The 1962 Ferrari GTO is considered, by many, to be one of the most desirable Ferrari's ever built. The crafting of this vehicle brought forth a new era of race car with its smooth flowing lines over an elongated nose and a blistering amount of power by measures of the time. Only 36 units were ever produced and the last example to be auctioned brought over $20M.

This vehicle is a tribute to the famed 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO and was built by Tom McBurnie of McBurnie Coachworks. More modern replicar enthusiasts might find McBurnie Coachworks under a new branding of Thunder Ranch. This vehicle is a 1975 Datsun 280z and registration documents show it to have been titled as a 1962 Ferrari.

In 1989 the vehicle registration showed this car to have only 445 miles. The vehicle was sold in 1991 with 1,183 miles and we have had it since the mid 90's; the odometer currently reads just over 3,600 miles.

This vehicle has spent much of it's time under our ownership on display in local museums or showrooms. When this vehicle underwent it's transformation,  the interior was modified to compliment the exterior build of the 1962 GTO as a further "original" touch. It is still equipped with the Datsun 2.8L engine but has an upgraded intake and carbeurator setup from Arizona Z Car. This provided better reliability over the factory setup.

The car can be driven as all components function properly; just as they should. However, you may hold this particular GTO Tribute in a higher regard. McBurnie and the vehicles produced by him during a certain period created quite a stir with the people at Ferrari. Ferrari sought litigation and in 1989 was successful in blocking the creation of these vehicles later halting production altogether

The two more notable models produced by McBurnie were used in Miami Vice, with the Daytona model, and a movie starring John Candy called Delirious. It was in Dilirious that the 250 GTO found it's limelight.

This is a rare build as a pre-89 GTO, but the signifigance of the creator and the history it holds sets it apart from a vast majority of the GTO tributes you will find on the market. The vehicle is ready for inspection and can be viewed upon appointment in Branson, MO.

Buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle. If you wish to have it shipped using a service, we will gladly cooperate. You can locate shippers by doing a search for `auto shippers`. We will be happy to work with you during transport or pickup of your vehicle. We can store your vehicle up to 10 business days from the end of the auction. Any day past the 10 days will result in a $20.00 per day storage fee that must be paid in full at the time of pickup.
