Few minor paint imperfections (only in the clear coat) professionally touched up with color coded paint. Right rear lamp was accidentally chipped at delivery (see picture). The dealership offered to change both right/left rear lamps but I chose to keep the spare new set (included in this sale) since the chip is hardly noticeable. The 17" wheels pictured on the car have few scuffs and will pass them onto a dear friend, so the car will come with Brand New Audi 18" Wheels (see last picture) with Bridgestone Potenza Run Flat Tires from my 2001 Audi S8 and a Brand New Set of 4 Continental ContiWinter Contact 245/45R18 Tires (all together $1600+ value!!!). You will not find a nicer and better kept 2001 Audi A6 V8!!! The KBB Private Party Value is $15,200 and Trade-In Value is $13,000, not to mention the condition and mileage of this car and the brand new wheels and tires !!! The car has just over 26,000 Miles (fresh oil/filter change today!) but I drive it regularly thus I listed the mileage at 27,000. As soon as a winning bid is placed the car will no longer be driven and will be garaged kept until pick up. Transportation costs are the sole responsibility of the buyer. Car is sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied! Please ask any questions you may have prior to placing a bid. Reasonable offers considered. Thank you and have a nice day!

Researchers halfway to cutting carbon fiber costs by 90%
Wed, 15 Oct 2014Carbon fiber has been utilized for decades to build racecars, as a means to cut weight while maintaining strength. But until recently, the space-age material has been largely absent from the street on anything but supercars because of the expense to use it. Recently, BMW signaled a major shift in that trend when it starting using carbon fiber reinforced plastic panels on the i3 and i8. This relatively small scale start might be just the beginning; the German company believes that a breakthrough to inexpensively manufacture the lightweight stuff is just on the horizon.
MAI Carbon Cluster Management GmbH counts BMW, Audi, Airbus, the German government and many other organizations as supporters, and it's researching how to make carbon fiber cheaper to produce, according to Automotive News Europe. The company thinks it can reduce costs by 90 percent in the near future. "We've certainly reached a halfway point on our cost-cutting target for suitable carbon-fiber parts," said project head Klaus Drechsler to Automotive News Europe.
Unfortunately, it isn't entirely clear just what MAI Carbon is doing to make such a huge leap possible. However, a recent post on the company's website talks about a new form a carbon fiber using a thermoplastic matrix that could be cured in less than three minutes. That's compared to about 90 minutes in the traditional process with an autoclave.
Audi TT Ultra Quattro Concept throws lightness at the problem
Thu, 25 Apr 2013Audi is celebrating the 2013 Wörthersee Tour with a special concept version of the company's TT. The Audi TT Ultra Quattro concept tips the scales at just 2,449 pounds thanks to some extensive engineering work. The company pulled nearly 95 lbs from the car's body structure and used carbon-fiber reinforced plastics for many of its detachable body components. As a result, the concept weighs in at a full 220 pounds lighter than its production counterpart. Throw in a wicked turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 310 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, and you get a machine with the power to weight ratio in the supercar realm. 0-60 comes up in 4.2 seconds and top speed is listed at 173 mph.
Inside, the TT Ultra Quattro features plenty of carbon fiber trim, and designers also fitted the seats from the R8 GT to save a little weight. The buckets use CFRP for the seat frames, saving nearly 50 pounds in the process. In a world where automakers seem blind to the negative effect of throwing more heft at a vehicle, we're in love with the Ultra Quattro concept. Check out the full press release below for more information.
2014 Audi Q5 TDI
Wed, 04 Dec 2013I've struggled with diesel technology. It's not that I have a problem with it or dislike it, but rather that I don't particularly understand what stops its wider-spread adoption. Sure, memories of rust-prone, smoky, sluggish and uneconomical Oldsmobile diesels aren't exactly easy to erase from the collective memory of the North American motoring public, but I'd think that a few years into the latest crop of clean diesels, there'd be wider adoption - or at least consumer consideration - by now.
Part of the issue is the still limited number of segments that diesels are available in. The Volkswagen Golf/Jetta TDI is finally getting a challenger in the form of the Chevrolet Cruze Diesel, and the BMW 328d is bringing something new to the entry-level sports sedan, but there are still a huge group of segments where diesel-power has no representation.
The small, luxury crossover realm is not one of those. It has the Mercedes-Benz GLK250 Bluetec, a stylish crossover with a silky-smooth 2.1-liter, turbodiesel four-cylinder that can return the kind of fuel economy that makes people take notice. And while the GLK250 is quite good, economy will only spread the diesel's appeal so far. People need to experience the seat-flattening torque that these mills can produce, and for that, we most humbly recommend the new 2014 Audi Q5 TDI.
