This is one of 2 Alfas i own.  I currently have too many cars and need to sell 1.  Also have a 92 Alfa, 73 Grandville, 87 Porsche.  The Grandville is also for sale.

If you've never driven a stick shift Alfa, you must! The shift knob is on the dash next to the steering wheel like a race car.  Just watch "The Graduate"

I bought car a little over 1 year ago and gone about 1,500 miles - including on the highway to wisconsin a few times over 65 MPH.

I am told i was the third owner of this car.  the guy i bought it from owned it over 10 years and bought it from his boss, who bought it new.  I have done much to clean up the car and add odds and ends.   I have a new exhaust system which comes with car.  i never had the chance to put it on.  I also bought the entire engine gasket set and never put it on.

I recently had the car into a mechanic that works on all my Euro Classics just to see what I had.  He found the car to be in solid shape for its age and miles.  He did reference a small leak in the slave cylinder for the clutch ($200 fix) and a squeaky caliper in the rear left wheel (couple hundred dollars).  He mentioned neither one was major.  I would likely fix both this winter if i keep the car.

The Paint is OK for a 79.  the shine is off the hood and there's a couple imperfections.  I did my best to get pictures of those.  One of the fenders has a green scratch on it and there are 2 or 3 small dents around the body. the hood is faded from the heat and has almost no clear coat left.  The trunk and rear still shine nicely.   The silver paint is actually easy to match, there is a chrysler silver that matches well.  it would be an easy paint job on the hood.  I'll likely do it this winter, if i keep the car.

The carpet is original but faded.  the floor mats are in nice shape.

The front seats worn.  bottoms are ripped. backs and headrest OK.  rare Burgandy interior.

Original Wooden Steering Wheel and Shift Knob are in excellent shape.  I have a replacement black leather boot for the shift-knob.

All the gauges work

The previous owner put a CD Player in.  it powers but i never got sound.  likely a wiring issue.  I did not want to mess with it, i enjoyed the sounds of the road anyways.

Trunk is in OK shape.  carpet nice.  there was some rust in the spare tire pan.  i sanded it down, primed and painted.  there is 1 small hole but i cut out some of the worst rust there.  I do have the spare and the jack.

engine runs pretty well - i gave tune up.  pretty clean overall under the hood.  again, i have all new gaskets for it.  would have put them in this winter, but if i can make room in the garage, i'll be happy too.

shifts OK. sometimes 1st to 2nd can be a little scratchy but otherwise great.  you do need to be sure to put the clutch all the way in but once you get used to it, it drives totally fine.  if you do it right, you can still get it to chirp out of first and 2nd!!  very solid for an old car, and again, ive had this over 65 and done some real driving - so there shouldnt be any major issues.

original wheels are in excellent shape.  they are the proper Alfa wheels, not the garbage you will find on the 80s and 90s versions.

this car  was garage kept its whole life.  I bought it from a guy with a 3 car garage in River Forest.  He drove it to work occasionally and on sundays.  The car was not driven in winters.  I did start it every 2 weeks or so in the winter - it fired right up every time!   this was surprising because my porsche did not :(

top in very nice shape.  it is black.  i do not believe the top is original - there's no way.  has a back window.  top goes up by hand and latches by hand.  I have the original boot.  it is burgandy and in awesome shape.  it is missing 1 button so you have to take it off for highway driving.   if you have a wife (i dont) maybe she can sew it back on ;)

the rear bumper shows wear and has small cracks in the "elbow" area where it wraps the fenders.

The door handles and resting spot for the hard top have pitting on chrome as is expected on a 35 year old car.

This is a very fun car.  if it doesnt sell, im going to continue to enjoy it this summer and do more work this winter.  If it does sell, i hope it is to a happy home where it will be treated right and driven.   If i keep the car, I will put in the new gaskets, put on the exhaust, get new carpet, have the seats redone, remove the dents, paint the hood, do the calipers and the slave cylinder.   In that condition, the car is worth over $10,000 and it wouldn't take that much to get there.

I have been as honest as possible about the car and i will not re-trade.  I expect a $500 deposit via paypal within 24 hours of auction.   The car is located in Chicago in one of my garages.  i can show it to you almost any time.  If you dont know how to drive stick, no, you cannot drive it.   happy bidding!

Actual mileage on car is 92,430.    car had just over 91,000 miles when i bought it.

all gauges and lights work

car is incredibly good on gas.  easily 20+ MPG.

i have taken pictures of the convertible top, trunk and underneath.  i can email those if interested.

this car turns heads.  people often mistake it for an old ferrari or jaguar.  you will do nothing but smile behind the wheel.   Happy Bidding!

