1954 Jaguar XK120 Convertible. ORIGINAL. 1-owner 40 years. See VIDEO

1954 Jaguar XK120 Convertible DHC.

This 1954 XK120 Drophead Coupe (Chassis #S678132 . Engine #F1906-8S ) was acquired by a prominent Northwest collector in the early 1970's. A specialist in low-mileage vehicles, he intended to perform a full restoration on this car, but over the years others in his collection took precedence (including his show-winning 1955 XK150 FHC.) He drove this XK120 sparingly through 1986 and then stored it in his climate-controlled showroom for the next 28 years. The owner's unexpected passing this past year has prompted the sale of this wonderful car.

Largely original, the car appears to be rust-free throughout. It received one lacquer re-paint at some time in the distant past, in a color similar to Jaguar Sherwood Green metallic. The paint still presents well on most areas of the car except for the trunk lid, where some cracking and flaking is noted. It is an honest patina. Chrome is original and presentable with normal wear noted. Please see photos. The upholstery appears to be original and presents well. All wood is present. This is a Drop Head (convertible) Coupe with roll-up windows in the doors. The chrome frames and glass are good. The top is a presentable original with a crack in the plastic rear window and some moth damage noted to the headliner. Spare wheel, original jack and hammer are in the trunk.

Recently, over $5,000 was spent with a Jaguar specialist shop to recommission this car for a return to the road. The brakes were completely rebuilt, engine and transmission examined, fluids changed, new period-correct bias-ply tires fitted, gas tank dropped and cleaned along with rebuilding of the carburetors, a full tune-up and a new battery. The car fired to life easily. It has been driven over 50 miles since the complete service and runs well. Please see video. All service receipts will be included.

It is a real step back in time to drive. I have personally driven this car over 30 miles in city traffic and on the freeway. It responds quickly, shifts through the gears easily, holds the road well and runs nicely. Good oil pressure. Brakes are adequate. All gauges work and register accurately with the exception of the tachometer, which does not register. Headlights, tail lights and brake lights work. The 37,000 miles showing on the odometer are believed to be correct, given the known history of the car, but cannot be verified due to age.

Overall, this is a clean, classic XK120 that can be enjoyed now as-is, or taken to the next level. It certainly elicits comments wherever it goes and would be welcome in Preservation Class showings anywhere. A realistic reserve has been placed on this car based on rarity and present condition. We expect to easily exceed this amount. Please bid accordingly.

WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS WORLDWIDE.
