For 1964 the Thunderbird was restyled in favor of a more squared-off appearance, which was mostly evident when viewing the car from the side or rear. Hinting at its roots in the previous generation Thunderbird that it was evolved from, the new model retained a similar grille design with dual headlights and a 113.2 inches wheelbase. As before, the new Thunderbird continued to be offered in hardtop, convertible, and Landau versions. The 300 horsepower 390 cu in FE V8 continued as the standard engine for the Thunderbird while a higher compression, 330 horsepower version of the engine was optional. Both V8s were paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. For 1965, sequential turn signals were added, flashing the individual segments of the broad, horizontal tail lights in sequences from inside to outside to indicate a turn. Also new for 1965 were standard front disc brakes.

The car you see here is an incredibly original car that has never seen any kind of major restoration ever performed to it. Finished in its original colors of Diamond Blue Platinum with a Blue interior, the car has been well cared for all of its life. This is a “Z” code car with 390 Cu In V8 under the hood connected to the cruise –o-matic transmission and 3.00 rear axle.

The paint on the car is finished in the original color of Diamond Blue Platinum and is in very good overall condition . It appears that car has been repainted sometime in the past and still shows good today. There are a few scratches and dings as expected from an older paint job but still has a very good shine. The front and rear chrome is in good condition with no major pitting or scratches. The same goes for the stainless trim around the car.

Inside, the carpet is new and looks great. The seats appear to have been reupholstered in the front with no major wear showing. The rest of the interior appears to be all original and in very good original condition. There is some cracking to the dash as well as to the top of the steering wheel as you can see in the photos. There are a few very small holes in the headliner. All power windows work as well as the gauges.

Under the hood, the 390 Cu In V8 is very clean and runs great. It’s connected to the cruise-o-matic transmission. With the 3.00 rear axle, the car is a pleasure to drive on the highway. The steel wheels are covered with correct Thunderbird hubcaps that look great. Tires are older radials with good tread life left on them. In the trunk you will find the original style matting as well as the original spare tire. VIN number is 5Y83Z138848 and the mileage currently shows 99,970 which is believed to be original for the car.
