Blatant Liars and Scammers
They did some brake work for me. Gave me the usual recommendations which i declined, and i scheduled to pick car up next day. They call the next day and say they cant finish the job unless i buy new calipers for another 500. Argue with them for a while and they offer to do it for 300. I say ill call u back. Call them back and say that i will take the car somewhere else, as is. Guy puts me on hold and comes back t... view moreo tell me they got it done without the additional work. They also promised me a 50$ rebate that wasnt even applicable. They also snuck in an inspection charge that they had already promised to remove. Chris was the guys name who did it. Mike was the manager supervising.

Ball joint lies...
I stopped by Firestone for a promotional oil change, and was not surprised when it came with a list of recommended, if not `urgent"" repairs. The left front ball joint needed to be replaced ""right away"" and the front sway bar link was also badly in need of repair. I have a family mechanic (who being both honest and low priced is a precious commodity) back in Albany, so since I was headed in that direction, I call... view moreed him to make an appointment to have these recommended repairs done. I was surprised when I went back to pick the car up from him to learn that there was nothing wrong with either part. Now this mechanic could have replaced both parts for me and made the money, but instead being an honest person he told me that the Firestone people LIED about needing work done on the car in order to scam me. Shameful. And this place is busy! There are a lot of people in there getting ripped off!

Liars and Rip-Off Artists
Let me preface this by saying that I am young, female, and don`t know a ton about cars... and Firestone absolutely tried to take advantage.

I went in for a cheapie oil change and ""free"" tire rotation (I had a coupon for both).

I never even got the tire rotation, as they told me I wasn`t ""due"" for one yet (nevermind that I`ve had the car for a year, put quite a few miles on it, and never had them rot... view moreated). Instead I was told that if I returned to Firestone for my NEXT oil change, I`d be ""due"" for rotation then.

While I was there, I asked the mechanic to look at my belts, as I thought one needed to be replaced.

He came out and quoted me $800 in additional repairs (claiming that I had a leak in my power steering pump and another one in the steering_rack, that they ""had to put a little pinhole in"" to check it, and that it ""shouldn`t have passed inspection"" in April). I had just taken the car on a road trip a week prior, had NO steering problems, and hadn`t noticed any leaks.

I also found it a little strange that after quoting me all of these repairs, the only one he would give me IN WRITING was the serpentine belt, saying that he couldn`t give me a written estimate on the rest because, ""I don`t have the exact prices."" The whole thing seemed suspicious.

So I took the car elsewhere (First Automotive) and had THEM replace the belt... When they were finished, I asked if they had seen any leaks, and was told, ""There is absolutely nothing leaking, your car is fine. The mechanic who worked on it is very thorough. It was just the belt.""

So basically, Firestone flat-out lied and tried to take me for $800. And the person I dealt with there was the MANAGER. Please don`t give these scam artists any more business.

Where The Robber Meets The Road
An old Firestone jingle once proclaimed ""Where the rubber meets the road!"" Firestone was a tire store and only sold and serviced tires. I was too young to own a car at the time, but tires were Firestone`s trademark. Nowadays Firestone is practically a full service automotive shop, and seems to be a full service rip-off. You know the type, you read an ad for the repair you want at an affordable price that tends to g... view moreet overblown for complications that their ace mechanics discover. Of course the ad says in fine print that prices may vary. Yes a basic brake service that probably would have cost a little over $150 ends up getting a $920 estimate! Now comes the good part. Even if you don`t want the work done, you still have to pay $20 for the estimate. If it`s not a FREE estimate, Firestone makes money off the poor shmucks who just wanted the repair in the ad. Truly Firestone applies the old PT Barnum theory of one born every minute to stay in business. I will never patronize Firestone again and just as soon walk rather than having to put with their rip-off, a-hem, mechanics!
