Although the standard-line 1955-1956 Chevrolet Series 3100 pickup wasn't in the class of the Chevrolet Cameo Carrier, it was more stylish than any that had gone before. Attitudes about trucks were changing fast in the 1950s. Lots of people used them for double-duty; cargo hauling and personal transportation. An eye-catching truck could also promote a merchant's services. The market for slick pickups was out there, and Chevrolet was one of the first to take advantage. Introduced in mid-model year, the new design for the 1955 Chevrolet Series 3100 pickup was revolutionary from the cab forward.

Inspired by passenger-car design, it had a wraparound windshield and eggcrate grille, and offered the option of Chevrolet's new 265-cubic-inch V-8, rated 145 horsepower under truck hoods. Jutting forward from the thoughtfully-shaped fender and door surfaces, the car-inspired sculptured headlamp visors helped to create a racy profile, which translated into high sales. The 1956 models were unchanged, although the side nameplate moved up above the fender crease and a new emblem adorned the hood.

The truck you see here is a custom ’56 Chevrolet 3100 “Big Back Window” truck that has been tastefully customized. The front emblems and hood ornament have been shaved and smoothed to give the truck a cleaner look which looks great. Both front and rear bumpers have been rechromed and show no pitting, scratches or dings anywhere. Inside of the bed has been sprayed with a spray on bed liner to make this truck usable and not strictly a work truck.

Inside, the bench seat has been recovered in black vinyl and looks great. No tears to the seat or notable spots of wear. There has been custom black carpet installed which is a nice touch with Chevrolet floor mats. Dash is solid along with the steering wheel which shows no cracking. Gauges, lights and aftermarket temperature gauge work with no problems.

Under the hood, you will find a 283 Cu In V8 that runs great. The motor has been upgraded with an Edelbrock carb, aluminum intake, chrome valve covers and headers going back to dual exhaust. Connected to the three speed manual transmission, the car drives great. The engine compartment is very clean with no damage.

This is a great driving custom truck that has been very tastefully restored and customized. Use the truck to drive to shows or for a cool work truck. VIN number is 3A56A019940 and the mileage currently shows 23,708.
