1987 Porsche 924S
Bought new In Dallas in 1987 and has been a Texas car from Day 1... Short history: Was a 1 owner from new until about 2009...Then it was sold to a local gentleman who parked it. I bough the car from him a few months ago. The "Poor man's Porsche"...The 924S, with the same 2.5L engine as the 944! I don't know how many people have asked me if I "Autocross" in my Porsche...From my reserach the 924S is highly sought out for autocross racing, it's handling and gearing is legend for that type of competition. GOOD: FU FU FUN TO DRIVE! ALL ORIGINAL, the only custom touches are the K&N filter and the speaker covers. Original "Phone dial" wheels! Handles like a dream...shifts sweet through all 5 gears and keeps climbing. Driving the 924 is great...the 924S is super great. 80s icon. I've been driving the car regularly for about 3 months now and have had no problems and have been amazed by the handling and mileage of this 87 model! BAD: The rear hatch seal is old and has some spots where water will leak. Motor mounts are the original ones and will need replacing soon. The rear hatch vinyl cover, that covers belonging in the rear hatch area, is inoperable...It operates much like a window blind. I have the shade/cover, it is just not installed now. The tires has a bit of weather cracking. There are the normal amount of rock chip spots on the front for an '87 model...easily covered up. Since I bought the car, I've: Replaced rear brakes. Flushed and replaced brake fluid. Charged AC compressor. Had timing belt checked and adjusted (passed) Had wear torn front 2 seats repaired with new vinyl/foam/stictching. Replaced front 2 speakers (have rear 2 speakers but they are not installed yet...they come with the car) Replaced shocks/hinges on hatch. Replaced shock/hinges on hood. Replaced all exterior lightbulbs. Had interior carpet/seats/dash detailed. Still have plans to install the rear speakers and tint the windows. The car is listed locally and I may end this auction if it sells. |

Porsche tells 2014 911 GT3 owners to park their cars pending inspection
Thu, 20 Feb 2014Porsche may have have a serious problem on its hands. After a rumored five 2014 911 GT3 coupes caught fire in recent weeks, Porsche launched an investigation and stopped delivering its road-ready racecar until it could diagnose the problem. Now, it has issued a press release asking all 2014 911 GT3 owners to immediately stop driving their cars until they can be inspected. Porsche is offering to pick up the cars from owners' homes and take them to the nearest dealer.
Porsche confirms that the at least two 911 GT3 coupes them have caught fire in Europe, and it has elected to inspect all 785 2014 GT3s worldwide. However, it claims no drivers have been injured in the fires. Unfortunately, Porsche says, "Internal studies to determine the cause of the engine damage have not been completed yet," so owners might have a bit of a wait before they are able to drive Porsche's ultimate 911 again. MotorWeek proves '90s were awesome with Supra, Stealth, RX-7, Corvette, 968, 300ZX comparo
Thu, 24 Jul 2014Oh, the heady days of 1993, back when the Clinton Presidency was just getting underway, and it seemed like every hot new rock band was coming out of Seattle. Sports cars in the US had finally shaken off the shackles that slowed them during the '70s and '80s, and you could buy any number of legitimately quick vehicles again. MotorWeek recently went digging into its archives to find this six-model test from 1993 showing off some of the best semi-affordable performance coupes that money could buy at the time, and it's priceless.
Featuring the 1994 model year Toyota Supra in twin-turbo guise and MY 1993 versions of the Porsche 968, Nissan 300ZX TT, Mazda RX-7, Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo and Chevrolet Corvette LT-1, MotorWeek definitely covered all of the bases. One thing that might surprise younger readers is these cars' performance. The video only provides 0-60 acceleration times, but several of these vehicles would still be considered pretty potent today - over 20 years since going on sale. The Supra is especially impressive, hitting 60 miles per hour in just 5 seconds. Even today, that's nothing to sneeze at.
Given their performance potential and still-attractive looks, it's amazing that some of these coupes are old enough to drink now. The progress of interior design and safety equipment in the intervening years is pretty shocking, though. In most of these models, having two airbags is touted as a big deal. Scroll down to watch a Throwback Thursday blast from the past about some of the '90s best sports cars.
Mark Webber gets early clearance for Porsche departure
Thu, 28 Nov 2013If there's no rest for the wicked, there's surely even less rest for the wickedly fast. And make no mistake about it, Mark Webber is wickedly fast. He may not have proven able (or given the opportunity, depending on who you ask) to emerge from Sebastian Vettel's shadow after six seasons partnered with the multiple world champion at Red Bull Racing, but he's still won nine Formula One grands prix, to say nothing of the sports car races he won with Mercedes in the late 90s. But now he's leaving F1 to anchor Porsche's new LMP1 program, and according to the latest reports, he's departing Red Bull for Porsche sooner than expected.
Typically an F1 driver is obliged to stay with his team until the end of the calendar year - not just the end of the racing season - helping out with things like promotional events and fine-tuning next year's car. But news.com.au reports that Red Bull has given him early leave, so once the racing action in Brazil is done on Sunday, he's departing straight for Porsche's racing headquarters in Wiessach, Germany.
It won't be Webber's first visit to the facility, having already swung by to have his new seat fitted. But his early arrival will undoubtedly help him and Porsche get up and running ahead of schedule. The move may have been facilitated by a new sponsorship deal that could see Webber carry Red Bull with him to Le Mans, so don't be too surprised to see the energy drink company's logo on the side of the new Porsche once the new racing season gets under way next year, whether in concert with or instead of the anticipated revival of the Martini Racing livery.
