Original West Coast car. Never messed with. Nothing added, nothing taken away. Original AM radio. No speakers cut into the door panels or kick panels. Seats have been covered since new as well. Rear is in factory clear textured vinyl seatcovers, and front in customized fiber covers. I have gone through this car and find very little negative to report. There is some surface rust on one of the rear fenders - but it is minor. There are 3 small cracks in the front windshield. The front "Plymouth" emblem is missing its last three letters. Some tiny spots here and there are missing from the original Aztec Gold paint. These are all easily corrected. I cannot report anything else wrong with this car!

When I got it from my uncle last February, it had a number of mechanical needs. So I took care of them.
5 new Hankook long-life tires in the correct size.
New master cylinder.
New water pump. New timing chain and timing gear, too - since when the water pump came off, I saw a great opportunity to make this engine good for another 38 years. The original plastic gear and chains have been replaced with heavy duty steel parts.
New front shocks.
New valve cover gaskets.
New exhaust gaskets! This is a special care item nobody takes care of - but I did. This engine is quiet... at idle, you'd scarcely know it was running.
New transmission pan gasket. Amsoil synthetic ATF and Amsoil full synthetic motor oil, with fresh filters on both transmission and engine.
New fuel pump.
New fuel sending unit.
New heater valve.
New coolant hoses and heater hoses.
New brake pads and shoes - I used Raybestos which I believe are the best. She brakes as quietly as she runs.
New muffler and new resonator - done under warranty from the original replacement dating back to 1988.
This automobile runs flawlessly. I have driven her about 200 miles while finding anything wrong worth repairing - so you won't have to. She needs nothing. Seats are flawless - while you cannot see all the detail in the pics, I ran my hand across them underneath the front seat covers - they are as new. My uncle was fastidious about this car. What might have been a throwaway car for some was his pride and joy, and as such, he cared for her the way some might care for their first Cadillac - or Rolls.
She really has not seen the road much in the last 7 years, but is anxious to drive, and drive she does.
What she really needs is to find someone who will appreciate her unmolested originality and incredibly well-preserved condition. Perhaps that's you?
Furys are getting hard to find. Most have been scrapped and sent to China for their steel. This car, in particular, is very rare indeed. With few factory options, she was never anyone's target for preservation. Therefore, cars like this are bound to become increasingly hard to find in the future. We all know the collector's mantra - "What people throw away is what becomes valuable".

Finally, this is an incredibly well-documented car. I did recover the correct build sheet at the seat bottom. Also, I have copious repair receipts. I even have the original title and original warranty! Currently registered to my uncle- the original owner.
If you're looking for a car that looks great, makes you look great too, and is a great summer ride or a great addition to your collection of 1970s classic rides, you won't want to pass this by.
I am able to show this car throughout the auction period - she is garaged at my residence in San Francisco's Richmond district. Come take a look if you like, or write me if you'd like to discuss this car. I specialize in Plymouth Furys as my feedback will tell you, and I am real proud to offer this car.
Happy bidding and good luck.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

Sat, 18 Jan 2014

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. See it yourself in our high-res image gallery above, and scroll down below for the official auction description.
