'Sylvan Rock' by Aston Martin could be your home for $7.7 million
Fri, Oct 2 2020Aston Martin is known for some of the most gorgeous automotive designs ever produced, but occasionally it lends that expertise to other items. Sylvan Rock, a 55-acre luxury residential resort to be constructed in New York's Hudson Valley in partnership with New York's S3 Architecture, is one such venture. It's also Aston Martin's first collaboration in the design of a private home. Sylvan Rock will be built about 80 miles north of New York City, near Rhinebeck. Calling it a house is underselling it; even the property's own website refers to it as a "compound." It comprises a nearly 6,000-square foot primary residence, three guest "pods," a pool, pool house, tree house and garden. Oh, and yes, there's a three-car garage, but that's not what really sells Sylvan Rock as a driver's home. "Driving down a bucolic country road, enjoying the curves in the road, you arrive at an unassuming gatehouse entrance to the private driveway. Along the driveway, the property unfolds onto a secluded luxury retreat," the promotional material enthuses. Sounds like a nice little spot, doesn't it? That's straight from the description on the property web site, which is linked above. It has detailed plans and a much larger gallery of rendered images. Here are the quick specs: Residence | 5,983 SF 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 half baths 3 car garage Pool and deck Pool House | 873 SF Three Guest House “Pods” | 1,574 SF Treehouse - Architect designed Food Garden and Trails Total finished spaces in compound: 8,430 SF If you can part with a cool $7.7 million, it could be your new home away from your 17 other homes, provided you can wait until 2022, when construction will be finished. Oh, and if you have another couple hundred grand burning a hole in your pocket, Aston Martin will even throw in a new DBX in matching Onyx Black. Honestly, if you can flash the cash, I'm sure they'll sell you as many cars as you want — or, you know, shares. They'll even throw in a picnic basket for free. Yes, that last part is real. Featured Gallery Aston Martin Sylvan Rock View 9 Photos Auto News Design/Style Marketing/Advertising Aston Martin Luxury
Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo is road-tripping across America
Fri, Aug 3 2018After last weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, Formula 1 entered its annual summer break. It gives teams some (mandatory) time off before the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps. In the meantime, Red Bull Racing has given us a short video showing Daniel Ricciardo racing across America in a Red Bull RB7 (a car he never actually raced). The first video was released yesterday, and it looks like more are on the way. In the video, Ricciardo drives his Red Bull in three of the most scenic locations in the U.S. He starts in San Francisco, driving across the Golden Gate bridge and through the city core before performing a pit stop on the unbelievably empty Bay Bridge that connects San Francisco to Oakland. F1 cars are designed for pristine strips of asphalt, and the car bounces and bobs like an overstuffed beachball on the city's pavement. After California, Ricciardo runs through the middle of Monument Valley, Utah, the location of so many of those classic John Ford-directed westerns. After that, the car shows up on the Las Vegas Strip, with Ricciardo packing up his steering wheel and heading to the casino. The video ends with "to be continued," so stay tuned for more, and enjoy the sounds of the old 2.4-liter Renault V8 (even if it is badged with Aston Martin and Tag Heuer logos). Aston Martin to replace Rapide with DBX crossover, Lagonda sedan
Thu, Apr 9 2015Aston Martin is known best for two-door coupes and convertibles, but it has a history with other body styles. And it looks like Aston's future includes more versatile door configurations. Speaking with Car and Driver at the New York Auto Show, the company's new CEO Andy Palmer reveals a two-pronged plan to replace the four-door Rapide. One will be a new Lagonda sedan; the other a production version of the DBX crossover concept. Detailing the overall strategy for the British automaker, Palmer said, "First is replacing the entire sports car range; second is the DBX, and that appeals to a different set of audiences; and the third is the sports sedan, which will carry [the Lagonda] badge." The Lagonda, Palmer revealed, will not be the Taraf we've already seen. Although sales of that model are expanding beyond its initial Middle Eastern market, it won't be coming to North America due to US crash-testing requirements and the vehicle's short production run. The next Lagonda sedan, however, is more likely to reach these shores. The DBX meanwhile is slated to switch to four doors from the coupe-like profile of the concept, but keep similar overall dimensions and that sleek roofline – albeit modified to make it more accommodating. The crossover will also replace the concept's electric powertrain with a more conventional engine. And while we wouldn't rule out the name carrying over, we wouldn't be surprised to see the DBX adopt another handle on the road to production.