Alfa Romeo Tonale Edizione Bambini concept is a stylish way to parent

Sun, Apr 2 2023

Your grandparents' boots were made for walking, and they're still cool. Your parents' minvans were made for, well, you, and now that you're the car buyer, you've made it clear minivans are uncool. Crossovers and SUVs run family bus routes now, and they're simply not as handy for hauling the kiddie army as the playroom-on-wheels that is a minivan. Alfa Romeo has an idea about how to change that. The automaker's UK arm interviewed 2,000 parents to get insights about parent- and kid-friendly features. The results come together in a one-off called the Alfa Romeo Tonale Edizione Bambini — the Kid's Edition, as it were. The biggest gripe parents had was how hard it is to keep their vehicles clean. A spiffy leather organizer that Alfa Romeo should sell for every Tonale, not just the babyfied ones, hangs over both front seats. It's got shaped slots for a drink bottle, a bento box for snacks, and pens. It also protects the seat backs from the repeated kicks that children are known to apply during journeys. A small trash container sits on the floor behind the center console. And because parents today use a thing called a "reward chart," kids can keep track of their progress keeping the vehicle clean so mum and dad aren't embarrassed to take the boss for a ride. There are more cleaning supplies in the boots, these for the elders. They include a battery-powered vacuum charged by the Tonale, and a collapsible caddy with products like a boot cleaning brush, leather cleaner, tissues, and wet wipes.      Move vital parenting duties are aided by the retractable changing station in the cargo area and the baby monitor in the back seat. A survey by diaper brand Huggies found 86% of parents needed to change their child's diapers "on the move." The custom changing station can slide out from under the parcel shelf after the hatch is raised, and is upholstered in an easy to clean changing mat. The video monitor for kids in the back seat can be placed to watch over rearward- or forward-facing baby seats, the feed available in a smartphone app that guardians in the front row can check. The obligatory entertainment needs come courtesy of screens on the seatbacks, headphones hung from the seatback organizers, tablet pockets for up to three children, and a foldable toy caddy. For parents who consider "minivan" a four-letter word, this one-off Tonale is definitely a stylish solution to managing the warehouse of goods so many kids seem to travel with nowadays.

Fiat Centro Stile sells design sketches to support kids in Italy

Sun, Jun 21 2020

Fiat's Centro Stile design studio in Europe has kicked off a project called stART Again to support the global charity Save the Children. The studio put 136 high-resolution sketches of Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep, and Lancia vehicles for download online at just ˆ20 a pop — about $22. The proceeds from all sales will be donated to a charity founded in England 101 years ago "to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts." Save the Children will use the funds to provide supplies, teaching materials, and support for studies for more than 100,000 children in the most disadvantaged areas of Italy who have been additionally harmed by the coronavirus and its effects. There are a heap of knockout drawings available. The selection at the Alfa Romeo store ranges from a 1958 Alfetta 158 racer to the coming Giulia GTA, classics in between including the immortal GTV 6 and the left-field 75 1.8 Turbo TCC racer. The Fiat marketplace contains wares from Abarth, Fiat, and Fiat Professional, with a massive emphasis on the new 500, but the hardcore 1972 Abarth 124 Spyder and oddball 900E van get slots in there (the 900E looks like a Volkswagen Vanagon, but the 900E came first). The Jeep shop is all business and big tires, save for the 1942 Willys MB, but someone needs to take the 1956 Jeep Forward Control sketch off the page and into reality. And the Lancia store has more to offer than the Stratos and Delta Integrale, an ominous Aurelia B20 GT and a Fulvia GT part of the five-model lineup. For some reason, Maserati got left out of the graphic bonanza, as did Ram, Dodge, and Chrysler, which is a shame. That still leaves 136 good reasons to click through and help the kiddies. Alfa Romeo to go all-electric by 2027

Mon, Aug 9 2021

On an earnings report last week, Alfa Romeo parent company Stellantis tacked on some electrification plans for its 14 brands. One surprising piece of information: Alfa Romeo would be the first of them to go fully electric, and it'll happen by 2027. We've known that Alfa Romeo would eventually go electric, but it's a bit surprising to hear that Stellantis wants it to happen on such a short timeline, and that it would spearhead its EV push. Alfa Romeo has been one of the most protected brands in the Stellantis empire, and one of the most traditional as well. The often quirky but nevertheless beloved brand has long been a favorite among car enthusiasts. In fact, brand heritage is so important that back in 2014 the company opted to develop its own Spider rather than borrow a platform from the ND Miata (That car went to become the Fiat 124 instead). Stellantis didn't confirm what the first Alfa EV would be, but it could arrive in the form of a subcompact crossover about the size of a BMW X1. It could also share the platform with other Stellantis brands like Peugeot, Fiat and Jeep and is slated to debut in 2022 or 2023. In the meantime, Alfa Romeo is working on the Tonale plug-in hybrid electric, which was recently delayed. Reportedly, Stellantis head Jean-Philippe Imparato was not satisfied with the hybrid-electric system. The PHEV crossover will share a platform with an upcoming Jeep model as well. It should arrive in early 2022 if things stay on track from here. The express timeline also indicates that the new Stellantis STLA large-vehicle architecture will have to be ready before 2027. It's set to replace the sharp-handling rear-wheel-drive Giorgio platform that underpins the Giulia and Stelvio. And while it'll be shared across multiple Stellantis brands, Imparato has promised Alfa Romeo-badged cars will retain the qualities that have made the name so special. In the same report, Stellantis confirmed that Opel would go all-electric by 2028 and Fiat would follow by 2030.
