Consumer Fraud ALERT!

In February, 2010, I reserved a Budget truck (via phone) for June 4 in Schererville, IN. At pickup ?ˆ?George?ˆ?, the owner, and his assistant reviewed my account with me. They both verbally stated my bill was $1437.00. Everyone in my group heard this verbal exchange.

I gave ?ˆ?George?ˆ? $1440.00 in cash. He gave me a paper to sign, with just the signature part showing. After I signed, he shuffled the remaining ... view morepapers and then handed them back to me, showing a total of $1124.34. When I asked about the difference in price and payment, he stated, ?ˆ?I always take my cut off the top first, otherwise I don?ˆ™t get it. It?ˆ™ll be our little secret, ok? Don?ˆ™t tell anyone.?ˆ? Since I was preoccupied with the long journey, I shrugged it off, assuming it was a standard Budget practice.

Apparently not -- I returned the truck to A1-U-Store-It, at 4632 S. Lamar Blvd, on June 9. Mr. Matthew Rincon, manager, informed me his computer records indicated that my account was ?ˆ?modified?ˆ? by Julie?ˆ™s Auto Sales, after I left. I relayed what happened and Mr. Rincon instructed me to contact the Budget Consumer Department.

Afterwards, I telephoned ?ˆ?George?ˆ? at Julie?ˆ™s Auto Sales and said he swindled me out of $313.00, he replied, ?ˆ?Did you or did you not sign a receipt??ˆ?

Yes, unfortunately, I did sign. One wonders how many other people ?ˆ?George?ˆ? and his assistant tricked out of their money? With this review, I hope to end their vicious cycle of consumer theft and fraud in the NW Indiana area.

Also, he rented me a truck with broken left tail lights on both the truck and the tow dolly!
