1971 MERCEDES BENZ 280 SE 3.5 CABRIOLET

--White with Brown leather interior, Brown carpeting and Brown cloth top, 3.5 liter V-8 engine, Automatic transmission, Becker Radio, Power Windows, Behr factory air conditioning, 3-owner’s from new, most recent ownership from 2000-2013.

This 280 SE 3.5 Cabriolet was completed May 1, 1971.  It was delivered to Southern California and its first known owner Mr. J. Cavanaugh of Los Angeles.  Mr. Cavanaugh kept the 280 Cabriolet until August 1987 when it was purchased by the well-known restorer and restoration shop, Paul Russell of Paul Russell and Company, Essex, Massachusetts.  In December of 1987 it was sold on to Mr. D. Fischer of Pound Ridge, New York.   At that point in time, the 280 SE Cabriolet  had been driven only 52,356 miles from new.

Mr. D Fischer used and enjoyed this 280 SE Cab. for the next thirteen years all the while servicing it with Paul Russell and Company.   During this time anything and everything that was needed to keep this 280 SE Cab. in superb condition was attended to, both cosmetic and mechanical.  In 1997, the 280 was disassembled at Paul Russell and the body stripped to bare metal for a complete repaint in period-correct ivory with color-matching wheel covers.

In January 2000, Paul Russell and Company brokered the sale of this 280 SE Cab. from Mr. Fischer to its most recent caretaker/owner, a well-known California television executive .  It has remained in his care and for use at his Santa Barbara home.  In August 2010 he delivered the 280 SE Cab. to the Mercedes Benz Classic Center in Irvine, California.  At this time, it was completely restored by the MB Classic Center to as new condition, a 19 page repair invoice accompanies the car to show all mechanical and cosmetic work performed as well as the interior refurbishment that took place at the time.

Since the restoration, this 280 Cab. has been used and enjoyed for weekend use in Santa Barbara.  It has accumulated limited mileage since restoration and our purchase.  A thick file of service and repair receipts document the owner’s dedication to maintaining this 280 SE Cabriolet to the highest standard, regardless of cost.
