I bought a car from a nearby dealer, which had a bad catalytic converter. The dealer agreed to have it fixed and sent my wife with the car over to Rick`s... I talked to Rick on the phone and asked him to keep the OEM flanges in tact, welding the new cat between them so that OEM components could be replace in the future, if needed, to which he agreed... but didn`t do; he cut the flange off of the $500 manifold and int... view moreermediate pipe and welded a filler-pipe and cat directly to them. The cat failed within a year, and of course I couldn`t just order a $100 direct-fit aftermarket replacement now, so I drove to Pasadena (I live in Austin) to have him replace it under warranty, which he did, to his credit. However.... less than a year later, I noticed my Honda seemed a little noisy, which got progressively worse, so I crawled under the car to find that the pipe had cracked through at the manifold weld, and realized that he didn`t install a flex-pipe (flex pipes are necessary when the OEM flanges are removed, which are designed to flex under torque)!! I`m lucky that the pipe itself broke under torque instead of at the manifold/head. The cat was welded at the manifold, so I`ll either have to cut it out and move it downstream so I can add a proper flex pipe, or just suck it up and rebuild the system right using oem components.
