Vehicle Description

The Lincoln Continental was based off the striking one-off convertible that Eugene T. “Bob” Gregorie was based off the Lincoln Zephyr blue prints with changes to the long front hood to carry the flat 12 engine. The new Continental was so elegant and carried a European flair with beautiful chrome work and sweeping lines that the New York Museum of Modern Art displayed a 1941 Lincoln Continental in their “8 Automobiles” exhibit in 1951. After World War II Lincoln and Mercury resumed civilian automobile production on November 1, 1945 and introduced updates to the already existing Continental. The Continental was a very exclusive automobile and only 466 Continentals were produced for model year 1946 with only 201 of them being convertibles. Sitting at the top of the Ford production range at a cost of $4,474 in 1946, was one of the most expensive automobiles of its time. Continentals of the immediate post war era are fully recognized as Full Classics by the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA).

European Motor Studio is proud to offer this stunning 1946 Lincoln Continental Convertible finished in a stunning and very rich Burgundy over a dark tan interior with a matching dark tan convertible top and matching boot. This Continental is believed to have traveled a mere 53,494 miles from brand new and has benefited from a total ground up restoration in the early 1990’s. The car came out of a very long term Rosenblatt Collection in Ohio and was sold at the Christies Pebble Beach Auction in 1997 when the car was taken to southern California ever since European Motor Studio acquired the car in late 2013. The car is believed to have either two or three owner since new and underwent a complete bare metal strip down and repainted in its original lacquer Burgundy color in 1999/2000. The Continental has benefitted from proper storage and proper maintenance all of its life and is evident in the presentation of the car. The paint has held up extremely well and still looks beautiful today. All of the panels are very glossy with a rich color and free from any sun fade or damage. There are a few tiny stone chips here and there on the car but still shows beautifully. There are no signs of any previous damage and absolutely zero rust on the car. All of the chrome had been done as part of the restoration in the early 1990’s and still looks beautiful today showing only minimal signs of age on some pieces. The convertible top is brand new and looks stunning along with its new matching boot. The tires are correct white walls for the car and have about 70% tread life left. The interior looks stunning and shows almost no signs of wear; the leather is soft and supple and retains a beautiful rich color. The carpets all look to be in excellent condition showing almost no wear or any stains. All of the trim and chrome on the interior are in excellent condition showing minimal wear. All of the power features on the car are in proper working order. The power windows are still operating as designed and the power convertible top goes up and down as it should with ease and the exterior and interior lights are working and operating as designed. Even the original spot light is present and in working order. This Continental features its original and desirable 292 cubic-inch 120 horse powered Series H V12 engine which runs and drives beautifully. It starts right up and idles smoothly and quietly. It accelerates beautifully and is free from any mechanical issues. The 3-speed column shift transmission is very smooth and easy to operate with an excellent clutch feel and free from any slipping or grinding. The brakes are in excellent condition and do not squeak or vibrate under load. This is a beautifully maintained Lincoln Continental that has been cared for and looked after it entire life. It comes with its original spare tire with its original “Continental kit”, the original owners manual from 1946, and the original rear wheel body colored covers.
