When a used car salesman is reluctant to show you the Carfax report on a car he`s trying to sell, go ahead and assume he`s hiding something. These guys gave me the runaround about the Carfax when I test drove a car that looked to be an awesome deal. That should`ve been my first clue that their ad claiming that all their cars have clean titles might be a load of BS. Then (after a little more runaround) they gave m... view moree a ""summary"" of the Carfax over the phone that conveniently left out some very important information--information that would`ve kept me from bothering to test drive the thing if I`d had it earlier. (They get two stars rather than one for not straight-up lying to me, though I think it`s a sad, sad state of affairs when that`s worth two stars.) Luckily I ran my own Carfax rather than trusting them. Again, if they`re reluctant, they`re probably hiding something. In this case, it was the fact that the car had been leased, then listed as a fleet vehicle, and had then gone completely off the radar for the past three years. Me: ""Um, according to the Carfax report, it looks like no one owned this car for the last three years....isn`t that kind of suspicious?"" Them: ""We think that`s a mistake."" Me: ""But you can`t tell me where it`s been or what it`s been used for or anything else about what`s happened to it for the past three years."" Them: ""No."" YIKES. Hey, maybe it`s a perfectly wonderful car and everyone who leased/rented/owned it on the DL treated it like it was their baby. But I`d be really effin` surprised.
