Here offering for sale a very beautiful rust free original California black license plate 1965 Alfa Rome vantage Giulietta Sprint model/chassis #101.02.38563

This is a European model first sold in France and later imported to the U S California by its original owner. This Alfa built at the end of the Giulietta model line alongside the new Giulia line, the car was delivered with option from the new Giulia : front disc brakes, a five speed transmission and special high lift cams.

This Alfa was purchased from its original owner about 1969 by Richard Gephardt Alfas of the late 60’s to mid 70’s. Mr. Gephardt incorporated many of the shankel racing engine improvements into this car.

Starting as normale, Mr. Gephardt installed a Mondial kit with moly pistons and rings, twin Weber DCOE (bearing throttle shafts) carburetors with a custom air intake. Breathing is improved with high lift velocity cams with a custom oversize intake valves running in silicon bronze valve guides. Exhaust was through standard valves in silicone bronze valve guides and a veloce exhaust manifold (the shankel GTV manifold was tried, but was not as good). All this resulted in a dyno rating exceeding 112 HP (the 112 HP was before the more radical veloce cams were installed).

Additional changes included a custom rectangular steering wheel, electronic assisted ignition (disconnected for HMSA) and oil pressure relief from the pump and a GTV oil cap for oil pressure relief from the overhead valves.

In 1998 this car Alfa was purchased by Wayne Hanson and converted for racing in historical venues as a group FP -1. Significant changes made between 1999 and 2001 were.

Mechanical:

New heavy duty clutch and pressure plate (3/01)

Lower gear (5.13) rear end (3/01)

New axle seals and pinion seals (3/01)

All new hoses (USCG approved) and stainless steel base clamps. Balanced drive shaft

Installation of aluminum water catch tank.

New high-tension spark plug and distributer wiring

Programmable MSP rev limiter (set at 7800 RPM)

Installation of racing (22-24 #) radiator cap replace by lower pressure

Installation of new VDO oil pressure and water temperature gauges.

Rebuild brakes with Porterfield racing linings and pads.

New armored brake lines .New racing springs front and rear.

New oversize front anti sway bar, new rear axle retainer straps.

New extended wheel lugs and new nuts with 3/8” wheel spacers.

New battery tray , battery holder down, battery wiring and external battery emergency switch.

Safety:

Installed phoenix 10# Halon fire system (feet, engine, trunk)

Installed custom auto safe fuel cell in original fuel tank position

Installed custom auto power SCCA spec roll bar, powder coated with leather headrest.

Built and installed two Zagatto-style lightweight seats covered in leather.

Installed new auto power 5 pt safety belts for passenger.

Installed two Ray dot aluminum fender mirrors.

Installed full width wink mirror above windshield, and also installed quick disconnect tow hooks, front and back.

Alloy race wheels with racing tires also new break master cylinder and water pump.

Alfa Romeo Giulia to get Ferrari-related engine

Alfa Romeo has a long, proud history of using V6 engines in its coupes, sedans, and sports cars over the years, but as the new Giulia sedan approaches, the Italian marque is allegedly turning to Ferrari for its next six-cylinder. This is obviously not the first time a Ferrari-sourced or derived engine has been found under an Alfa's long hood. While 8C Competizione famously used a version of Ferrari's F136 V8 during its short run, the Giulia's new V6 will be offered on a much larger scale, slotting in above an entry level, four-cylinder turbo (likely the next-gen version of the 4C sports car's 1.75-liter engine). According to Autocar, the new V6 will be "specially developed for Alfa Romeo," and will be built at the Termoli engine factory alongside the new turbo four-cylinder. As for the rest of the Giulia, Autocar has been able to shine a light on a number of other details about the new midsizer. It will, thankfully, be rear-wheel drive, and designed to counter the "mostly cold and clinical" and soulless cars of the German competition, Maserati chief Harald Wester told AC. Some of the new sedan's structural elements will even be shared with Maserati's entry level model, the Ghibli. Most notable of all, though, is what the Giulia means for American consumers. After the limited-run 8C and the niche 4C, the new sedan will lead Alfa Romeo's long-awaited, large-scale return, where it will combat the popular BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, not to mention rivals like the Cadillac ATS and Lexus IS. Look for more on the Giulia next week when it's officially revealed in Milan.

