1955 Gypsy Red Bel Air Convertible To Be Restored

Up for auction is a 1955 2 tone Bel Air convertible that is Gypsy Red and India Ivory with red interior.  This is an ideal project Bel Air for the professional restorer or an experienced car hobbyist. Due to the fact our service business is booked up for the winter we have decided to sell the car.

We purchased the car from the owner who bought it in 1987.  The car was driven and then about 10 years ago was taken apart for restoration but never completed.

The body panels are period correct and in very good condition. The body was painted about 3 years ago, and looks excellent.  It is a 2 stage paint that was never color sanded it looks just like it did when it came out of the paint booth.

Look at the pictures, the paint quality and body speaks for itself.

The frame is very solid and in great condition with no signs of damage. The floorboards appear to be original and in very good condition. The pictures will also show the frame quality.

The engine is a 350 cubic inch 300HP which came out of a 1969 Corvette.  The cast number is 3932386.  The pad stamp is V1105HZ (350/300HP automatic transmission).  The VIN # on the pad is 19S707716 which is a Corvette VIN.

The engine is clean and may have been rebuilt but no further information is available.

The transmission is a GM turbo 400. It is probably the Corvette automatic trans that was original to the engine. The drive shaft has already been fitted to the rear axle. It looks clean on the outside but no further information is available.

The rear axle is in the car but no further information is available.

The interior is red and white all vinyl original style and the seats are in good condition.  The pictures show the quality of the seats and all of the components that come with the car.

The convertible top is white and will probably need replacement.  The top frame is in good condition, all of the hydraulics appear to be present but we are not sure about the condition of the top motor.

The pictures show all of the parts that come with the car. Some of the parts are new, some are rebuilt or refinished and some are original.  We know there are some missing parts but most of the major components are with the car. We will answer questions about any parts that come with the car as best as we can.

The car has a clean Illinois title in our Corvette Mike name which matches the VIN tag on the car.

The “Buy it Now” price of $32,990 represents an excellent value for this Bel Air convertible.
