Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Up for sale is a 1974 ALFA ROMEO GTV 2000.  The last year of this body style!

This is a numbers matching car (VIN AR 3022012), with pictures proving that all VIN's match throughout the car.  The car is in running condition, however, would benefit from a true exterior restoration.  The interior is in EXCELLENT shape, with only one small tear, which newly formed.  Extensive pictures (and video) were taken, to show the true condition of the vehicle.  Unfortunately, no time to restore.

Key Details are as follows:

- MILEAGE  94,078 MILES:
- Red Exterior (was repainted 15+ years ago, seems to originally be a pastel yellow color);
- Black Interior (seats and carpet were fully restored about 10 years ago, showing one small tear in the seats);
- All lights and wipers seem to be in working order (pictures to prove), with signals, brake lights, and all four front lights having no issue turning on;
- A decent driver with the potential to restore exterior to show car condition (for the right Alfista owner!)
- Rocker panels would require immediate attention;
- Rear of the vehicle has two dents, one of which the paint has clearly chipped off;
- Alloy wheels are in good shape, and could benefit from a spit-shine;
- Interior door panels are in excellent shape;
- Engine runs, as per video in the link attached, but could benefit from a true tune up, and maybe some Webers!
- Exhaust was replaced about 6.5 years ago, and is in okay shape;

Car is being sold, where is, and as is.  Please note it is a candidate for true exterior restoration. These cars are getting rarer and rarer each day.  Values are increasing by the minute.  Don't regret not buying one!

History & Background on Alfa Romero's GTVs (courtesy of Wikipedia):

The 2000 GTV was introduced in 1971 together with the 2000 Berlina sedan and 2000 Spider. The 2000 range was the replacement for the 1750 range. The engine displacement was increased to 1962 cc with a change of the bore and stroke to 84 mm x 88.5 mm. Oil and radiator capacities remained unchanged. The engine produced 132 PS (97 kW; 130 hp) at 5500 rpm with the SPICA fuel injection, which was only fitted to cars destined for the United States and Canadian markets, with carburetors retained for other markets producing officially the same power.

The basic body shape shared by all models was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone. It was one of his first major projects for Bertone, and borrowed heavily from his earlier design for the Alfa Romeo 2000 Sprint/2600 Sprint. Even Jaguar later on copied the charm and elegance of the Italian design. The balance of glass and metal, the influence of the shape of the front and rear glass on the shape of the cabin, and the flat grille with incorporated headlamps were groundbreaking styling features for the era.

The interior trim was also changed, with the most notable differences being the introduction of a separate instrument cluster, instead of the gauges installed in the dash panel in earlier cars. The 2000 GTV is most easily distinguished by its different grille. From 1974 on, this became standard on the GT 1300 Junior and GT 1600 Junior as well.

Externally the 2000 GTV is most easily distinguished by the following features:

  • Grille with horizontal chrome bars, featuring protruding blocks forming the familiar Alfa heart in outline.
  • Smaller hubcaps with exposed wheel nuts.
  • Optional aluminum alloy wheels of the same size as the standard 5. 1/2J x 14 steel items, styled to the "turbina" design first seen on the alloy wheels of the Alfa Romeo Montreal. "Turbina" refers to the wheel's resemblance to a jet engine inlet.
  • The larger rear light clusters first fitted to United States market 1750 GTV's were standard for all markets on the 2000 GTV. USA market rear turn signals were red instead of yellow on non-USA models. The side marker lamps were larger and did not have a turn signal flash feature.

From 1974 on, the 105 Series coupe models were rationalized and these external features became common to post-1974 GT 1300 Junior and GT 1600 Junior models, with only few distinguishing features marking the difference between models. The last GTV model year was 1974 for the USA. 37,459 2000 GTVs were made before production ended.

Marchionne offers belated apology for 'wop engine' comment

Wed, 22 May 2013

Automotive News reports Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has issued a written apology for his comments regarding his decision to stick with an Italian engine for the upcoming Alfa Romeo 4C. As you may recall, back in January, Marchionne was quoted as saying, "I cannot come up with a schlock product, I just won't. I won't put an American engine into that car. With all due respect to my American friends, it has to be a wop engine." The CEO penned an apology to the Italian American ONE VOICE Coalition for using the racial epithet, saying that he made the comment in jest. Marchionne also said he realizes his remarks were unacceptable.
ONE VOICE, an organization aimed at fighting discrimination and stereotyping of Italian Americans, thanked Marchionne, Chrysler and Fiat for the apology. Marchionne is an Italian-born Canadian citizen, and he's gotten in trouble for other comments in the past. In 2011, he called high interest rates Chrysler was paying to the Canadian government "shyster rates." He apologized a day later.

Fiat set to invest $12B on new models, stop Euro losses in 3 years

Mon, 09 Dec 2013

Naturally, you'd expect a massive automaker like Fiat to have an in-depth plan to exit the current European-market doldrums, and you'd expect that plan to include plenty of new vehicles to attract those precious buyers that still remain despite the financial downturn. And you'd be right, though Fiat does seem to have a few unexpected twists up its corporate sleeve.
Perhaps the biggest shocker is a report that Fiat will completely drop the Punto, a car with mass-market appeal aimed at small-car buyers cross-shopping the popular Volkswagen Polo. Its replacement will be a five-door Fiat 500 aimed at upmarket buyers (sounds awfully similar to the 500L) that will be built in Poland. Lower-end customers will reportedly be served by variants of the Fiat Panda.
Borrowing a page from the BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen playbook, reports Automotive News, Fiat is said to have plans to reignite production at its Italian factories by retooling them to build high-end vehicles from Maserati and Alfa Romeo. These will be marketed as premium products, built by skilled Italian workers (who are paid wages that are 75-percent higher than those building Fiats in Poland), and will be sold around the world.

Marchionne to make Alfa Romeo a separate company within Fiat

Mon, 28 Apr 2014

According to a report in Automotive News that quotes "people familiar with the matter," the next big play in Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne's plan for Alfa Romeo is to break it off from Fiat Group Automobiles and set it up as a separate company within the Fiat empire, giving it the same structure as Ferrari and Maserati. The idea, say the sources, is that a transparent, standalone Alfa Romeo that has to justify its every move could clearly prove its success in the public financial statements it would have to report, finally achieving Marchionne's aim of making Alfa Romeo "a credible business proposition."
That, of course, assumes that Alfa Romeo will make a success of it. The brand hasn't made a profit in any year of Marchionne's decade at the helm; sales last year fell to numbers not seen in almost half a century and its new product offensive might not include the two vehicles currently responsible for 99 percent of its sales. We're told that the brand's six new models will begin arriving in 2016 - a roadster, a midsize sedan and large sedan, a compact SUV and large SUV, and a large coupe.
Marchionne aims to expand Alfa's global appeal in several ways, the first by stressing that they are Italian products that 'belong' to Italy. This is the stance that appears to have put the kibosh on the roadster twinned with the coming Mazda MX-5/Miata. Alfa Romeos will all be made in their home country, and if they take off they'll help bandage Fiat's problem with underused plant capacity, a bugbear that is just as problematic culturally and politically as financially. Top-tier trims would use V6 engines developed by Ferrari, and global access would get a boost by selling Alfa Romeos in Jeep's 1,700 international dealerships.
