Volvo updates Inscription packages for 2015 XC60, S80

Tue, 01 Apr 2014

Volvo is improving the luxury offered by the XC60 and S80 with upgrades to both models' Inscription packages for 2015. It is also making all of its models (other than the soon-to-be-replaced XC90) available with its new Drive-E engine family and Sensus infotainment system.

The Inscription package was previously available on both the XC60 and S80, but new upgrades include Sovereign Hide leather throughout their interiors, including on their instrument panels, seatbacks, center armrests and headrests. Inscription also adds wood inlaid trim and new floor mats. On the outside, the package is offered in Crystal White Pearl, Electric Silver and – exclusively for the S80 – Ember Black. The XC60 comes with 20-inch, ten-spoke wheels, and the S80 receives 19-inch wheels of the same design.

As part of its sponsorship of a yacht race, Volvo is also bringing the XC60 Ocean Race Edition to the US. Buyers will get their choice of black or blonde leather seats with orange stitching, a map of the race route on the rear load cover and the event's logo around the car.

Coming this summer, all of Volvo's models, except the XC90, will come with the Swedish automaker's latest Sensus infotainment system as standard. It includes a cloud-based service that streams music and allows drivers to book service appointments at their Volvo dealer automatically.

By May, the company's Drive-E engines will also be available in all models save the departing XC90. We've contacted Volvo about pricing for the new packages, and we'll update this story when it replies. Scroll down to get more details on these models' 2015 updates.

VOLVO CARS FEATURES LUXURIOUS INTERIOR PACKAGE FOR MODEL YEAR 2015

ROCKLEIGH, N.J. - A wider choice of personalization possibilities is in sharp focus when Volvo Car Group presents the new model year 2015 lineup. Buyers of the Volvo XC60 and S80 can order a stunning interior upgrade with the luxurious Inscription package.

Inscription package

"The Inscription package offers consumers a complete luxury upgrade of the interior. It is perfectly in line with our aim to move Volvo towards a more premium brand position," says Anders H. Gustavsson, vice president VLM Special Products at Volvo Car Group.

The Inscription package includes Inscription Sovereign Hide full soft leather upholstery in several unique colors, a beautiful leather covered instrument panel, premium wood inlays, soft leather on extended surfaces - such as the back of seats, center armrest and head rest, featuring an embroidered Inscription logo - and unique floor mats.

The exterior Inscription options include three radiant color alternatives – Crystal White Pearl, Electric Silver and Ember Black (S80) as well as 19-inch (S80) or 20-inch (XC60) ten-spoke wheels.

More special editions

Volvo Car Group is celebrating the upcoming 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race, the world's most grueling ocean adventure, with a special edition of sailing-inspired cars. A Volvo Ocean Race Edition of the XC60 will be offered the United States.

Sensus Connect with Volvo On-call

Coming summer 2014, all new Volvos (except XC90) will be equipped with the updated on-board infotainment and navigation experience, Sensus Connect with Volvo On-call, as standard. The cloud-based services allow the driver to find and pay for parking from the car, discover new restaurants at the destination, stream favorite music seamlessly and much more. The HERE Location Platform provides connected navigation with 3D maps.

The brand new Connected Service Booking app tells the driver when it's time to have their car serviced – and suggests an appointment at the Volvo dealership. Sensus also includes an improved, top-of-the-line premium sound system by Harman Kardon with a 5x130W amplifier with the next-generation sound enhancement software Dirac Live and up to 12 loudspeakers.

Super-efficient Drive-E engines for all models

From May 2014, all new Volvo models can be ordered with engines from the new Drive-E powertrain family – offering a world-class blend of drivability and low CO2 emissions.

"The outstanding take-off and responsiveness of the Drive-E engines, combined with a smooth engine sound, will make the cars even more fun to drive, without compromising on modern customers' demand for superb fuel economy and minimized CO2-emissions," says Michael Fleiss, vice president powertrain at Volvo Car Group.
