One star is too high, they deserve as many negative stars as possible. Avoid at all costs, this place is a textbook horror story. 1) They insisted on payment for work I did not authorize (which, by the way, is illegal in Oregon). 2) Ooops. And, oh yeah, the guy behind the desk was the most toxic manager I?ˆ™ve ever had the misfortune to deal with in any capacity.

I bought a car from these people desperately needing transportation for my wife. We explained that we needed reliable transportation and that we just wanted something to get us through until we could save up for another car. They told me it was a ""good car"" gone through by their technicians and given tranny service and such.

Two weeks in, my wife was backing out of the driveway to take our kids to school an... view mored the transmission grenaded and broke the outer case. (thank God in our driveway) I called them several times over the next few weeks and was put off, told to talk to ""the other guy"" (they sell them through ""arrowwood auto"" at a staffing service up the street) and finally after a month of not returning my phone calls, Jay tells me ""I`m not going to do anything for you, I don`t know what you want me to do""

Here`s what I wanted, Jay, treat me like a human being, maybe offer to give me free labor, a discount on a tranny, SOMETHING. Thanks for being heartless.

I`ve been taking my car there for about five years for small jobs and more extensive repairs. They will tell me what`s wrong and what my options are and I`ve always been satisfied. They`ve always gone out of their way to be helpful--driving me home and picking me up when the work takes a longer time. BIG mark up on parts. They will fix your car maybe. Or maybe it will take 3 or more trys. Mean while you are on foot. Your car may be worth only $300 but they will spend $700 on it and tell you it needs more and send you on your way after they get your money. RUN from this garage. FAST!

My husband brought his car into Jay`s last week because of some smoke and some starting problems he noticed with his 98 BMW. We have gone to Jay`s before for oil changes--nothing more major than that--and always felt they were very nice. We called ahead before we brought the car in to see if they could take a quick look at it and they said no problem. When we got there they took a look at the engine (no more than ... view more10 minutes!) and told us that it would be around $2,000 to fix it and that we shouldn`t even bother because the car wasn`t worth much more! Jay was just as sweet as he could be and was very sympathetic offering to help us try and salvage the car by making some calls to his contacts since we didn`t have the money to fix it. The next week Jay said he would give us $250 dollars for it along with the title never mentioning any service charges. However, when we found someone else that would give us a better deal JAY HELD OUR CAR UNLAWFULLY until we would pay $220 for an unauthorized diagnoses of our car which was NEVER MENTIONED BEFORE! He would not give us our vehicle until we contacted a lawyer! The man is a liar and a crook--don`t go here!!!

Do not be fooled by the friendly greeting of the shop owner. It`s just a plot to make you feel comfortable. I have been a regular at Jay`s for a few years now, but looking back at my service records make me realize I was dooped on several occasions. Namely, I kept having to bring my car back for the same problem, but each time it was a ""new"" problem and I was charged all over again. Most times I have to leave my car over a second night because they didn`t get to it the first day - even with an appointment! Too many mechanics work on one car so they never know your history and why you are bringing it back. This leads to double billing because they just repeat the work of the other mechanic. When you try to talk about the issues of your car and bill, Jay will not call you back, Ever. They rarely call to report on the status of the car - you must call them and they don`t always answer the phone. Horrible place. Avoid it at all cost.

Very Respected Garage Came Highly Recommended from Many Sources. They said they were familiar with my car make and model and particulars. (Old Diesel Mercedes.) It had one of the most common problems of Diesels. The car was not fixed when I picked it up and it started to die on the way home. I was surprised they wouldn`t return my phone calls. They said they did extensive diagnostics on the car, but it sure did... view moren`t seem like it. I ended up using some bike tools to run the most basic of diagnostics and found the problem immediately. I am not a mechanic but the problem was crazy obvious (Loose Fuel Filter.) I was really hoping to avoid being forced to do it myself. It turned out not to be a $400 job by any means. I disputed most of the charges on the credit card without incident, as they wouldn`t return my repeated phone calls to talk about it and it really seemed to me that they didn`t know what they were doing. Too bad they didn`t live up to all the positive things I`ve heard about them. I would recommend against using this garage for repairs.

I used to use Jay`s Garage for many things because it was close to my old office. About two years ago I was quoted $500.00 for the labor and cost of replacing the distributor cap, rotor, coil, and main relay. When I came in to pick my car up, they tried to charge me $587.00. I said to the person at the desk that I was quoted by Jay over the phone $500.00 and that I was not going to pay $587.00. Although I have found Jay`s Garage to have been helpful in emergency binds, I don`t think that outweighs being ripped off or being lied to. That`s why I can not recommend this auto repair business.

i recently moved to portland, and within about a month my alternator died. since i didn`t know any mechanics, i took the advice of the guy who towed my car and took it in to jay`s. after giving me an estimate of $350 to fix my alternator, they fixed it and gave me a new battery and charged me $650. it was obviously they knew they had me over a fence and took advantage. i would never go back again.
