You are bidding on a 1973 BMW 2002tii.  I can almost guarantee one thing--drive this car to your favorite car event or even the gas station and you'll have more people coming out of the woodwork and commenting, asking questions and complimenting than if you drove up in a brand new M4!!!  This car really grabs people's attention.

A bit of history.  I bought this car as a totally complete non-running tii at a charity auction about 15 years ago.  I kept it covered beside my garage for several years and then sold it to a friend of mine.  My friend did all the great work on the car to bring it to the condition it is in today.  He is  a truly talented mechanic, fabricator and body man.  I bought it back from him a few years ago when he needed some cash for another project.  Since then, I have had to do absolutely nothing to the car but drive it.  Honestly, I have never had to do ANYTHING to this car--no adjustments, tune ups, NOTHING.  I have never tracked the car.  The car shows 75,513 miles but that may not be accurate.  As 2002s go, it is rust free.

The engine has been thoroughly and professionally built.  The head has been ported and polished.  It features dual Dell'Orto side draft carburetors with a Korman intake and Mann cam.  It has remote electronic ignition, remote oil filter, remote electric fuel pump, adjustable fuel pressure and gauge, along with headers and a custom Supertrap exhaust.  The battery has been relocated to the trunk.  The transmission is the original 4 speed but also included in this auction is a 5 speed from a 1982 320i along with the instruction manual to do a 5 speed conversion.  It has a limited slip differential.  The engine starts and runs easily, has tremendous oil pressure, runs GREAT and stays cool.  It is very streetable and very reliable.  I am also including all the original Kuegelfisher fuel injection parts that I have from the original tii.  The body is painted in red has molded in fender flares front and rear along with a front air dam and Zender rear spoiler.  The wheels are Panasport copies with 205/50R15 tires.  A wheel stud kit is installed on all hubs.  Also included is another set of aftermarket wheels with road race tires.  The interior features a full roll cage and Recaro seats.  It has a full complement of gauges including volts, oil pressure and temperature.

To the best of my knowledge everything is working on the car except the heat--just needs a control cable and the clock (they never work).  The clutch slave cylinder seeps a bit of fluid but works perfectly.  You will see a very minor drip of oil (quarter size) or so after it has been parked awhile.  The car needs to have a good going through of the suspension.  If I kept the car, I would replace all the bushings and any worn ball joints, tie rods, shocks etc. and then give the car a proper alignment.  It does have custom springs but it does need a good going through of the suspension.  With wheel width spacers in, the right rear tire will rub the inner wheel well.  This is because the rear bushings are shot.  With spacers out, it is fine.

I have had many 2002s, so along with this auction, you are welcome to take what you want of my extensive collection of 2002 parts.  There are bumpers, transmissions, engine parts, seats, body parts, gas tanks and so on. All free with the car.  If you want it all, bring a big truck and trailer!!

I want the buyer to be happy with your purchase so I have tried to give a true picture and description of the car.  It is a great car and looks VERY cool.  It is not a show car but a very good driver that could be used every day or put on the track with just a little suspension tune up.  Feel free to email me with questions or send me your email and I can send more pictures.  I hate to let it go but I just don't have the time any more to do the suspension.  I'm sure I will think back one day and regret selling it.

A $500 deposit is required via PayPal at auction close.  The balance is to be paid in cash and you will get a free and clear clean title when you pick it up.  Happy bidding and good luck!

BMW Vision Gran Turismo takes M235i Racing to the virtual extreme [w/videos]

Wed, 14 May 2014

Late last year, Mercedes-AMG worked up a concept car called the Vision Gran Turismo. It presented it at the Los Angeles Auto Show, but that wasn't the point: the point was that it would feature in Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 3. It wasn't the first concept created specifically for the popular driving simulator - following similar projects by Citroën and Red Bull Racing - and as we reported just a month later, it wouldn't be the last. What we have here is the next.
Looking like an even more extreme version of the M235i Racing, the BMW Vision Gran Turismo concept builds on "the tradition of the successful BMW touring cars of the 1970s" in a heart-pumping, if unfortunately strictly virtual form. It's got more extreme aero than the aforementioned M235i Racing and a striking take on the M division's signature light blue, dark blue and red stripe over white livery.
Underneath the digital bonnet sits the same 3.0-liter inline six as the M235i, but pumping out a prodigious (if theoretical) 549 horsepower - far more than the 333 hp in the actual Racing version or the 320 hp in the roadgoing model. Of course BMW has given it an ideal 50:50 front-rear weight distribution and a curb weight of 2,600 lbs - nearly a thousand pounds less than the roadgoing M235i.

2015 BMW X3 arrives with tweaked styling, diesel option

Wed, 05 Feb 2014

The luxury crossover market has been a huge success for BMW, having sold over a million X3 models worldwide since the CUV first went on sale in 2003, not to mention all of the momentum its had with the larger X5. At the Chicago Auto Show, BMW is unveiling the refreshed 2015 X3, featuring an improved design, a new diesel engine option, and a rear-wheel drive variant.
The X3 is getting some handsome upgrades to the exterior. The twin, circular headlights now extend to touch the slightly widened, chrome kidney grille, to bring the styling in line with the 3 Series and 4 Series. (LED headlights are now optional, as well.) The front bumper gets reshaped brake cooling ducts, and the rear bumper gets a touch of additional metal trim at the bottom. BMW has also added standard LED turn signals in the side mirrors.
BMW has enhanced the interior with added chrome trim, high-gloss black trim around the center console, sliding covers for the cup holders and new interior upholstery designs. The X3 is also getting a major boost in optional technology - there's a new Parking Assistant, as well as an Active Driving Assistant with adaptive cruise control, Lane Departure Warning, Frontal Collision Warning, Pedestrian Warning, and City Collision Mitigation.

2015 BMW M3 Sedan

Tue, 20 May 2014

BMW's all-new M3 Sedan is dynamically nearly identical to its two-door M4 Coupe sibling: a stopwatch reveals that both are sub-four-second cars to 60 miles per hour, a racetrack proves that the mechanical twins are equally as adept on a road course and a full afternoon of driving on public roads demonstrates that each possesses talented everyday adaptability.
Yet after driving both BMW models back-to-back over two full days in Portugal, it's clear there are a few noticeable differences, both objective and subjective, that don't require instrument testing to reveal. All it takes is a few hours behind the wheel of both cars to conclude that one is slightly more agile, and the other a bit more twitchy. One has better outward visibility, while its counterpart is unquestionably more convenient.
It is the little things - subtleties attained through seat-of-the-pants observations - that eventually allow me to choose a favorite.
