1986 Classic Mini

Here is one of five classic mini's that I imported about two years ago from the UK.  Two have been sold and this is the last one.  I'm keeping the other two.  The only reason that I picked these particular Mini's to sell is because one that I'm keeping is a bare shell now and the other is an automatic trans with A/C.  This particular mini has a 1275cc engine out of an early 1990's Mini with the SPI engine.  This is not a fuel injected Mini. She, Teresa, has been fitted with a 1 3/4 HIF44 SU Carb.  I live outside of Seattle, about 85 miles NW and have driven her to Portland twice.  Runs great.  The fastest I had her up to was 85MPH.  She wanted to go faster but the State Patrol in this state doesn't have much of a sense of humor so I had to back down to 75. The fiberglass kit that surrounds her I believe is what is referred to as a Zemec kit in England.  It is such a clean job that you would think she came from the factory this way.  She does have one small crack in the fiberglass which I have tried to show in the photos.  As the pictures show, she does not have her original seats but they are adjustable and she doesn't have a rear seat.  Rear seats are sold new from 7ent.com, a big classic mini parts supplier in California.  A couple of items do not work.  The speedometer cable is broken.   I know that for a fact because I can pull it out. I use my GPS as a speedometer. The tach isn't accurate  I was told that it is inaccurate because of the engine swap.  The engine was designed as a fuel injected and now she isn't.  And the clock doesn't work.  She came without a radio and she still doesn't have one.  She has a roof antenna with the cable running to the radio cutout.   The UK title shows her color as silver, but I'm guessing that she has been repainted as the paint job looks really good.  The headliner has also probably been redone.  Looks great in its jet black, felt like finish.  No cuts or tears.  The interior is flawless. The carpet and seats are also in really great shape.  Teresa has had a number of upgrades since I got her.  Two items are the Pertronix Ignitor II distributor replaced the stock distributor and she was fitted with a Flame Thrower HV High Voltage Coil.  Their are numerous other upgrades and are shown on copies of the invoices from Jet Motors.  Jet Motors deal exclusively with Classic Mini's.  The only two items that I can think of where I don't have copies of the invoice is the clutch master cylinder rubber hose was replaced with  a braided stainless steel one and the HIF44 Carb was completely rebuilt by SUcarb.com  Actual mileage listed may be higher because I do drive her.  Listing may end early because she is listed locally.  $100.00 Paypal non refundable deposit due within 24 hours.  Balance must be paid for by wire transfer or certified check within 72 hours.  I will consider a REASONABLE offer.  Just email if you are a serious buyer.  Clear WA State title in my name.  If your in the area, your more than welcome to take her for a drive.  The Buy it Now price is less than what the car cost me,   Cost involved were the cost of Teresa, having the car picked up from the purchase location and delivered to the Southampton docks, the cost of the boat, all the custom fees, the broker to handle the mountain of paperwork, Tacoma dock fees, the cost to have her transported from Tacoma to Port Angeles, and finally all the cost to have her registered here in WA state.

Thank you for looking.

Mini interns turn Paceman into Adventure pickup

Thu, 24 Apr 2014

With coupes and convertibles, hatchbacks and crossovers, Mini has done just about every bodystyle we could think of, and then a few more as concepts. But it hasn't done a pickup. At least it hadn't until now.
What we have here is a Mini Paceman (that, of course, being the coupe version of the Countryman) which has been transformed into a pickup by a group of BMW interns. It's called the Mini Paceman Adventure, and it's currently on display at the Mini dealership in Munich. According to BimmerToday.de, the project involved not only chopping the roof and installing a makeshift pickup bed, but also reinforcing the body, reforming the underbody and B-pillar, fitting off-road tires (including a spare fitted to a roof rack) and a handful of other minor modifications.
The photos are a little sketchy (although the dealership tells us a better set will be available soon), but from what we can see, it looks like a pretty solid project - one that makes us wonder if the apprentices' bosses might be paying attention. Because next to the Mini Coupe with its oddball backwards-hat roof treatment, this one-off looks as sensible as you'd expect from a group of German interns.

Mini knows how you take your coffee after a test drive

Thu, 11 Oct 2012

Mini Netherlands wanted to give its countrymen a good reason to test drive its cars, so it threw in a free cup of coffee with the spin - but not just any old cuppa joe. Cars were fitted with a sensor that analyzed the driver's style. The chip was then placed in a special coffeemaker that produced a blend to match the driving; middle-of-the-road test pilots would get a lungo (long) coffee, test-the-rollcage types were given a ristretto (short, and stronger).
The knock on the head for U.S. drivers? Milquetoast test drivers were given an Americano - a watered-down espresso. You can watch the unique promotion at work in the video below.

Mini may have overexpanded, some models may not be replaced

Fri, 05 Apr 2013

Surprise, surprise. According to Edmunds, Mini may be looking to reduce the number of vehicles in its range, which has recently expanded to include a total of seven offerings (not to mention the copious varieties of configurations found within each line). When Mini relaunched in the early 2000s, it did so with one model, the Cooper Hardtop, and has since added the Convertible, Clubman, Countryman, Coupe, Roadster and Paceman. It looks like those ambitions of expanding the range to include up to 10 models may have been a bit optimistic.
"When we start to replace models, I think you will see that we won't replace every model exactly," Jim McDowell, Vice President of Mini USA, told Edmunds in an interview. The brand's core models right now are the Hardtop and Countryman, and of the roughly 66,200 vehicles that Mini sold in the United States last year, these two vehicles accounted for some 75 percent of total sales.
McDowell declined to mention any specific models that may not be replaced in the lineup's next generation, though our best guess is that ultra-niche vehicles like the Coupe (pictured) or Clubman. As for replacing some of the current models with new products, the only clear gap we can see in the brand's lineup is a smaller car like the Rocketman concept, though we've been told several times that a mini-Mini isn't going to happen. Be sure to let us know what Mini models you'd like to see kept or axed in Comments below.
