This truck runs and drives nicely.  More than $55,000 was spent, not counting my time in building it and it is a real head turner.  It has won awards at every show it has been to, including several best of show.  It was built as a cruiser and the 6 cylinder is a work horse that runs about 2200 rpm at 70 mph.  It has a lot of torque and will get you from light to light quickly, but it will not do burnouts like a pro-street rod.  I suppose the 6 could be swapped out for a SMC, but the 6 is way cooler and not just like every other truck out there.  Chevy ran this motor in trucks for almost 30 years so you know they work right.  It has only been driven from May through October, not in any salt.

The bad: It will spin the tires some, but it won’t do crazy burnouts. There are a few tiny (1/8” to 1/4 ”) rock chips that have been touched up on the lower valances, grill, and tailgate edge.  There are two rub marks on the radiator support cover that have been touched up. Because the manifold is water heated and it has an electric choke, it takes a few minutes to warm up. If you let the battery go dead, the wireless remote actuator for the tonneau cover lift has to be reset (not hard to do, just a nusance), but if you keep a battery maintainer on it that won’t happen.  It is ready for cruise control, but doesn’t have it.  It has a new wiper motor system, but we just used RainEx and didn’t install wipers.  The cab is pretty air tight and the doors have to be closed firmly if the windows are shut. Air vents could be installed in the step area to allow air to escape, but we never did that.  The windshield has a very small rock chip (not a crack and not all the way through) that was repaired two months after the project was completed and it has not changed since then.  These are all minor things that should not detract from the value.

I wouldn’t be offering it for sale now, but we’ve enjoyed it for four years and 16,500 miles and now we’re wanting to make room for another project.   You should be prepared for a lot of “Thumbs up” when driving this!!!

I've had to respond to many questions regarding trades and a "Buy it Now" price.

So, NO TRADES and the reserve is set at the bargain price of $29,950.00 even though we'd expect it to go much higher than that, but it will have to go to the end of the auction to buy it.

If it doesn't sell on this auction we will keep it, so don't assume we'll offer any second chances.  This is a great truck that is a blast to drive and we'll hang onto it rather than take less than it's worth.

The above CL links no longer work.  This one has just been put up with some other photos to look at.  If it quits working let me know and I'll email photos if you leave an email.  I don't thinnk I can attach them to a  reply on ebay however.

Kurt Busch to shake and bake (again) in Ricky Bobby car at Talladega

Sat, 19 Oct 2013

Kurt Busch will channel Ricky Bobby for another NASCAR race, this time driving a Wonder-sponsored Chevrolet SS, in this weekend's Camping World RV Sales 500 at the Talladega Motor Speedway. Unlike past tie-ins, though, there's actually an element of sponsorship here (the "Me" car was done when Busch was running on a team without sponsorship).
It was arranged by Flower Foods, the new owner of the Wonder brand. Wonder was part of the bankrupt Hostess company, which temporarily exited the US market 2012, and set off the Great Twinkie Shortage.
Busch has made something of a habit of channeling characters from famous racing movies, most recently running Tom Cruise's City Chevrolet livery from Days of Thunder in a Nationwide Series race earlier this year. Busch kicked off his movie-inspired antics, though, at Talladega in 2012, when he raced El Diablo's ("It's like... Spanish for like a fighting chicken") "Me" car complete with a cougar on the hood. He even went so far as to channel the lovable idiot that is Ricky Bobby during the race, dropping a few catchphrases about macchiatos and slingshots.

Veyron and C7 Corvette join cast of Transformers 4

Wed, 29 May 2013

Like the Fast & Furious franchise, the Michael Bay-directed series of Transformers movies has become known as much for its bad acting as its impressive lineup of cars. As filming just started for Transformers 4, Bay's website has confirmed two new cars for the next installment as well as a makeover for everyone's favorite tractor trailer hero, Optimus Prime.
Joining the cast of T4 are a "race-inspired" Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. While Bay's website did not supply names for either car, Bugatti is reporting on its Facebook page that the Veyron will join the Autobots. Speaking of the good guys, top Autobot Optimus Prime is getting an all-new body based on a Western Star with a gaudy appearance that was seemingly inspired by Trick My Truck - right down to the six smoke stacks and side pipes!

Watch NASCAR racer Jeff Gordon put one over on a used car dealer... sorta

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

Full Disclosure: in my younger days, I loved nothing more than tormenting passengers with my behind-the-wheel hijinks. Once, after a particularly artful handbrake turn on a two-lane at around 50 miles per hour, I left one backseat occupant crying in their own lap. This isn't necessarily something to be proud of, but it gives you a glimpse into why it is that I find this ad from Pepsi so damn disappointing. The premise is beautiful. Take NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon, give him a disguise and set him loose upon some unsuspecting used car dealer. Hilarity ensues.
Except that this Pepsi Max commercial is so obviously staged, it can't help but feel like some ham-fisted marketing fail. From the strategically placed aftermarket cupholder mounted mid-dash for the hidden camera to the fact that the supposed dealer Camaro is displayed as a 2009 model (Hint: Chevrolet didn't make any), this clip is about as organic as a Twinkie. Still, we would never turn down a chance to watch Gordon thrash on a rental-spec coupe - only problem is, he probably didn't even do the driving himself. Check it out below.
