experience and wisdom
I want to prefrence this by saying I very rarely find anyone that know more about the rear wheel drive Volvo`s than me I have been working on them for myself for over 30 years, and everytime I have run across something I can not figure out Neil can and does it almost instantaniously. If there is a part I can`t find for my favorite 78` 245 he has it or can fix my broken part. I have always found him to be honest and f... view moreair, and you can not stay in business as long as he has without being both. |urham is lucky to have a business like this.

very bad experience
LOOKOUT This place was recommended to me by a good customer of theirs from a few years back. Maybe they were good then but I took my car here because it was leaking oil. They charged me $2270 to fix it. The following week it was still leaking just as bad. Since we had trusted them, and for the money, it ended up running with the oil empty no doubt causing damage to the engine. I took it back and they said it would co... view morest me another 1000 but they would do me a favor and only charge me 880. They said it was something that could never have been forseen and the risk was never identified. I am now going to pay my lawyer in order to get any kind of compensation. I wish I had never gone here things are so much worse now and I am out lots of money with a broken car. email me at michaelwyoung@hotmail for more details

awesome service!
They took my Volvo right in, fixed the convertible roof quickly! Very impressed with their service AND their ""personal touch"". Would highly recommend Becker`s! (Thanks Frank!)

Just got back from Becker. No...
Just got back from Becker. Not happy. I have always been told to go to becker with my volvo so I did. Very knowledgeable about the car good conservative people love that but terrible communication. I needed ONE fuel injector was told that they would order it. took my car back to have the work done and was told that the cost would be $295(when they ordered the part) but when I called them back to check on the wo... view morerk I was told that the cost was $545. I was not told about the $250 increase. They told me that they tried to call me but phone rang 6 or 7 times and they got another call so he did not leave a message nor did he call me back to get my permission to do the work. So I get a $250 increase in my bill and I should be OK because they did not know that they can only buy a set of injectors not just one so they installed all five injectors. He did take a$100 off but I was also threaten that if I was not happy with that then my other chose was for him to take out the injectors and I can pick up the car tomorrow (in a very he is in control voice and manner) paid him the $447($100 off) told how close he was to getting a wiping. It is not about the money it is about customer service. He had two phone numbers one was my work the other my cell. Call me before you add $250 to my bill.

no BS. Honest work
If you own a Volvo, go to Becker. Honest, detailed, no funny business. In fact, if Mr. Becker can help you solve a problem over the phone, he`ll walk you through it and allow you to avoid bringing it in. I`ve been taking my Volvo to them for about 4 years.

Bad experiences are Unusual
Neil Becker has been servicing my old 240DL wagons for about 15 years. He is basically an expert and has never been anything but honest. He understands I`m not rich so he only does the work that is necessary. I have had 2 times in 15 yrs where I had to take the car back in because of a glitch. They aren`t magicians, they`re mechanics. If you`ve had a bad experience I assure you it isn`t typical. I realize how hard i... view moret is to find a trustworthy mechanic and how put off one can be if a first experience is a bad one but it is also hard to read these extremely negative reviews knowing what I know about dealing with this business. You don`t have to give it another chance but people need to know this isn`t typical. I`ve had my car towed from Richmond to his Durham shop for repairs after being seriously ripped off by 2 Volvo dealerships there. Another thing to consider, Volvo doesn`t make Volvos anymore. Maybe you bought a crappy car.

Not Impressed
Had to take our 1998 Volvo V70 Wagon in 5 times to get service done correctly. We had it towed to Becker`s on 3 separate occasions and over a 4 week period, we were able to drive our car a total of 5 days between services. All the service work was for the same problem - no fuel getting to the engine. I finally called our former mechanic in Ohio and a mechanic at an NC Volvo dealership to diagnose the problem. Bot... view moreh mechanics explained what should be done and I told Becker Automotive and only then was the problem corrected. In addition, each time I picked up the car, there were grease marks left around the hood, the door frames, and inside the car on the driver`s door panel. I also had to clean out an empty pop can left on the front floor. This company was recommended by a tow truck driver but after our experience we will never use Becker again, nor will we recommend it to anyone.

Never had any problems with Becker. Always get good service, decent prices.
Neil Becker has serviced my roommate`s Volvo 240 for the past 6 years. He and his staff work on Volvos almost exclusively and they know the little idiosyncrasies and problem areas in Volvos that it takes other mechanics hours and hours (i.e. MONEY) to diagnose. Neil is patient and helpful.

Chances are if you call the shop you`ll talk to Frank first. He`s a little grumpy and curt on the phone, but don`t let ... view morethat scare you off. In person, he`s a nice fellow he just doesn`t waste time with small talk.

I recommend Becker to volvo owners, particularly those with the older models that need frequent attention.

Typical sleezy auto shop
I have been bamboozled by this auto shop TWICE! On both occasions, I was told that my problem was one thing (and spent hundreds of dollars), only to have it break again shortly after and find out that my problem was really something else. On both occasions, the shop refused to refund my money. This last time, I had them ""fix"" my air conditioning. After two days, it was blowing only hot air again. When my husba... view morend went to complain, the mechanic`s response was: ""If it was working when you drove away from the shop, then we did what we were required to do."" They also told me that two of my 18-month old tires were worn down (highly unlikely in retrospect). Unless you are looking for an expensive, short-lived fix or unnecessary repairs, avoid Becker Automotive.

total bad experience
I took my 89 volvo 240 to this service center based on the reviews I read online. I will never go back! My car was running rough and stalling at red lights. I took my car there and the next morning I received a call saying it was fixed. They installed an air mass meter. Upon picking my car up I noticed that is was running the same. The bill was way over 400 dollars for the installation which was all of two bolts as ... view morewell as the ""new part"". I took the car back and they said it was a air intake gasket. Upon hearing this I took my car to another mechanic. The mechanic fixed my car for 80 dollars the pressure regulator had went bad. Th car ran perfectly. The thing that disturbed me most is that the mechanic who fixed my car told me that the air mass meter they installed was not new . It was used!! So I really got Hosed!!!
