of architecture and components for a future sports vehicle" back in June of 2012, in the interim, it has remained unclear how those plans had been progressing. BMW has finally officially confirmed that the German and Japanese manufacturers will be codeveloping a pair of sports cars in addition to pursuing other disciplines including fuel cell systems and lightweight technologies.
"We have agreed on a joint architecture for a sports car. What is important is that there will be two different vehicles that are authentic to the two brands," BMW Development Chief Herbert Diess told Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Reuters is reporting. This is a very, very big step for both brands, but now the speculation can officially begin as to what the products of this agreement will look like.
There's ample reason to believe that the BMW-Toyota tie up will result in a Supra successor based on comments made by the chief engineer of the GT86/FR-S program, Tatsuya Tada, back in August. Follow that with a rumor from earlier this month that Toyota could debut a Supra concept car at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show later this month, and we could be seeing the fruits of this partnership sooner rather than later.
