For sale is my 1981 Mercedes 300D Sedan.  Diesel, 4-speed manual transmission, white in color.  It is a European model.  Currently registered and my daily driver.  Imported from Europe--VIN:  WDB12313010251972.

The Good

This car is in mechanically excellent condition.  It has low miles—the Odometer reads 115k, but it stopped working two years ago.  My best estimate is it has 140k miles on it.  It has new tires, brake master cylinder, fuel and air filters and motor mounts.  It has two-tone (leather and cloth) upholstery.  It has a sun/moon roof that you pull back manually.  This is a classic car that will drive for hundreds of thousands of miles more.

The Bad

I don’t want any surprises here and so I’m going to list every little thing that’s wrong that I know of.  First, about six months ago I replaced the motor mounts because they were deteriorating. The mechanics that installed them misaligned something and now the radiator fan rubs the shroud, but only when you are braking heavily.  I haven’t had time to deal with it—it does not affect driving at all but it’s a little embarrassing because when you brake hard you can hear it pretty loudly.  I think you just need a mechanic to realign the engine mounts and you’ll be fine.

The instrument cluster lightbulb is out.  Everything on the cluster works except for the odometer.  The only thing other than cosmetic flaws is that the front suspension is squeaky (i.e., when you push the front of the car down, it squeaks).  It’s not noticeable driving. Original tape deck doesn't work, radio works okay.  Heat works and I assume the A/C doesn't--never tried it.

Interior Cosmetics-  The dash has cracks.  There is a small rip in the driver’s side seat.  I’ve posted pictures of everything below.

Exterior Cosmetics- There is clearcoat peeling on the hood.  To the left, under the rear window, there is a small patch of rust.  This is the only rust I know of.  There is a photo of it below.  Near the gas tank, there is some paint cracking.  It looks like how a really old painting cracks.  There is  dent in the rear fender.  There is a missing chrome trim piece.  Again, everything is pictured.

That’s all I can think of.  Feel free to ask any questions.  This car is being sold AS IS.  Local pickup only (Los Angeles).
