This is one of 2 Alfas i own. I currently have too many cars and need to sell 1. Also have a 92 Alfa, 73 Grandville, 87 Porsche. The Grandville is also for sale.
If you've never driven a stick shift Alfa, you must! The shift knob is on the dash next to the steering wheel like a race car. Just watch "The Graduate" I bought car a little over 1 year ago and gone about 1,500 miles - including on the highway to wisconsin a few times over 65 MPH. I am told i was the third owner of this car. the guy i bought it from owned it over 10 years and bought it from his boss, who bought it new. I have done much to clean up the car and add odds and ends. I have a new exhaust system which comes with car. i never had the chance to put it on. I also bought the entire engine gasket set and never put it on. I recently had the car into a mechanic that works on all my Euro Classics just to see what I had. He found the car to be in solid shape for its age and miles. He did reference a small leak in the slave cylinder for the clutch ($200 fix) and a squeaky caliper in the rear left wheel (couple hundred dollars). He mentioned neither one was major. I would likely fix both this winter if i keep the car. The Paint is OK for a 79. the shine is off the hood and there's a couple imperfections. I did my best to get pictures of those. One of the fenders has a green scratch on it and there are 2 or 3 small dents around the body. the hood is faded from the heat and has almost no clear coat left. The trunk and rear still shine nicely. The silver paint is actually easy to match, there is a chrysler silver that matches well. it would be an easy paint job on the hood. I'll likely do it this winter, if i keep the car. The carpet is original but faded. the floor mats are in nice shape. The front seats worn. bottoms are ripped. backs and headrest OK. rare Burgandy interior. Original Wooden Steering Wheel and Shift Knob are in excellent shape. I have a replacement black leather boot for the shift-knob. All the gauges work The previous owner put a CD Player in. it powers but i never got sound. likely a wiring issue. I did not want to mess with it, i enjoyed the sounds of the road anyways. Trunk is in OK shape. carpet nice. there was some rust in the spare tire pan. i sanded it down, primed and painted. there is 1 small hole but i cut out some of the worst rust there. I do have the spare and the jack. engine runs pretty well - i gave tune up. pretty clean overall under the hood. again, i have all new gaskets for it. would have put them in this winter, but if i can make room in the garage, i'll be happy too. shifts OK. sometimes 1st to 2nd can be a little scratchy but otherwise great. you do need to be sure to put the clutch all the way in but once you get used to it, it drives totally fine. if you do it right, you can still get it to chirp out of first and 2nd!! very solid for an old car, and again, ive had this over 65 and done some real driving - so there shouldnt be any major issues. original wheels are in excellent shape. they are the proper Alfa wheels, not the garbage you will find on the 80s and 90s versions. this car was garage kept its whole life. I bought it from a guy with a 3 car garage in River Forest. He drove it to work occasionally and on sundays. The car was not driven in winters. I did start it every 2 weeks or so in the winter - it fired right up every time! this was surprising because my porsche did not :( top in very nice shape. it is black. i do not believe the top is original - there's no way. has a back window. top goes up by hand and latches by hand. I have the original boot. it is burgandy and in awesome shape. it is missing 1 button so you have to take it off for highway driving. if you have a wife (i dont) maybe she can sew it back on ;) the rear bumper shows wear and has small cracks in the "elbow" area where it wraps the fenders. The door handles and resting spot for the hard top have pitting on chrome as is expected on a 35 year old car. This is a very fun car. if it doesnt sell, im going to continue to enjoy it this summer and do more work this winter. If it does sell, i hope it is to a happy home where it will be treated right and driven. If i keep the car, I will put in the new gaskets, put on the exhaust, get new carpet, have the seats redone, remove the dents, paint the hood, do the calipers and the slave cylinder. In that condition, the car is worth over $10,000 and it wouldn't take that much to get there. I have been as honest as possible about the car and i will not re-trade. I expect a $500 deposit via paypal within 24 hours of auction. The car is located in Chicago in one of my garages. i can show it to you almost any time. If you dont know how to drive stick, no, you cannot drive it. happy bidding! Actual mileage on car is 92,430. car had just over 91,000 miles when i bought it. this car turns heads. people often mistake it for an old ferrari or jaguar. you will do nothing but smile behind the wheel. 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia Review | Still the driver's choice
