You're looking at a 1987 Porsche 924S, with a 2.5L four cylinder engine, 5 speed transmission, 135,xxx miles on the odometer and lots of love left to give to a capable, mature driver.

Without being a museum piece, this is an impressively nice example of a sports car from one of the world's premier builders of the breed. The car is in solid mechanical condition; these cars are often available cheaply, in need of either timing belt or clutch service. This car had the timing belt replaced at 117,xxx miles and the clutch replaced at 133,xxx miles. The power windows and rare Saratoga glass top open and close smoothly, the rear hatch opens up all on it's own, and the engine pulls smoothly past 6K, where you'll realize that a "driver's car" doesn't need 8 cylinders or forced induction to deliver the satisfaction, balance and dynamic response of a well balanced, low-slung coupe.

Take note: this car is 26 years old, is not in showroom condition. In the interest of honesty, here are all the issues and problems with the car that I can think of mentioning.
-The nose of the vehicle has some paint chips, accumulated over it's mileage. No evidence of a wreck or crash, but I've included a picture for reference.
-The passenger side door makes a small clicking sound audible over bumps and pavement imperfections. This goes away when the window is adjusted up and down.
-The trunk carpet has some wear in the middle, but is not torn. One of the insulating pads under the carpet flaps that cover the tool chubby behind the rear fenders are missing.
-The brakes, while exceptionally strong with about 50% pad life remaining, have some glazing and can be felt pulsing gently under light braking. This does NOT prevent the brakes from working, but it is noticeable to the discerning driver.
-The dash pad has 5 noticeable cracks in it, none wider than 1/8" but present. Again, a picture is included to show this.
-The A/C blows cool, but not cold. If this is an issue that prevents the car from being sold, I'll have it serviced and re-list the car.
-The front seats have splits on both sides of the center piece of cloth, but the foam and the cloth itself is in great shape otherwise.

eBay Find of the Day: 1981 Porsche 928 convertible by Carelli

The Porsche 928 was perhaps the consummate European GT of its day. With a powerful front-mounted V8 engine that grew in displacement as the model years went on, it was capable of eating up the miles at triple-digit speeds in great comfort for occupants. It was also an unusual beauty, with its sharp front and curved rear featuring innovative integrated bumpers.
Currently for auction on eBay Motors is one of the rarest 928s you're likely to find, in a handsome combination of Guards Red paint and tan leather interior, though we wouldn't mind a less-showy finish to the factory wheels. According to the seller, this car is one of eight 928 convertibles by Carelli Design, a firm that's still in business.
The auction claims that these cars were made in 1981 as a feasibility study between Carelli and Porsche for a possible production 928 convertible. The seller says he worked at the dealership where the car is said to have been originally sold $103,000. To remove the roof and hide the convertible top, there were significant changes made to the body and interior, including redesigned doors and a completely new trunk. As you can see in the gallery, when down, the top is completely hidden in a very factory-like fashion. When up, it looks slightly awkward, though (and we'd really like to see a rear three-quarter view to check out the blind spots).

Porsche 918 Spyder to birth stretched 2+2 version?

Porsche is known for its ability to spin off a litter of variants from a single model, and according to a report in Automobile the 918 Spyder (pictured here) might not be spared the house trick. Having taken too many brains and too much money for too much time, company chiefs are said to be examining ways to get more for their development euro out of the supercar, and Plan A is apparently otherwise known as Plan 984. That would be a four-seater, rear-wheel drive supercar that uses a stretched mold of the 918's carbon fiber tub, keeping the V8 in the same mid-mounted place and costing around 350,000 euro.
That would be less than half the MSRP of its inspiration, but the details don't sketch out a car that's just half as good. Automobile speculates it would get something like 700 horsepower in order to best the coming 911 GT2, and about 440 pound-feet of torque. The 984 is quite a ways short of being confirmed; even though a full-size study is said to exist, it's like the 918 would need to become a bigger sales hit for the 984 to happen.
The 984's fortunes don't change those of the 960, the supercoupe Porsche is building to challenge Ferrari. Its potential specs haven't changed since the last report in January, power coming from a 5.0-liter, twin-turbo, eight-cylinder boxer engine with something like 650 hp pushing a curb weight of roughly 3,100 pounds. The means a suspected 0-to-60 mile-per-hour time of 2.5 seconds.

China bans military license plates on luxury autos

Driving a vehicle with a military license plate in China provides many privileges. Legally reserved for official vehicles only, the designation apparently allows drivers to enjoy special liberties on the roads, including breaking traffic laws, filling up with free fuel and receiving light-and-siren escorts through congested cities. So attractive are the benefits that there is a secondary market for used legal and counterfeit plates - especially among those wealthy enough to afford luxury cars. But all of that is reportedly coming to an end, as President Xi Jinping, chairman of the Central Military Commission, is on a mission to fight corruption in his country.
A new license plate system goes into effect today, and it is designed to "maintain social harmony, stability and the reputation of the military," says the PLA Daily, the armed forces' official newspaper. While the abuse has been going on for many years, the internet has put the spotlight on the bad behavior, and the negative press does not represent the morals and true colors of the armed forces, say officials.
While military-plated Porsche drivers have been singled out as offenders, Bloomberg notes that all vehicles with engine displacements above 3.0 liters and with a sticker price in excess of about $73,000, will be banned from receiving military plates. This includes vehicles from Audi, Cadillac, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln and the Volkswagen Phaeton. Even if drivers are savvy enough to circumvent the new issuing system, the military has put technology at toll gates to catch users of counterfeit plates. There has been no word on the punishment if caught.
