1970 Chevrolet Chevelle

History

The Chevrolet Chevelle was a mid-sized automobile produced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors in three generations for the 1964 through 1977 model years. Part of the GM A-Body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles include coupes, sedans, convertibles and station wagons. Super Sport versions were produced through the 1973 model year.  The Chevelle was intended to compete with the Ford Fairlane.

In 1970, sheetmetal revisions gave the bodies a more squared-up stance and interiors were redesigned, too. The 1970 Chevelle came in sport coupe, sport sedan, convertible, four-door sedan, a couple of wagons, and coupé utility (the El Camino) body styles.

The owner of this car recently moved from NY where they bought the car. They bought it about three years ago with the numbers matching 402 motor crated with it. The numbers matching engine was bought with the car along with other original components. According to her they engine is good but needs to be rebuilt. This was a special order car in Green with black interior and bucket seats. She claimed it was ordered by one of the Andretti’s but is not confirmed. The restoration is about 14 years old and looks awesome. They were not sure what panels were replaced but they think it is all original. It currently has a 396 with a 4 speed and electronic overdrive. They were not sure where the engine came from.

We do have the original numbers matching 402 but it has not been rebuilt.
