Buying a house so my R8 needs to go ASAP! After owning an Elise, and a Gallardo I opted for the R8 V8 for my next supercar. I couldn't be a happier owner! Compared to the Lamborghini and Ferrari the R8 V8 is affordable and comfortable as a daily driver. The magnetic suspension provides for a very smooth ride over rough pavement, and stiff suspension when you hit the canyons. The original exhaust was fairly quiet and I was looking for something with more of a growl so I upgraded to the GMG WC-R8 GT Exhaust ($6,600 installed) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQI94ZJxwuQ&feature=share&list=UUWrdZtbw7PP16Vt1YHZk9rg The exhaust completely changed the attitude of the car and is sure to make you smile the entire drive. The R-Tronic transmission shifts firm with no clutch issues, tires have 85% tread remaining, engine is a reliable beast with around 440hp. I've driven it from California to Colorado a few times and have nothing but great things to say about owning it. This is a supercar you can drive to the grocery store (I did) and then out to a nice dinner. R8 is fully optioned with an original sticker of $143,950 Options Phantom black pearl effect $650 Enhanced leather package $5,500 Carbon interior trim $2,500 Carbon sigma sideblades $2,300 Premium package $2,100 Audi navigation system plus $2,000 Bang & olufsen sound system $1,800 19" Polished alloy wheels $500 Drive with confidence, I'll include my 5 year 70k mile engine drivetrain warranty I purchased with the car ($3,000) Service Oil

2016 Audi R18 whooshes around Sebring to test for WEC
Fri, Dec 11 2015The 2016 Audi R18 is a radically different endurance racer than the model it replaces. The designers drape the chassis in an angular body rather than the previous curves, and the engineers added lithium-ion batteries for energy storage. Now, we get to see these big changes in motion thanks to a video of the new car testing at Sebring. Like previous iterations of Audi's diesel-fueled racers, the latest R18 is quiet around the track. It seems to sneak up on corners with just a whoosh and a whir from the powertrain. The updated design also looks a lot better in motion than in static photos. Audi had a rough time in the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship after losing to rival Porsche both at Le Mans during the summer and in the manufacturers' standings at the end of the year. Recharge Wrap-up: Tesla seeks Gigafactory architect, Uber hails carpools
Thu, Aug 7 2014Tesla is looking for an architect to help design its proposed Gigafactory battery manufacturing facility. According to the Palo Alto-based job listing, which is titled "Architect - Gigafactory," the applicant must have, among other qualifications, over five years of experience with "high-tech infrastructure and operational facilities (semiconductor, solar, battery, waste water treatment plants, etc.)." The job also includes being away from home quite a bit, as it the listing states, "This full time role requires the flexibility of traveling when needed (up to 70 percent) and doing whatever it takes to achieve project objectives." Think you've got what it takes? See the listing for yourself, here, or read more at Silicon Valley Business Journal. Tesla has appointed Robyn Denholm of Juniper Networks to its board of directors. Denholm is Executive Vice President, Chief Financial and Operations Officer at Juniper Networks. Denholm replaces Brad Buss as chair of Tesla's Audit Committee and a member of the company's Compensation and Nominating and Corporate Governance committees. Buss will remain a member of Tesla's board as he joins SolarCity as CFO. Denholm is Tesla's first female director. Read more at Bloomberg, or in the press release below. Uber, the company behind the now famous ride-hailing app, is introducing its carpooling service, UberPool. The service matches drivers with (hopefully multiple) passengers going to similar destinations, with users paying just a fraction of the cost of a normal taxi, or even an Uber ride. If a rider can't get matched with a driver, they can enjoy a discounted Uber ride. As the company points out in its blog, "At these price points, Uber really is cost-competitive with owning a car, which is a game-changer for consumers." UberPool is currently running a private beta program, which it plans to expand on August 15. Read more in-depth about the UberPool at Forbes, or learn more at Uber's blog. For a few reasons why this new expansion might run afoul of archaic laws (put there to keep entrenched interests in play), check out Engadget. Plug-in hybrids are encouraging an evolution of transmission technology. Companies like Schaeffler and ZF Friedrichshafen are adapting their transmissions to include electric motors within them for use in plug-in hybrids. For example, the electric motor in ZF's eight-speed powers the transmission when the internal combustion engine is shut off.
Daily Driver: 2015 Audi S7
Thu, Apr 23 2015Daily Driver videos are micro-reviews of vehicles in the Autoblog press fleet, featuring impressions from the staffers that drive them every day. Today's Daily Driver features the 2015 Audi S7, reviewed by Seyth Miersma. You can watch the video above or read a transcript below. Watch more Autoblog videos at /videos. VIDEO TRANSCRIPT [00:00:00] Hi, all. This is Seyth with Autoblog. I'm here driving the 2015 Audi S7. I'm caught in a kind of annoying, normal, end-of-the-work-day suburban traffic right now, but even that helps to illustrate the point that I'm trying to make about the S7, is that it really is one of the best all-around grand touring cars that you can buy. A really, really good grand tourer has to do three things. [00:00:30] One, it has to look amazing. It has to feel really special inside and out. The second part is that it's got to be a great long-range cruiser. It needs to be powerful on the highway, be able to be very comfortable and quiet if you're taking it long distances, kind of like your typically Autobahn car. Three, and I think this is really difficult with the second one that I mentioned, I think that grand tourers have to be really great at driving like sports cars. [00:01:00] You're going along and you're touring on the highway and you know that a really great road is coming up. The car should be able to get off on that road and handle like something much lighter and still have that great cruising character. That's one of the reasons why I've always liked the entire Audi A7 line, but especially this S7 because the A7 itself in all of its guises is really a pretty great cruiser and a really practical all-around car with the space in the hatch [00:01:30] and reasonable room in the back seats. The S7 with the turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 making 420 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque really amps up the sportiness. Now don't get me wrong, the S7 is far from a sports car. It's not very light. It's got a long wheelbase. It is nimble, especially with Quattro, but it doesn't feel especially nimble. It doesn't want to change directions super quickly. It splits the difference between the two. That being said, [00:02:00] when you get up to some of your favorite roads, it doesn't disappointment you either because of all the power and grip and some pretty decent sporting character available. Of course one thing that you do lack in a big GT like this S7 vs.
