It's time to sell my 2000 Audi A4 1.8 with front wheel drive and a manual transmission. I purchased this car in September 2004 from the original owner and it has served me well. I reached 200,000 in June of 2014 which was the goal all along. In the past year, I've taken this Audi on trips of 600 miles, 1,200 miles, and 3,000 miles and it never left me stranded. However, in the past 3 months, I have only driven it 200 miles.  Despite the fact that I believe this car to be reliable, I am selling it completely 'as is' with absolutely no promise of future reliability. The car is nearly 15 years old with more than 200k miles. I have never replaced the clutch and believe it to be original. That is an impressive feat. You will be buying a used car with many areas of need. I live in MD and this car would definitely not pass MD inspection. It needs many new parts and many things such as caliper, rotor, brake and fuel injection work and the 'check engine', 'brake', antilock brake' and 'airbag' lights are all illuminated. They keep me company at night! The AC has not worked since I bought it ten years ago. The key fobs are no longer operational. I could continue to discuss the needs of this Audi, but I will not because I would definitely miss something.

The news is not all bad. At 190K, I had a new timing belt and water pump installed as I didn't want it to snap when I was within reach of 200K. When the car reached 200K, I had the oil changed. . The truth is that I love this car, but other cars and the state of MD is making it difficult for me to keep it. My MD tags run out on 9/30 so it's a good time to say goodbye. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Audi design getting big overhaul?

Tue, 16 Apr 2013

Car and Driver has an update on the design shuffle in Ingolstadt that will ultimately bring more differentiation to Audi products. Last November, Audi design chief Wolfgang Egger spoke of the need to do "something new without breaking from tradition" in Audi design, but talk at the time centered on how the Crosslane Coupe Concept would influence the new looks of the brand's Q cars. The most recent moves appear focused on passenger cars, with designers from Volkswagen Group kin like Bentley and Seat moving to Audi, and outsiders from Alfa Romeo moving in.
While Egger decreed the end of "scalable design" to CD, last November's report said there would be more technology and "greater visual cohesion" between interior and exterior design. We still have no idea what all this means nor when we'll see visible changes in production, but at least we know there's something being done behind the scenes.

Next Audi R8 to be up to 130 pounds lighter

Tue, 26 Nov 2013

"Simplify and add lightness," as Lotus founder Colin Chapman said. In a world where even supercars are subject to environmental, efficiency and emissions standards, lighter vehicles are being looked on as a sort of panacea - make it lighter, and it's automatically faster, more agile, easier to brake and better on gas.
Knowing this, it comes as no shock that Audi is looking at ways to lighten up its next-generation R8, with the brand's head of technical development Ulrich Hackenberg targeting a 110- to 130-pound diet for the mid-engine rocket. This supports previous reports regarding the focus for the next R8. Motor Trend reports that aluminum and carbon fiber feature heavily in plans for the next R8, which should go a long way toward slimming down even the lightest of R8s, the 3,678-pound V10 Plus model.
There's more over at Motor Trend, including the buff book's attempts to get Hackenberg to discuss powertrain options for the next R8.

Audi Nanuk Concept likes Parcour, puts four rings on it

Tue, 10 Sep 2013

Without a doubt, one of the coolest (and weirdest) debuts from this year's Geneva Motor Show had to be the Italdesign Giugiaro Parcour concept. And ever since the off-road performance coupe with Lamborgini guts made its debut, we've sort of been smitten with it. We figured this neat two-door would be a one-and-done show car, but to our delight, the folks at Italdesign worked with Audi to create this, the Nanuk Quattro Concept, which makes its debut here at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Unlike the original Parcour, the Nanuk ditches the high-revving Lambo-sourced 5.2-liter V10 in favor of a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter diesel V10. That's a beast of an engine, and with 544 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque on hand, it means the 4,189-pound, all-wheel-drive Audi can scoot to 62 miles per hour in under four seconds. Of course, being a diesel, it's surprisingly efficient, and we're told the Nanuk can achieve up to 30 miles per gallon.
As much as we sort of hate the term, the Audi Nanuk is a proper coupe-crossover if we've ever seen one, and utilizes the automaker's next-generation adaptive air suspension (the Parcour had a different pushrod arrangement) that offers a range of almost three inches of height adjustment. There's also an integral steering setup, meaning the rear wheels can turn up to nine degrees in the opposite direction of the front rollers, improving maneuverability.
