This is a fantastic car. All service has been completed as recommended either at the Audi dealership or at an Audi specialist shop (I have service records as well). It just had its 90,000 mile service (ahead of schedule), so everything has been checked out and the oil is brand-new. The ABS unit (can be an issue on these cars) has already been replaced with a brand new (not refurbished) unit.

This iteration of the A6 (C6) was the last time Audi offered its legendary 4.2 V8 in its A6 models (now it only comes in the high-end A8L). That also means that this car comes with the beefier transmission than all of the smaller-engined A6 versions.

The ride quality and comfort of the A6 is as good or better than anything I've ever been in, and it is a pleasure to drive. It definitely eats up the miles with no problem. 89,xxx miles is pretty low for this car, so as long as you keep it full of gas and oil as recommended it should do well over 200,000.

If you're interested, please feel free to contact me with questions or let me know if you'd be interested in coming out to take a look. I live in Walnut Creek but I work in Berkeley, so I could meet you near either location.

I will be faster to answer emails, but you can also try my cell (734-355-7131) and I will do my best to get back to you.

Thanks!

Ryan

Audi Q7 honored with IIHS Top Safety Pick + rating

Fri, Feb 26 2016

Audi's new, second-generation Q7 crossover is officially one of the safest vehicles on the road, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The non-profit has named the revamped CUV to its Top Safety Pick + list, making it the fourth Audi branded product to be so honored. As we've said before, the TSP + rating is no laughing matter for automakers. Getting it requires not just top-of-the-line crash-test ratings, but at least an "Advanced" rating for its crash-prevention systems. Audi went a step above, though, scoring a "Superior" for its safety systems, alongside an entire array of "Good" ratings on the physical crash testing. This is something of a unique case, though. See, IIHS doesn't typically test vehicles as large as the Q7. The only reason it did was because Audi "nominated" it and even paid for the test vehicles. The last time a "Large SUV" – which is what the Q7 is categorized as – even made a IIHS list was 2013, when General Motors Lambda-based CUVs and the Volkswagen Touareg were honored. Of course, the reason you all probably click on these stories is to see the crashing. Check out how the Q7 fared in the small-overlap test at the top of the page – there's gratuitous slow-mo, so enjoy. Related Video:

2016 Technology of the Year Finalist: Audi Virtual Cockpit

Tue, Jan 5 2016

The heart of most infotainment systems is a touchscreen in the center console. In many systems, some information can be sent to the gauge cluster in slightly redacted form – stripped-down navigation commands, basic audio info, that sort of thing. To get the full story, the driver has to take their eyes off the road and look to the middle of the dashboard. Audi's Virtual Cockpit, in essence, ditches the center screen and places all that information in the gauge cluster. The high-resolution TFT screen is just over a foot wide, and it has two main modes: Classic view, and Infotainment view. Classic looks like many other traditional TFT gauge clusters, with large traditional gauges and the ability to display a decent amount of information in the space in-between. Go into Infotainment view, and the gauges shrink and head to the lower corners, freeing up a much larger amount of real estate for, say, the nav system map. The gauges also get out of the way when utilizing the menu, entering a destination, or that sort of thing. The four main modes are standard stuff. Virtual Cockpit will show you navigation, media, phone, and trip computer information in large or small formats. You interact with Virtual Cockpit with a familiar MMI wheel-type controller in the center console, like in many other Audis, or with buttons and a scroll/push wheel on the left side of the steering wheel. Climate control functions are handed by physical controls cleverly integrated in the center three vents. It takes a lot of processing power to make all this work as well as it does, and that's handled by NVIDIA's Tegra 3 processor – a quad-core processor usually seen in tablets and smartphones. The system is quick and responsive, and we found the high-resolution screen to be impressively sharp. If there's a downside, it's that Virtual Cockpit doesn't leave an opportunity for a passenger to step in and, say, enter a destination or change the radio station without altering what's right in front of the driver. It could be inconvenient at best, distracting at worst, to have the nav system directions you're trying to follow suddenly be superseded by the audio menu. Adding a small secondary screen for the passenger could be one fix; a connected companion smartphone app another. In the meantime, it's an impressive implementation of a clever idea.