Tue, Dec 29 2020Nearly every luxury sport sedan similar in size to the 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia is a great driving car, but none can topple Alfa from its throne as the best. Its quintessential sport sedan combination of agile handling, superior driver communication and powerful engines is the best in the business. Unfortunately, the highs are high, and the lows are low when it comes to the Giulia. The interior is better now than it was at the beginning, but it’s still less than the Germans in both luxury and technology. A frustrating and laggy touchscreen infotainment system is hardly an improvement over the non-touch interface of before. A palatial back seat has never been a sport sedan trademark, but the Giulia's competitors nevertheless out do it in that regard too (should you care). And of course, thereÂ’s the question of long-term reliability. We hope that Alfa Romeo has worked out the GiuliaÂ’s reported issues over the years, but reliability is worth considering with the carÂ’s troubled history. Many of these flaws might be worth looking past if you want the ultimate driverÂ’s sport sedan, especially if youÂ’re thinking about the dynamite Quadrifoglio and its brilliant Ferrari-derived engine. What's new for 2021? After the heavy 2020 updates, not much changed for 2021. The trim options are streamlined to just four now: Sprint (new base trim name), Ti, Ti Sport and Quadrifoglio. AlfaÂ’s dual-pane sunroof is made standard on Ti, and the limited-slip differential is now standard on Ti Sport. A number of new colors are available: Ocra GT Junior, Rosso GTA, Rosso Villa d'Este and Verde Montreal. Nothing changes for the Quadrifoglio. What's the GiuliaÂ’s interior and in-car technology like? AlfaÂ’s upgrades for 2020 focused on improving the GiuliaÂ’s cabin, and itÂ’s much better for it. Materials on the steering wheel, dash and center console are more in touch with luxury expectations, and the control interfaces are sturdy, quality parts. The overall result still doesn't match most competitors, but it's no longer objectionable, and the materials generally feel nice to the touch. The design itself is attractive and minimalist. It lacks the Swedish flair of a Volvo S60 or the drama of some of the offerings available from Lexus and Mercedes, but Alfa was sure to pack in just enough Italian flair (red leather helps) to keep things interesting.
Sergio Marchionne wants Alfa Romeo back in F1
Mon, Feb 15 2016It's been decades since Alfa Romeo has competed in Formula One. But if Sergio Marchionne gets his way, it could make a comeback soon. Now we know what you might be thinking: Alfa Romeo and Ferrari are both part of the same Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group, so why would Marchionne want two brands competing against each other in such a costly racing series? Because technically speaking, Ferrari is no longer part of FCA, that's why. They share mostly the same owners and are run by the same person (Marchionne), but the Prancing Horse marque recently split off from its former parent company and floated its own shares on the stock market. That makes it a separate entity, and also means that FCA no longer has a direct link to F1. But its chief executive clearly thinks the investment is worthwhile. Marchionne has been known to state grandiose plans, but he's also been known to carry through on many of them. So the next question is, if the plan goes through, just how Alfa Romeo might participate in F1? Some automakers (like Mercedes) field their own teams, others (like Honda) compete as engine suppliers, and still others (like Infiniti) as branding partners. Alfa could go either route, but Marchionne told Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport that "Alfa Romeo is able to make itself a chassis, and it is able to make engines." Of course, that doesn't mean that it necessarily will. It could outsource a chassis from a constructor like Dallara, which is located near the same Varano circuit that Alfa uses regularly. It could also source an engine from its former sister company: Marchionne floated the possibility of starting a separate engine program in Maranello for Red Bull when it was hunting for a new engine partner, and could ostensibly do the same for Alfa Romeo. "In order to re-establish itself as a sport brand, Alfa Romeo can and must consider the possibility of return to race in Formula 1," said Marchionne. "How? Probably in a collaboration with Ferrari." Alfa Romeo first competed in F1 in the early 1950s, winning the world championship two years running in 1950 with Giuseppe Farina (scion of Pininfarina) and 1951 with Juan Manuel Fangio. It then dropped out, only to resurface as a full constructor team between 1979 and 1985, with limited results. It also supplied engines to an array of teams in the 1960s, '70s, and '80s.
Fiat Chrysler trademarks Kamal, likely for small Alfa CUV
Tue, May 10 2016We have Alfa Romeo news to share, and for once it's not about a product delay. Fiat Chrysler has trademarked the name Kamal and we think it will be used on one of two crossovers planned to follow the (delayed) Stelvio. Fiat Chrysler trademarked the name Kamal last month. Because trademark filings are intentionally vague, there is no specific brand attached to the application, only parent company FCA. The link to Alfa comes from a small CUV concept that used the name way back in 2003. If we had to wager, we'd say this one will be smaller than the midsize, Giulia-based Stelvio and could use a version of the same platform or whatever will underpin the brand's (eventual) small hatchback. It probably won't come in gold like the concept. We hope not, at least. Interestingly, there's no trademark for Stelvio in the US Patent and Trademark Office's database. That name was confirmed by Sergio Marchionne in February, but anyone familiar with recent Alfa news knows things change. And then they get pushed back and change again. About that waiting, though. Alfa's product plans have been made and amended, the gorgeous Giulia has been delayed, and now things seem to be on track. Maybe.
