Audi's next S7 spotted sporting Prologue-inspired nose
Wed, Sep 21 2016Our spy photographers caught the next-generation S7 testing at the Nurburgring, and this newest version, while still retaining the S7's hatchback profile, updates it with design cues from the Prologue concept. The front is the most distinctly updated part of the car, and pulls the most from the concept. The grille has been widened and given more defined corners that exaggerate the hexagonal shape. The headlights have been slimmed down and are more in line with the grille. These changes give the front of the new S7 a lower, wider look than its predecessor. Speaking of grilles, we also spot a heat exchanger tucked inside the grille opening on the left corner. We're not sure if this is an intercooler, an additional radiator or perhaps an oil cooler, but clearly something needed a bit more airflow. We don't really have any indications of what powertrain the new version will have, but it will probably have a higher output than the current 450-horsepower S7. Moving around to the back, the much-loved arching hatchback profile drops to a revised tail. The taillights, like the headlights, are more slender than they used to be, and they also appear to have been stretched closer to the center of the rear fascia. The base of the hatchback opening appears to have been widened as well. This doesn't have much of an effect on style, but it should make it easier to load cargo into the S7 and its stablemates. As for when we'll see this new hatch revealed, we're not sure. But this prototype looks close to production-ready, so we could see a debut soon, perhaps sometime next year. 2015 Audi Q3 headed for Detroit before hitting US showrooms this fall
Thu, 09 Jan 2014The market for small premium crossover vehicles continues to grow in popularity here in the US, and Audi is finally ready to get in on the action. Going up against competitors like the BMW X1, Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and soon-to-arrive Mercedes GLA-Class, Audi will unveil a US-spec version of the 2015 Q3 at the Detroit Auto Show next week. And in what we can only assume is an amusing coincidence, the Q3 will go on sale during Q3 of this year.
As we reported back in October, it appears that our Q3 will boast a slightly taller ride height than its European counterpart, but Audi isn't releasing too much information about the crossover just yet. What we know for sure is that it will be powered by Audi's well-liked 2.0-liter turbocharged TFSI inline-four producing 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive will come standard, while Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system will be optional.
Visually, the 2015 Q3 shown here has a different front fascia design than its European counterpart, but it's not immediately clear if this is exclusive to the US model or if it will be a new element for Q3 in all markets. We don't expect pricing to be announced until closer to its on-sale date, but the Q3 will definitely be stuffed with content, even in base form. Audi has already confirmed such niceties as a panoramic moonroof, Xenon headlights and heated leather seats. Delivering a good amount of practicality for its size, the Q3 will provide a maximum cargo capacity of up to 48.2 cubic feet and 16.2 cu-ft with the rear seats in place.
Audi A7 getting nip and tuck
Tue, 21 Jan 2014It's been less than two years since the Audi A7 first went on sale in the US, but European buyers have been able to enjoy the sleek and stylish hatchback for twice as long. As such, Audi is preparing to give its A7 a mild refresh with tweaked exterior styling, but we're also expecting some of the features found in the all-new 2015 Audi A8 to possibly trickle down to the A7.
From what we can tell in these spy shots, the A7 is getting a minor facelift that includes a restyled front fascia and new headlights, which will likely boast Audi's new Matrix LED system. At the rear of the car, similar changes have been made with a fascia that now gets integrated outlets and different taillights that have a Lamborghini-like display.
Not apparent in these images - but still a good bet for production - we'd expect to see the new A7 get some of Audi's updated engines or new driver assist technologies. No definite word as to when we'll be seeing the refreshed A7 in person, but considering how close to production ready as this car seems to be, our bet is on the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
