1969 Alfa Romeo Berlina 1750 on 2040-cars
Glendale, California, United States
|
Up for sale is a 1969 Alfa Romeo Berlina 1750 with a 2 Liter Engine and 5 Speed. I am selling one of my 1969 Berlina daily drivers. This true sport sedan is equipped with a 2 Liter engine with SPICA injection and the Shankle Sure start. I have receipts and photos for the engine rebuilt dated 1993. The 1969 is the first year of official Berlina sales in the US. Not many imported into US, with perhaps a few hundred currently in the US with about half of those in running condition. The Berlina is a true sport sedan. Light in handling with 2L giving it ample power, it will outrun most, if not all, European sport sedans of similar vintage especially on twisty roads where great handling is essential. The Berlinas are 105 series cars and share quite a bit of mechanical hardware with the Giulia GT and the Spider - as evidenced by the 2L conversion something Alfa Romeo should have offered back in 1969. Parts are plentiful and inexpensive, making this car a unique budget classic daily driver. These cars are mechanically straight forward and the 2L power train is extremely reliable with proper and regular maintenance. According to the history paperwork I have on this car, the gearbox was gone through at the time of the rebuilt with 3 new syncro rings and seals. The drive shaft bearing and the flexible coupling (guibo) has also been replaced at the same time. I have just had Master Brake cylinder rebuilt by Santos and had him install OE switches for the fan and the wipers. Fan works on all speeds, the wiper only on one. The lights work, including the Euro side markers and license plate lights. Previous owner has reconditioned the dash with undercoating to eliminate cracks, although there are few minor small cracks visible. Dash mouldings and 1750 dash emblem are present. I have the veneers off the car and will include these in the sale. Seats are in good condition but this being California they have some minor dry cracking on the top edges exposed to the sun. The car has front and rear seat belts. The headliner is in decent shape as can be seen from the pictures. The steering wheel is an original 1750 thin black rimmed wheel. It comes with the owners manual. The all gauges work, including the clock! I have driven this car in the Los Angeles traffic and through the Malibu canyons. The temperature always stays within norm, it never overheated on me even in stop and go. The clutch is smooth, there is no usual 2nd gear grind. The brakes work great! I run Premium gas and the SPICA gives me pretty decent gas mileage with good power. The cosmetics on the car are not perfect. The car is a 10 footer with visible blemishes in the clear on the roof and other places of the car. The paint on the right quarter has a good sized chip in it. According to the previous owner, the car had been rear ended at some time of its long life. There's no rust visible around the base of the glass front and rear. Previous owner did a rust repair on the driver's side floor. Overall this is a pretty good daily driver Berlina. It is not original and is not being sold as a perfect car. It is a 45 year old Italian Sport Sedan that drives well, does not smoke or overheat, has good tires and a decent interior. This car is a very smart way to get into the classic car market. The 1969 Berlinas are only increasing in price as the vintage Alfa Romeo sport sedan market is heating up. It is currently registered in California with registration good for most of the next year and has a CLEAN California Title. Please note that this car is exempt from California smog law. It can be driven as is or modified to your taste. I have set a fair reserve and the car is sold as is where is. No warranties are provided or implied. |

Alfa Romeo to launch new versions of 4C each year
Mon, Mar 24 2014Alfa Romeo is an exciting brand. You could argue that the MiTo and Giulietta hatchbacks might not speak so much to that effect, but the 4C sure does. Fortunately, Alfa has every intention of keeping the 4C at the forefront of its lineup with a series of upgrades – one to come each year, according to Top Gear. The production version of the compact mid-engined sports car launched just last year at the Geneva Motor Show, and this year the company returned with the 4C Spider concept that previews the production roadster to follow. That may prove the most substantial of the revisions Alfa has in mind for the 4C, but it may not be the last. Just what Alfa will do next remains to be seen, but sources are already speculating on what could follow. Since the current 4C is a bare-bones affair – with a minimalist cabin and no trunk to speak of with the front hood welded shut – we're wouldn't be surprised to see a slightly more accommodating version follow. After that, it's anyone's guess. Top Gear suggests a more hardcore version – it sure would be exciting to see the Quadrifoglio Verde adorn a more powerful 4C in the future. But we're still years off from seeing any such derivative come to fruition, so we'll just have to hold on tight for the time being and wait for Alfa to finally bring itself and the 4C to American showrooms. Alfa Romeo's next GTV could arrive as an electric flagship sedan
Mon, Jun 21 2021Like every brand under the Stellantis umbrella, Alfa Romeo has until 2030 to prove it deserves to live. It's reportedly planning a major overhaul that could bring the well-known GTV nameplate back to the range on an electric sedan. Newly-minted company boss Jean-Philippe Imparato recently said he's "very interested" in making a modern-day GTV, though he significantly warned nothing was set in stone yet. British magazine Autocar understands that all options remain on the table, and one of them is putting the GTV emblem on a battery-powered sedan with a coupe-like roof line. Simultaneously GT and EV, it would be the Italian firm's answer to the BMW i4, among other sedans. It would slot at the very top of the lineup, at least in terms of price and probably in terms of performance. If the rumor is accurate, it would mark the first time the GTV nameplate appears on a four-door in the Alfa Romeo portfolio. It's been used on a number of models since its introduction on a gorgeous, Bertone-designed coupe in 1965, and they've all had two doors. Alfa Romeo came close to dusting off the GTV nameplate on a two-door version of the Giulia which would have been aimed at the BMW 4 Series and Audi's A5 line. While this strategy would have followed tradition (the original GTV was closely related to the original Giulia), the project was canned at an advanced stage due to a perceived lack of demand. Had it been launched, it would have offered a 50/50 weight distribution and about 600 horsepower. Alfisti who find the idea of an electric, four-door GTV unpalatable shouldn't worry yet. Insiders told Autocar that the nameplate might alternatively make a comeback on hybrid coupe; its fate hasn't been decided yet. Of course, it could also not return and remain in the history book, where it's been since the last GTV retired in 2004. What's seemingly certain is that new Alfa Romeo models are around the corner. One is the production version of the Tonale concept, which was reportedly delayed by Imparato earlier in 2021 due to issues with the hybrid system that will be available at launch. Replacements for the Giulia and the Stelvio are said to be in the pipeline, too. Related Video: Green Alfa Romeo Electric Future Vehicles Performance Sedan
The Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio set a lap record at Silverstone with someone driving blind
Mon, Nov 21 2016Alfa Romeo announced today that its Giulia Quadrifoglio super sedan set a new lap record at Silverstone that nearly matched one put down by one of its Formula 1 cars in 1951. The F1 car set a time of 1:44, and the Giulia finished in 1:44.3. That may seem a bit slow for a modern 505-horsepower sports sedan, but it makes more sense when you realize the Giulia in question had black vinyl over the windows to keep the driver, Ed Morris, from seeing where he was going. Apparently Alfa thinks a clear view makes driving too easy. To get around the substantial handicap, Morris was assisted by directions from another driver in a following Giulia Quadrifoglio. The other driver, David Brise, radioed directions to Morris to get him around the track – and avoid crashing. Over the course of two days, the duo got the hang of it and set the aforementioned lap time. They even reached speeds of over 100 mph. You can see them practicing and setting the time in the video above. It was a cute record to set, but we're hoping blindfolded Nurburgring laps aren't next. Related Video:
