2021 Acura TLX Long-Term Update | Seats look great, feel less so

Fri, Jun 11 2021

There's a lot to like about our Acura TLX A-Spec's interior. In particular, I love the vivid red leather upholstery, the satisfying drive mode selector, and the loads of space inside. What I'm not so in love with is the actual design of the front seats. They look great and are quite shapely with the undulating black faux suede inserts and leather piping separating the aforementioned red leather panels. But they're underwhelming when they're under you. My biggest complaint is that the seat bottom is extremely short, and the adjustment for angle is a bit limited. As such, my thighs lack support, and on a long trip, this can become quite uncomfortable. The Acura is far from the only car I've experienced with this issue, but with our car priced over $45,000, it's surprising there isn't more adjustment, or some sort of seat base extender common in sportier cars (most notably BMW). 2021 Acura TLX A-Spec View 51 Photos Also disappointing is the lack of lateral support. The seats look like they have some decent bolsters, but they're very soft and fairly wide apart. As such, they don't do much to keep you in place. And although this isn't the full-force Type S, the A-Spec still has an air of sportiness about it, so it seems like something Acura would want to improve a little. It's not all bad, though. The seats themselves have thick and reasonably soft cushioning, so the parts of you that are supported are comfortable. The adjustable lumbar support is actually quite excellent with the ability to add quite a bit over a large area. Overall, I'm not angry with the TLX's seats, I'm just a bit disappointed. They wouldn't put me off the car, I just think that, for as good as so much else is, it deserves something better. Related Video:

Acura Performance Electric Vision concept sure looks like the next NSX

Fri, Aug 18 2023

Production of the second-generation Acura NSX ended in 2022, but the nameplate might not be consigned to the automotive attic for very long. The firm published sketches of an electric concept named Performance Electric Vision that can easily pass as a third-generation NSX. Acura's dimly-lit images hide many of the design study's finer details, but we can tell that the Performance Electric Vision concept features a futuristic design — it almost looks like it was beamed from the 22nd century. Its low front end has either hidden headlights or no headlights at all, and it receives neon green accents as well as a backlit Acura emblem. Pronounced wheel arches and a massive wrap-around windshield define the concept's silhouette, while the back end gets neon green accents as well as an air diffuser that looks like it belongs on a race car. Interior photos haven't been released yet, and Acura didn't have much to say about what powers the coupe. All we know is that it's electric. Officially, the Precision Electric Vision concept illustrates one of the directions Acura's design language can take in the coming years. Could there be more to it than that? While this is pure speculation, we don't think the NSX's spot in the Japanese brand's lineup will remain empty forever, and we've heard vague rumors detailing an electric third-generation model before. Rewind to September 2022: Jon Ikeda, the company's vice president, tellingly answered "I would bet on it" when asked whether the NSX nameplate will return for another generation. He added an important detail: "It's going to be electric." Cast in this light, the Performance Electric Vision concept sure looks like a preview of the next-generation NSX, but bringing it to the market is easier said than done. It takes more than an executive making a proverbial bet to bring a car to production, and Ikeda's team will notably need to convince Acura parent company Honda to spend money on a new NSX. UPDATE: 2003 Acura NSX-T in Long Beach Blue hammers at Cars & Bids

Wed, Sep 8 2021

UPDATE: This NSX-T sold today (Wednesday) for $72,500. Previous story appears below.   OK, we get it: There's really no such thing as "reasonable" Acura NSX ownership anymore, but around here, we're fans of cars that can be appreciated, and this 66K-mile automatic NSX-T finished in Long Beach Blue Pearl with a week to go at Cars & Bids has "driver" written all over it.  "But Byron, how can you call it a 'driver' when it has an automatic?" Honestly, we can't defend that particular choice on the original buyer's behalf, but what we mean is that this car isn't begging to be garaged for eternity. Between the visible signs of use on both the interior and exterior and the grunge present on the underbody, it's clear this car has spent its life being driven, meaning you won't have to feel guilty about doing the same.  This NSX is almost entirely original (the factory radio is included in case you want to eliminate the "almost") and its interior shows very little wear considering its mileage. The tan seat leather looks excellent, even on the bolsters, and all of the plastic and metal bits appear to be where they should. Outside, the paint shows signs of normal wear and tear, but certainly nothing that couldn't easily be corrected.  It may not be the best NSX to drive – or the one with the lowest miles or the least exposure to the elements – but that's why it might also be the right NSX for you. Why, you ask? Because it probably won't break the bank. But we'll see what a week of bidding says about that. Related video:
