Sharp, all-original Alfa Romeo 164S, the one to own. This is a fairly rare first-year model of the Sport in the US. It has always been a California-car since sold new in Southern California, until relocated to Northern California last year. I had no intention of selling my Alfa, but a sudden job-relocation makes this improbable ( I just got orders for a year in Kuwait). Reluctantly, I am posting it for sale here to find it a good Alfisti home.

* I have had every kind of schmuck ask when I am leaving. Let's be clear, you ARE NOT going to contact me two days before I need to leave to make some ridiculous offer. I am motivated, NOT desperate to sell. If it does not sell, it will go in storage*. If you are truly serious, feel free to contact me directly and we can discuss. Otherwise, go away!

This S comes fully-equipped  with the Sport package, with the revised 3.0L V6 engine, updated suspension, Aerodynamics body trim package, S wheels and sport seats. It has 155K original miles, and it runs super, in both around town and on the freeway. That having been said, I do not fancy myself to be a race-car driver, and DO NOT abuse my cars, and have never done so. I have been very careful driver, and drive my 164 normally.

The 5-spd manual transmission shifts well and precisely into all forward and reverse gears. There is NO slippage, grinding of gears or odd noises. The clutch grabs quickly and does not slip. It has had a new clutch master cylinder replaced recently, so no risk of losing clutch pressure unexpectedly.

The 3.0L engine received a top-end overhaul at around 125K miles. It is tight and not a leaky mess like most. It is completely stock original, without any modifications from stock, besides an updated ANSA exhaust system. The car has also has front brakes just serviced ( the rotors are mirror mint). Rear brakes are about 80%. The 164 has stock-size radials with excellent tread ( at least 85% left), mounted on the factory alloy wheels. NO front-end vibrations, wobbling or pulling. Revised water pump and pulley update, of course.

The body is in EXCELLENT condition, with absolutely NO dents nor rust whatsoever, anywhere in, under or around the car. The body is completely 100% RUST-FREE, as any clean, California car should always be. The original factory finish has held up remarkably well, with no flaking of the clearcoat anywhere, or fading to the roofline, trunk, hood or rear spoiler. The original glossy black still retains a beautiful shine despite the passing of years, evident that it has been regularly garaged.

The interior upholstery is in better than average condition. Both front seats are sound, with NO cracks, splits, tears or separation of the seams. The upholstery, including the other seats and all door panels are in very good shape, clean and with no damage. The factory carpeting is very clean, and I had it recently professionally shampooed, along with the trunk carpeting, which is also very clean.

NEEDS:

1. Windshield is spidered on the right side.

2. The left-side fog light took a pebble.

3. Airbag light is on, and has been forever. Does nothing.

Overall, it is a very solid, good-running Alfa 164S, hard to find in its original configuration. It has NEVER been in an accident, wrecked, modified or fiddled with. I have listed the car to sell, with a fair opening bid. That being said, I have advertised the 164S in various other venues for more. I am open to a reasonable, FAIR offer.

To those that like to play games and bid $5 at the time, this is NOT going to be the car for you. To the serious, potential interested bidders, I welcome your bid and any questions you may have concerning the 164S. I reserve the right to end this auction early at any time, should a serious offer present itself, so bid early and bid often~!

Upon end of the auction, I would like to receive payment within three business days. PLEASE ensure that your source of funds is in place and sorted out before placing a bid, in order to make timely payment.

If that means asking your significant other, checking with your boss that you are not getting transferred to Saudi Arabia or checking any significant tornado patterns landing in your home state, PLEASE do so prior to placing a bid and prior to the end of the auction.

Upon receipt of payment, I shall immediately mail you the CA title and bill of sale to the Alfa, via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation, unless otherwise noted. Method of payment can be a cashier's check, or money order(s). Personal, business, C.C advance or annuity account checks may be utilized, but must clear funding before the car is released. Additionally, a bank wire transfer may be sent to my local CHASE bank branch here in town; it allows for faster shipping arrangements and a timely closing of the transaction. Finally, PAYPAL may be used as an alternative if previously arranged between the buyer and seller (me), prior to placing a bid, and prior to the end of the auction.

I shall be glad to assist with transportation/ delivery of this 164S to any location, nationwide or overseas. I can make all arrangements for shipping from here to your location, at the most economical shipping rate available.

Feel free to EM or call me with questions at (650) 430-4660 ( no later than 9pm PST, please). Thank you for your interest~!

Alfa Romeo to launch new versions of 4C each year

Mon, Mar 24 2014

Alfa Romeo is an exciting brand. You could argue that the MiTo and Giulietta hatchbacks might not speak so much to that effect, but the 4C sure does. Fortunately, Alfa has every intention of keeping the 4C at the forefront of its lineup with a series of upgrades – one to come each year, according to Top Gear. The production version of the compact mid-engined sports car launched just last year at the Geneva Motor Show, and this year the company returned with the 4C Spider concept that previews the production roadster to follow. That may prove the most substantial of the revisions Alfa has in mind for the 4C, but it may not be the last. Just what Alfa will do next remains to be seen, but sources are already speculating on what could follow. Since the current 4C is a bare-bones affair – with a minimalist cabin and no trunk to speak of with the front hood welded shut – we're wouldn't be surprised to see a slightly more accommodating version follow. After that, it's anyone's guess. Top Gear suggests a more hardcore version – it sure would be exciting to see the Quadrifoglio Verde adorn a more powerful 4C in the future. But we're still years off from seeing any such derivative come to fruition, so we'll just have to hold on tight for the time being and wait for Alfa to finally bring itself and the 4C to American showrooms. Alfa Romeo reportedly developing a Giulia-based coupe

Thu, Apr 5 2018

Much like classic, rear-wheel-drive Alfa Romeo sedans, the Giulia might gain a coupe counterpart. The possible Alfa Romeo coupe wouldn't just be a cruiser, as it's rumored to get a fantastical-sounding 641 horsepower output. British Autocar's sources say Alfa Romeo is developing a coupe based on the Giulia, with the front end carried over and a coupe body designed from that point back. Autocar says the coupe could be unveiled this year and hit the market in 2019. Alfa Romeo sold some 8,900 Giulias last year in the United States, and the coupe could function as a halo car. As for the powertrain, the standard version would utilize the Giulia's two-liter turbo engine good for 197 and 276 horsepower in various guises, but the absolute big deal would be the 2.9 turbo V6, which would gain an F1-style energy recovery system to boost the power to near-Ferrari levels. As in 641 horsepower, which is hundreds more than possible competitors from BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz have. The non-ERS, 500 hp version could also be available. Sources say a name for the coupe could be Sprint, which certainly carries a cachet, but as Autocar notes, "GTV" would correspond to Alfa Romeo's RWD history a little better — take for example the 1970s Alfetta and Alfetta GTV sedan-coupe combination. Sprint, on the other hand, was a front-wheel-drive coupe based on Alfasud hatchback mechanicals. Marchionne: FCA, but not Ferrari, interested in Formula E

Sat, Aug 5 2017

It seems like automakers have been clamoring to get on board with Formula E lately. In just the last few weeks a number of manufacturers have either become more directly involved, or otherwise announced entry into the series in coming years. That includes Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, with the latter two abandoning other series to join the electric one. Now, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne says his company might join Formula E as well, according to Motorsport. Previously, Marchionne had toyed with the idea of bringing Ferrari into the Formula E field, but now says that would be unlikely. Instead, he thinks an FCA brand would be a better fit, perhaps Alfa Romeo or Maserati. At the moment, Maserati seems like the best fit, as Marchionne just announced that the brand would electrify its entire lineup after 2019, with each car it sells having either a hybrid or electric powertrain. Fans would probably be excited to see Maserati return to racing, and Formula E would be a good test laboratory for the development of electric propulsion technology. Still, another brand could represent FCA in Formula E, and apply the knowledge learned there to its vehicles, as Marchionne says half of the FCA fleet will be electrified by the end of the company's five-year plan ending in 2022. Marchionne said that while Ferrari won't be directly involved, he doesn't know which FCA brand – Alfa Romeo, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, or Maserati – would enter. As interesting as an electric Dodge race car would be, it seems unlikely, especially because of, well, Maserati. We're hoping it's Jeep, though.
