 Description

1963 1/2 GALAXIE

VIN: 3U66C176842

MILES: 78161 reading on the odometer, mileage is exempt and who realy knows.

HISTORY: I bought the car from a car restorer friend that lives in southern Ohio, not far over the Kentucky line. His favorite car is the 1963 1/2 Galaxie. He found the car at an estate sale near him. He bought it, took all the trim off and gave it a nice black paint job. He painted door jambs, trunk top and all lips and edges, he said the car was originally blue, but you can not tell it now.

HAS THE CAR EVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT: The title does not state it, I can find no bends or wrinkles in the frame. I think all the panels are original. I can not save if it has had a dent repaired or not in the past 50 years, if it did it was a good job.

IS THIS A RUSTY CAR: I consider it solid, it looks like it has all the original body panels including the floors panels. The floors look good with some very thin under coating, they could have had some minor repair, but it had to be same. The paint has no rust bubbles and no swelled places. The bottoms of the doors look solid but not as beautiful as the outside paint. The frame and a lot of the underside has never been painted or under coated so it is rusty color with some rusty scale, but it all looks very solid to me.

IS THIS A REAL GALAXIE XLT500? I will not say for sure, I am no expert on them. It looks like one to me, the car is 50 years old and guys change and do things so to be safe I will say come look the car over and decide for your self.

PAINT: Very straight to look down the side of the car, no dents, no dings, no rust bubbles. The paint has a brillant shine, it is base coat with the clear coat on top, it is buffed to a high gloss. I think you will be happy with the paint, the worst thing is see when I wash the car is some super ting specs down low. He did take all the trim off to paint the car and did paint the door jambs, all lips and the undersides of the hood and trunk.

INTERIOR: Don't it look good! The interior on this year Galaxie is one of my favorates. The seat covers are new, the carpet new, some handles new. The headliner is original and decent, the dash pad original and good, the door panels original and decent with a little of the bright trim worn.

CHROME: The bumpers are very nice, the chrome job was very good. The side trim is original and good, it has very minor dulling, no big dents, it has very minor scuffing. The grill is original and I think very nice, the headlight surounds are good with minor dings, the tail light housing do have some minor scuffing and a couple of dings. The door handles, fender spears and a couple of peices are original and good with minor dulling. The brightwork would be considered nice, but it is not show car perfect.

GLASS: Side glass in the door roll up and down good. The windshield looks new, the back window good with no milky spots, it does has very minor marks.

ENGINE: Its a good running 289 cubic inch that past owner thought was original to the car, but I don't know for sure. It has a new 4 barrell Holley carb and has no knoks or rattles. It still has the original 12 volt generator charging system.

TRANSMISSION: Its a 4 speed manual that has no grinding noise or no growels. The clutch and pressure plate feel good to me with no slip and no chatter. The shifter is OK after you learn it personality.

REAR-END: Its a 9 inch with no growls or whines, the ratio is a good highway gearing.

BRAKES: They are drums on all 4 corners and stop very good to me. My friend did put all 4 wheel cyclinders on and a couple of rubber hoses. He said the shoes were very good so he reused them. The car is not power assisted, but I think it stops good.

STEERING: I think the car drives good. It has no power steering, but steers easy enough for me, come drive it and decide for you self.

RADIO: The car does have a after market radio, it lights up, but does not work.

HEATER: All the parts are in place, I think it works, but to be honest it has been hot when I have drivin the car and I have not turned it on.

LIGHTS: The head lights work, the tail lights work, the turn signals work, the interior door lights work.

GAUGES: They work. The speedometer cable was bad so I have a new one ordered, the gas tank is a new one, but the old sending unit was used and it is bad, I have a new sending unit ordered. I hope they will be here tomorrow so they will be installed if you come look at the car.

EXHAUST SYSTEM: Old School glass pacs that I like the sound of on this car, the system has been converted to a dual system. Stock manifolds, the system is old and crusty, but still very usable.

UNDERSIDE: The frame and supports look very solid, the floors look original to me, they may have had a super minor repair, but it has to be small because there is no real thick under coating to hide it. The underside is ugly, a lot of it has never been painted so it has a rusty color with some minor surface rust. I consider the underside solid, come look and decide for your self. Bottom line on the underside, its just a old car that has never been sanded smooth and painted for show. If you want beautiful you will have to clean, sand and paint.

WHAT I THINK: I think this car is beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the paint is nice, I think the chrome is good, but not perfect. I think the interior is beautiful and good. I think it runs and drives good. I think if your looking for a perfect new car to haul to the show in a trailer and roll out and be perfect "this is not it". This is a very nice driver and its priced that way, if you want perfect this is not for you.

WHERE IS THE CAR LOCATED: At my garage in Athens, Tennessee 37303.