Robert Kubica moves from Williams to Alfa Romeo F1 reserve

LONDON — Robert Kubica has joined Alfa Romeo as their 2020 reserve driver, the role the Pole carried out 14 years ago when he made his Formula One debut with the Swiss-based team then known as BMW Sauber. The deal announced on Wednesday also sees Polish oil company PKN ORLEN, who backed the 35-year-old's comeback last season at former champions Williams, become a co-title sponsor of the team in a multi-year partnership. Kubica's big break came in 2006 when he became Poland's first F1 racer, replacing Canada's 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve at BMW Sauber and going on to win with them at the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix. The Pole, who suffered a near-fatal rally accident in 2011 that partially severed his right arm, scored tail-enders Williams' only point last year in a remarkable personal comeback clouded by the team's inability to provide a competitive car. He announced in September that he was leaving and has since been replaced by Canadian Nicholas Latifi, the team's 2019 reserve. "I'm starting a new chapter in my career by joining Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN. This is a team that has a special place in my heart and it'll be nice to see the familiar faces I still remember from Hinwil," said Kubica in a statement. "Time and circumstances are obviously different, but I am convinced that I will find the same determination and hunger to succeed." Kubica had also been linked to the Haas and Racing Point teams who had considered him for a role as a tester and simulator driver. Ferrari-powered Alfa Romeo's race drivers this year are Finland's 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen and Italian Antonio Giovinazzi, an unchanged lineup from 2019. Team principal Frederic Vasseur welcomed Kubica, who before his accident raced for Renault and was close to becoming a Ferrari driver, back to the Hinwil factory. "He is a driver that needs no introduction: one of the most brilliant in his generation and one who displayed the true meaning of human determination in his fight to return to racing after his rallying accident," he said. "His feedback will be invaluable as we continue to push our team towards the front of the grid." Alfa Romeo finished last season in eighth place with 57 points. Junkyard Gem: 1992 Alfa Romeo 164S

Even after Citroen, Fiat, Renault and Peugeot departed the United States (in 1975, 1983, 1988 and 1991, respectively, though Malcolm Bricklin continued to sell Fiat 124 Sport Spiders and X1/9s with Pininfarina and Bertone badges for a few more years), Alfa Romeo managed to hang on all the way through 1995. The final Alfa Romeo models available here (prior to the brand's return to our shores in 2009) were the old-school Spider Veloce sports car and the mean-looking 164 sedan. The 164 sold well enough here that I still see examples on the street now and then, and I find discarded ones in car graveyards as well. Today's Junkyard Gem is the top-of-the-line 164 available in 1992, the mighty S version, found in a Denver self-service yard last month. In 1992, American Alfa shoppers could spend $25,865 on the base 164, $29,456 on the more luxurious 164L, or $32,054 for the factory-hot-rod 164S (that's about $50,885, $57,950, and $63,060, respectively, in inflation-adjusted 2021 dollars). Comparing the numbers of the 164S against those of the BMW 535i for 1992 make the Alfa look like quite a deal. The big-engined 535i boasted 208 horsepower and had a $44,350 sticker price, while the monstrous M5 had 310 horses… but would set you back $58,600). That means the Alfa cost just under 75% as much as its Bavarian rival. Meanwhile, the Alfa 164S had this 3.0-liter V6 making 200 horsepower. That gave the 535i and 164S near-identical power-to-weight ratios (17.2 lb/hp for the BMW, 17.4 for the Alfa). Admittedly, the 164S's power went to the front wheels while the 535i had rear-wheel-drive, but the Alfa's 3.0 looked and sounded much better than the BMW's 3.4 (and it's nearly impossible to make a V6 sound better than a straight-six, as anyone who has endured the ailing-bovine groan of most 1990s Detroit V6s can affirm). You could get a four-speed ZF automatic on the 164 and 164L in 1992, but the 164S had just one transmission available: a five-speed manual. This car isn't rusty and the interior looked very nice for a near-30-year-old car in Colorado, but there are few with the mechanical skills and sheer bravery to take on one of these cars with nearly 200,000 miles on the clock. Its next stop shall be The Crusher. This Euro-market commercial is for the 164 with quad-cam "super" V6, available here only for the 1993 through 1995 model years, but you get the idea. In Europe, Alfa Romeo outsold both Honda and Saab! What better reason to buy a 164?
