Filthy crooks
Just all around money hungry like most chain auto repair places are. They take advantage of hard working people. They do whatever they can to sell as much as they can, it does not matter how new or how good of condition your vehicle is in, if you go for an oil change or something simple, they will push a whole list of services on you. They charged $600 for alternator replacement + oil change + "inspect` take apa... view morert brakes" because of an issue I was having with them. And said I urgently needed another thousand in repairs.

HEAD MY WARNING....DO NOT GO HERE FOR SERVICE!!!
I had my car towed into Midas Short Pump. $500 later they lied and did NOT fix the problem. I was still having the same problems and had to take the car back. They told me nothing was wrong yet I was still having the same car problems. THIRD visit later, my car was still having problems and they told me to take my car elsewhere. My car broke down right after driving it out of their lot on Broad Street. MIDAS TO... view moreTALLY RIPPED ME OFF AND THEY DON`T CARE. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE, PLEASE LISTEN. I called them to tell them my car just broke down and they said they did not care to call a tow truck. THIS PLACE IS A TOTAL RIP OFF!! They will be seeing legal action from me. terrible
Went there and priced a tire today, they wanted 250.00 thought that was high so when I got home I google merchants. Well can you believe they wanted 140.99 for the same tire mounted and balanced. Thought people should know the extreme difference. Just sick! Stay away from those criminals.

Worst place ever
Mark Smith totally tried to rip my daughter off. $40.00 to clean battery cables. Had the work done at another place for 1/3 of the price. All Mark could say was ""I sleep fine at night"". He is in business to take advantage of people. Stay away

Unusual experience from this shop. Purely no-recommendable.
I took my 1998 Ford Windstar minivan to this repair shop on Fri, 10/24/08 and explained that the car was making a noise. The car makes noises that sound like they are coming from steering. The noise gets much louder when I turn. Midas quoted me $494.87 to replace two tie rod ends and said this would stop the noise.

I authorized the repair, paid by credit card and picked up my vehicle on 10/25/08. The vehic... view morele is still making the same noise. I called and spoke to one of the managers and we arranged a date and time for me to return the vehicle for further repair. I took my vehicle back to the repair shop on Tues, 10/28 and left it all day. They did not perform any repairs or attempt to diagnose the problem but told me to bring it back another day. We arranged a new appointment time. However, due to a family emergency I was unable to bring my minivan in at that time. When I called to ask for a new appointment time, Mr Mark Smith, owner of the shop, insisted that I bring the vehicle back at 7:30 am Mon 11/3. I arrived at the requested time on Mon 11/3 and Mr Smith told me he would not repair my vehicle. He abused me and my entire family and forced me to leave the shop.

Horrible experience
I had my car inspected at Short Pump Midas (the Virginia State Inspection); they called 3 hours later and told me that they had to fail my car because of a loose fan speed control cap. Then they offered me that if I pay them $32 to replace it, my car will pass. Can you believe it? Fail an inspection because of a loose fan speed control cap! It is no difference than robbing. I took my car away and had it passed at a d... view moreifferent shop. Later on, my co-worker told me that Midas is infamous for such practices. Don`t go to Midas if you can.

Unfortunate experience
I had my 2003 Honda Civic towed here after I left the lights on while at work, rendering the battery useless.

My service manager was Travis. The mechanic who looked at my car told me?much to my surprise?that the alternator was to blame, not the battery. This made me a little suspicious, and I even consulted my regular mechanic to ask if this was reasonable.

I decided to have the work done. However, as I... view more was driving home, the battery indicator light came on, then the car died at a busy intersection. I was able to get a jump start (thank you good samaritan!) and make it home before the car died again.

When I called Travis the next day, he wasn`t exactly apologetic about the whole thing, but did offer to have the car towed back to Midas and have the work done again, all at no charge. At first I declined and simply asked for a refund. I was told I couldn`t get one if he couldn`t look at the car.

Instead I had the car towed to a local dealership, which diagnosed the problem?the alternator that Midas had installed was in fact defective, and the battery was indeed dead. This basically meant that MIdas` diagnostics, for which they`d charged me $33, were incorrect, and that they charged me $475 to install an alternator which I may or may not have needed.

Incidentally, my Honda service representative advised me to bring the car back to Midas; otherwise, I would have to pay another $550 to have a new alternator installed at the dealer (on top of the $500 I`d spent already at Midas, which I could not otherwise recover). I called Midas and explained the situation. This time I spoke with Lynette, who was much more understanding about things, and she offered to have the work done at no charge. I agreed.

Whether or not Midas does honest work, I would still not trust them with my car, due to the inconvenience and cost of this experience. In the future I know it`s worth the cost of towing to bring the car to a good shop.
