1985 Alfa Romeo Spider Silver, Red Leather, Mechanical Renewals, Nice Condition on 2040-cars

1985 Alfa Romeo Spider convertible
For those who know and love Alfas, 1985 is a great year...reliable Bosch fuel injection, classic style, and the interior still featured (for the last year) the "pod" gauges and the lovely wooden steering wheel. Of course, there's that engine too (!). This is a wonderful example, with some unique and tasteful touches. Factory metallic silver paint, and completely rust-free top to bottom (see pics). Recently waxed and detailed, as is evident. The stock black interior was completely redone in the 90s in top-quality burgundy leather. . . dash cap, dash, door panels, console cover, seats. It's remained in very very nice condition, with only minor hardening and very slight wear in the driver's seat. This car was a daily driver for me until recent knee surgery that makes a standard transmission unwieldy. The car features: • Recent mechanical work including valve job (by Alfa Atlanta), brake master cylinder and vacuum booster, and odds and ends • Redoing of the suspension, with new springs etc... corners like no Alfa I've ever driven. • Complete recent electrical check-up and clean-up to eliminate all shorts and erratic behavior • Good clutch and very very good transmission. . .it doesn't "shift like a Toyota" but with good technique there is no second-gear synchro grind • Good tires (Pirellis all around), original five-spoke wheels, good brakes • Great condition top with clear and supple window • Very nice stereo with Sony head unit, Alpine remote power amp, and MB Quart two-way speakers (tastefully mounted in the kick panels and not the doors) • Nice quality alarm system (I don't ever use it, but I know it works) Bobby at Alfa Atlanta knows this car well and can recommend it highly. Were I to keep it, I'd just keep driving it vigorously. When you get a new clutch some day, get the horseshoe seal replaced (it seeps a bit of oil) but doesn't need anything to be a daily driver. The only things not working are the horn and the fuel gauge (but the light still works) and the AC of course. It's a very clean and mostly original example. As for history, I bought this car maybe 10 years ago from the person who had had it restored and renewed (that leather, and an engine rebuild). Mileage at the time was unknown due to a broken odometer, since replaced. I sold the car three years later to a colleague who drove it another few years, did all the suspension work, and sold it to an Audi repair shop in Atlanta. I bought it back three years ago and have enjoyed it and repaired/renewed it since. So I don't know the mileage, but it's just had a new top-end rebuild and runs/shifts/drives/looks excellent. I cannot post them here, but there are two YouTube videos under my user name, Mark K, with "1985 Alfa Start" and "Through the gears" that provide additional information and a glimpse at some twisty-road fun. Usual payment arrangements ($500 down-payment within 4 days of auction end), shipping/pick-up at buyer's responsibility and arrangement. |

Fiat 124 Abarth Spider spied, may get Alfa 4C power
Tue, Jul 14 2015We've long been excited to see, hear, and drive the car that results from the in-process Fiat-Mazda partnership. The Italian brand has had access to the excellent 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata on which to base its own roadster, and the fruits of that labor will soon ripen. Spied here is not only the ensuing Fiat 124, but a hotter Abarth tuned version of the spider. At least, that's what we're hoping. Our spy shooters indicated that the car seen here not only sounded more aggressive than 'standard' 124 mules seen previously, but that it also accelerated away from their long lenses with a smartness. The 124 Spider is already rumored to make use of the 1.4-liter turbo I4 that makes 160 horsepower in the Fiat 500 Abarth, and this version may have a still-more-powerful engine. Another tell about the added output are the quad tailpipes in place of the lesser car's set of two. There's no hard evidence to support exactly which engine might be under the 124's hood, however. It's possible that the 1.7-liter turbo from Alfa Romeo 4C could be in play – with its 237-hp output – as the 124 was originally going to wear an Alfa badge. If that were to happen, however, the Fiat would almost certainly get a dual-clutch transmission instead of the purer manual box. In any event, more details about the car will no doubt crop up closer to the expected reveal this fall. Related Video:
Watch Alfa Romeo's slightly suggestive lifestyle ad for the 4C
Sun, Jan 4 2015We haven't watched a car ad with this much European panache in quite some time - and let us be clear, we're using the phrase "European panache" in its marketing sense, which is code for "women in lingerie." But it's Alfa Romeo and it's Italy and it's the 4C and what else would we ever have expected? Alfa Romeo USA has posted a two-minute spot talking up the technology and capabilities of the of 4C, with beauty shots of the car augmented by an amorous pantomime between two beautiful people wearing a whisper of clothing and some un-subtle editing; like when the phrase "pure seduction" is matched to the 4C's rear end and... some lovely lady lumps. It's totally safe for work, but that doesn't mean you want it rolling when the boss walks by. And speaking of the above phrase, we're wondering if the coupe's exterior designers signed off on "The inexplicable design of the 4C is pure seduction." Inexplicable? Check it out in the video above.
Alfa Romeo planning Giulia GTA to rival M3, C63
Tue, Aug 19 2014What do you think of when you see the letters GTA? The Grand Theft Auto video game franchise? The GTA Spano supercar from Spain? Alfa Romeo enthusiasts remember it as the ultimate badge of performance from the Italian automaker, but while it's been over a decade since those letters appeared on a production Alfa, the latest rumors suggest they could be making a comeback in the form of a new Giulia GTA. Those who've been following developments from Alfa Romeo will know that the company is planning a successor to the beautifully angular 159 with a new Giulia to slot in above the Giulietta five-door hatch, and according to Auto Express, a new GTA version is in the works. Tipped to be powered by an upgraded version of the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 developed by Ferrari for the Maserati Ghibli, the Giulia GTA is rumored to pack around 500 horsepower (give or take 20 horses) underhood. That would give it a solid output advantage over the 425-hp BMW M3 and 451-hp Mercedes C63 AMG and give Fiat Chrysler Automobiles a performance sedan to challenge the upcoming Cadillac ATS-V and slot in below the bonkers 707-hp Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. Expect other oily bits to include a dual-clutch transmission and limited slip differential, as well as upgraded brakes, rolling stock and aero components. The last time we saw the GTA badge was on the MiTo GTA concept (pictured above) that appeared at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. Alfa was said to be considering a 159 GTA, similarly powered by Ferrari, back in 2007, but the rumors didn't come to fruition. The last production model to wear those letters was the 156 GTA that preceded it, with a 3.2-liter V6 that produced 250 hp. The most famous example, however, was the Giulia Sprint GTA produced in the late 1960s... a legend that Alfa appears keen to revive with this new model.
