Up for auction is a 2001 Audi S4 Avant Quattro 2.7L Turbo which is completely stock. It runs and handles well and is in fair condition with only light surface scratches here and there, overall the paint is in decent condition. There is a mark on the driver side door right on the door bumper guard, but this is the only big blemish on the car which almost goes unnoticed.  There is no rust anywhere. The back bumper is also not in the best condition with light scratches and knicks.  Recently the front bumper, headlights, hood, and radiator were replaced because of a run in with a deer.  Looks very slick from the front with everything brand new. The rims are in poor shape cosmetic wise with a few scratches on each, but perfectly sound and run well.

It has about 110,500 miles and has everything the S packages have to offer.  The only thing that is mechanically wrong with it right now is the cv boot/axle arms are starting to click because the boot broke apart.  My mechanic says it is a couple hundred dollar fix.  After that it could use an alinement and it's good to go.  As far as the engine goes it runs very well and the starting price for this auction is close to what it is worth alone.  One guy who knew a ton about these cars said it was one of the best engines Audi produced and he offered me a bit more than the $4999, but never got back to me after saying he needed to get rid of his M3 first.  I've had so many lowball offers for $3500 that $4999 is really a fair offer for this car. Inside everything is in good shape, the leather is in okay condition with a minor ring stain in the back seat.  The Bose speakers sound good how I have them set currently because the ones in the front are a little fuzzy.  Plus there is a Sirius radio that was installed before I purchased the car. It was originally a California registered car and I bought it from a dealership in Oregon last year. It's had the engine light on since I bought it with 81,000 which reads some sort of clutch code saying the torque converter is stuck on/off or malfunctioning. It's ran good the entire time I've had it plus passes inspection because it's a transmission code. Seem's like the person before me, which was also the only other owner, also took care of it. The only thing I've had to replace was a fuel injector (ended up being 18 bucks used on ebay), then the computer went that controls three of the cylinders which I also replaced and regular oil changes. Audi's are good for over 200,000 miles easily with the right maintenance.  I've been driving this car on highways in and out of Pittsburgh, in town and all around as of today and since I've been trying to sell it and will continue to if it does not sell.  This is not a lemon and is very much a good running car that needs minor care.  Buyers in Pennsylvania will get the car with an up to date emissions and inspection that is good until 5/2014.  Would even drive it to buyers in PA but ALL others must pick up and or arrange for the car to be picked up themselves.  No returns on this vehicle and I have described it as well as I possibly could.  Contact me with any questions and or to arrange to see and drive the car.  Message me phone numbers to contact you to talk more about the car.  Most photos were too big to upload so I'll have to upload more in a day or so.  Thanks for looking.

Volkswagen may soon have remedy for more cheating diesels

Tue, May 10 2016

Nearly a half-million motorists who own Volkswagens equipped with 2.0-liter engines have known for a few weeks the company might wind up buying back their vehicles as part of a settlement surrounding the company's emissions cheating. But about 85,000 drivers who own similarly afflicted diesels with 3.0-liter engines have been stuck without a remedy. They may not be waiting much longer. Bloomberg reports that Volkswagen will soon propose a fix for vehicles, including those from Audi and Porsche, equipped with 3.0-liter engines that will include new software and a new catalytic converter for the vehicles. Discussions with federal regulators are ongoing, according to the news outlet. "We are cooperating with the regulatory agencies and working with them on an approved solution," says Audi spokesperson Mark Clothier. "Beyond that, we cannot comment on ongoing investigations." Regulators have alleged that the company's 3.0-liter engines contain "defeat devices," illegal software that allows a vehicle to detect when it's undergoing an emissions test and turn off pollution control during real-world driving. The defeat device allows these vehicles to increase emissions of nitrogen oxide up to nine times the Environmental Protection Agency's allowable threshold. Affected 3.0-liter vehicles include the 2014 Volkswagen Toureg, 2015 Porsche Cayenne and the 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L and Q5. Volkswagen is slated to finalize its plans for buying back the afflicted 2.0-liter cars and potentially offer those motorists "substantial compensation" for their troubles by June 21, and it's possible that a formal announcement on the 3.0-liter vehicles would come at the same time. The mood at this year’s Paris Motor Show: Quiet

Tue, Oct 2 2018

The Paris Motor Show, held every other year in the early fall, typically kicks off the annual cavalcade of automotive conclaves, one that traverses the globe between autumn and spring, introducing projective, conceptual and production-ready vehicle models to the international automotive press, automotive aficionados and a public hungry for news of our increasingly futuristic mobility enterprise. But this year, at the press preview days for the show, the grounds of the Porte de Versailles convention center felt a bit more sparsely populated than usual. This was not simply a subjective sensation, or one influenced by the center's atypically dispersed assemblage of seven discrete buildings, which tends to spread out the cars and the crowds. There were not only fewer new vehicles being premiered in Paris this year, there were fewer manufacturers there to display them. Major mainstream European OEM stalwarts such as Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Nissan and Volkswagen chose to sit out Paris this year, as did boutique manufacturers like Bentley, Aston Martin and Lamborghini. This is not simply based in some antipathy on the part of the German, British and Italian manufacturers toward the French market — though for a variety of historical and societal reasons that market may be more dominated by vehicles produced domestically than others. Rather, it is part of a larger trend in the industry. Last year, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would not be participating in the flagship North American International Auto Show in 2019 — and that it might not return. Other brands including Jaguar/Land Rover, Audi, Porsche, Mazda and nearly every exotic carmaker have also departed the Detroit show. Some of these brands will still appear in the city in which the show is taking place, and host an event offsite, to capitalize on the presence of a large number of reporters in attendance. And even brands that do have a presence at the show have shifted their vehicle introductions to the days before the official press opening in an attempt to stand out from the crowd. In many ways, this makes sense. With an expanding number of automakers, with diversification and niche-ification of models and with wholesale shifts that necessitate the introduction of EV or autonomous sub-brands, there is a growing sense that, with everyone shouting at the same time, no one can be heard.

Audi celebrates 25 years of TDI

Fri, Jul 18 2014

Nope, the diesel engine never really did go out of style for Audi. Now, the German automaker has released a video reminding the world of its persistence with the oil-burners and is commemorating the Silver Anniversary of Audi's first commitment to turbodiesels in 1989. And, yes, there are some road racers shown in the clip, so some of those bad boys actually move pretty well. Audi engineers on camera admitted to some of the early TDI engines being "slow" but still valuable for their torque and, obviously, their fuel economy relative to gas-powered engines. A bunch of tinkering later, though, and Audi says its diesels can be a legitimate "part of a performance car" and has even overcome the issue of noisiness that's often associated with diesels. The automaker made some news in these parts a few years back when its Audi A3 TDI won the 2010 Green Car of the Year at the annual LA Auto Show in late 2009, and the model even succeeded a fellow diesel (the Volkswagen Jetta TDI) to boot. Granted, diesel sales aren't nearly as popular in the US as they are in Europe. Still, Audi last year boosted its diesel sales in the US by 40 percent to 10,076, which was about a tenth of what sister company Volkswagen sold in diesels last year in the States. And things have looked even rosier this year for Audi's TDI sales. Through June, Audi diesel sales have almost quadrupled from a year earlier to more than 8,100 units. Check out the 150-second video on Audi's 25-years of TDI production below.
