 Description

Think of this as a kit car. It has a state of Nebraska assigned VIN number.  Naturally, eBay doesn't recognize that number.  It's 141439914143078NE . This truck was not made by Land Rover.  It was put together in a shop.  It has no Land Rover serial number. Many of the parts were likely made by Land Rover. The vehicle has completed the state of Nebraska inspection process and was assigned a VIN number in May. It has a clear Nebraska title that is transferable to all fifty states.

The truck is very similar to a ROW Land Rover Defender 110 built between 1987 and 1997. The color is Balmoral Green with a white roof. It is powered by a Land Rover 200Tdi* engine. The Transmission is an LT77. All four wheel positions have disc brakes. The frame is galvanized. The wire loom is external to the frame.

The interior is Coniston Green. We lined the floors with a black hard epoxy sealant. The seats are cloth. The door cards and trim pieces are black. Two front bucket seats with a cubby and a three place bench in the back. The cloth in the front and the back do not match. We installed a new iPod ready AM/FM cd player with two front speakers. It has a NAS SW style Sunroof.

The Good:

--The engine runs exceedingly well. I have driven it fairly extensively.  It gets 30mpg on the highway and 21mpg around town. It will make 75 mph on the interstate. The comfortable speed (for almost any Defender, including this one) is 60 mph.

--The tires are about 90%.

--It has new coco mats from front to rear.

--I have owned and driven many real Defenders. This one goes down the road as well as any of them.

--For the most part the body is in good condition with very little corrosion.

--This is not a Land Rover. It does not have a Land Rover VIN.  Please understand this before you make an offer or click the buy it now.

The Not so Good:

--We did not install a headliner. The grab handles above the rear passenger doors are missing. I am sure that there will be unknown plastic trim pieces missing throughout the vehicle.

--The truck does not have Air Conditioning. (This note is for the non-Land Rover people who are sure to call and ask.)

--We did not install insulated front mats in the front over the tunnel. The floor can get a little warm. In January, this is OK. In July, in Nebraska. . . let's just say that you should tell your significant other to wear real shoes and not flip flops prior to a 100 mile trip in 100 degree weather.

--There IS rust in the doors along the steel frames causing the paint to bubble on the aluminum skins.  There is rust on the steel frame on the hood.  Some of this is hard to photograph. When you ask for additional photos, I have some that will show the issue. It is a REPAIRABLE issue. You will not need to replace the doors.

--*Although the title can be transferred to anyone of the other 49 states, sadly, the engine can not. If you are confused about this, please check with your local motor vehicle licensing expert prior to purchase.

If you are a fan of Defenders, want a fuel efficient diesel engine and you understand that you are purchasing vehicle that carries no warranty of any kind, please email or call with questions. I am happy to send a file folder of photos to your email address.

FAQ:

Q: Is there air conditioning?   A: Sheesh.  No.

Q:  Can I license and insure the vehicle in my state?  A: The title is transferable to and in all 50 states.  The engine may pose an issue in several states.  You should consult your insurance agent with any questions about insurance prior to calling me.

Q:  How did you build it?  A:  The magic of a child's laughter, several spare parts, surprisingly few wrenches and elves.  Many, many elves.

Q:  Can I burn WVO in it?  A:  WVO is waste vegtable oil.  At the risk of sounding not green.... don't they sell real diesel fuel where you live?

Q:  Can I put a gas engine in it?  A:  Yes.  As a matter of fact, we would be happy to sell you a 4.0l Land Rover engine to go in it.  Our ability to install such an engine will depend on your wallet and our schedule.

Q:  Do you know how many miles are on it?  A:  We do not know how many miles or kilometers or any other standard unit of measurement that any particular compent on this truck has traveled.  Except the radio.  It has about 500 miles on it.  I listen to NPR a lot - so consider it lightly used.

Q:  Does everything work?  A:  Probably not.  I do not know of anything in particular that doesn't work, but this truck is VERY similar to a Land Rover Defender.   To paraphase the great Jeremy Clarkson, The Land Rover Defender is the most reliable unreliable vehicle on earth.

Q:  Do you take trades?  A: I will take in consideration for this 'Not a Land Rover Defender'  trades of Cash, Gold, Land Rover Defenders and verfiably proven theroms of Cold Fusion.  Cash is valued by it's face (CAN$ and US$ only, please), all other trades will be valued by me.

Q:  What color is that?  It looks black.  A:  It's Balmoral Green.  The top is white.  If you care about such things, it's the same color of the Defender 110 that the Queen of England enjoys.  The interior is more of a coniston green except in the places where it is not.  We don't know how this happened.  We blame the elves.

Q:  Is that LineX on the floor?  We have heard you like that crap.  A:  I do on occasion use LineX.  This is usually due to my laziness or labor strife  with the elves.  There is no LineX on this truck.  The product on the floor is a commercial epoxy product that we were trying out for a NAS 110 restore we are doing.  It is a fine product.  Not very thick, and not insulating. It looks good though.

Q:  Is it WaxOyl'd?  A:  No.  But for a small fee I will have the elves put their space suits on and do that for you.

Q:  Can I buy this and back out because my wife says I can't have it?  I really want to click buy it now!  A:  Please don't do that.  eBay is slow to return those fees. You might be surprised to know how much it costs to list a car on eBay.   Any buyer should CALL or MESSAGE me before clicking the buy it now.   I will take less then the buy it now number.  You should see all of the photos first, which I am happy to email you.   Have your ducks in a row before agreeing to buy this car.  That means go to bank, have them tell you that they will NOT lend money on a kit car.  Talk to your wife/husband/significant other to make sure they are on board with your purchase.  Understand that the joys of Land Rover ownership are not necessarily universal.

Q:  Will you deliver it to me?  A:  The elves will do almost anything for money.  If you live in a place that has a postal code, this vehicle can be delivered to you.  One of the many wonderful things about Omaha is that we are in the middle - the cost is about the same to go anywhere.  (Yeah, I know Kansas people.  You ARE close by.  By 'anywhere' I mean the east and west coasts.)

Q:  Does the exhaust sound good?   A:  It's awesome.  It sounds like a Mack truck on a cool foggy day rumbling down a dirt road.  With All things considered and Click and Clack blaring from the speakers.
