AS I HAVE HAD THEM COME BACK AND HIT ME SO I KNOW! I HAVE NEVER HAD TO HAVE WORK DONE ON THE ENGINE IN THE SEVERAL YEARS I HAVE HAD THE CAR. ONLY REPLACED BODY AND BRAKE PARTS THAT WEAR DUE TO IT'S AGE. IT PASSES INSPECTION WITHOUT A PROBLEM EACH YEAR. THIS IS A FAST CAR, EASILY MOVING PAST NEWER CARS WITH NO DIFFICULTY THOUGH IT IS ONLY A 4 CYLINDER. THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING WHEN THEY BUILT THIS CAR. I HAVE HAD A RECENT TUNE UP, $1,000, A NEW EXHAUST WITH A LIFE TIME GUARANTEE, NEW TIRES WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS, THERE ARE OTHER NEW PARTS (SMALL PARTS) IN THE TRUNK, THAT HAVE NOT BEEN INSTALLED, BUT NOTHING AGAIN TO DO WITH THE ENGINE. THERE IS A NEW JACK AND PRY BAR IN BACK. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS CAR. IT IS A GREAT CAR TO DEVELOP INTO AN ANTIQUE OR TO USE AS A STARTER CAR FOR A STUDENT. Volvo reveals V60 Cross Country ahead of LA
Wed, 05 Nov 2014Volvo is bringing a model to the Los Angeles Auto Show that isn't afraid to get a little dirty. The Swedish automaker will finally unveil its V60 Cross Country crossover, and it has confirmed that the model will be available in North American markets shortly.
The Cross Country takes Volvo's standard V60 compact wagon and injects a little more off-road capability and visual flavor into the platform. US and Canadian models will arrive with Volvo's 250-horsepower, five-cylinder engine with a standard automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The company says the powertrain should get around 23 miles per gallon fuel economy on the combined cycle.
To be ready to go just a little bit off the beaten path, the suspension sits about 2.6-inches higher than the regular version. The body is also equipped with skid plates in the front and rear, side scuff plates, fender extensions and exhaust outlets integrated into the rear bumper. Hill Descent Control will also augment capability, as well.
Current Volvo XC90 to live on in China?
Fri, 28 Mar 2014The current, long-serving Volvo XC90 might not be going away as soon as we thought - at least not in China. According to word from CarNewsChina, the crossover's production will be moved to Daqing, China, in December and from that point on, be built at Geely's factory. The only available engine will be a 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder.
According to the report, the present XC90 and the imminent next-generation model will both be sold in the market, but the Chinese-made vehicle will be positioned as a cheaper alternative. Geely will also develop a crossover of its own from the platform that should be ready in late 2015.
Volvo plans to launch the new XC90 later this year to replace the aging model, which has been on the market for over a decade. It will ride on the company's new Scaleable Product Architecture platform and will be powered by the automaker's new Drive-E four-cylinder engine family. Hybrid versions will also be available.
IIHS says these are the safest cars of 2013
Wed, 02 Jan 2013The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has revealed its annual list of Top Safety Picks, an award that highlights automobiles it says offer "superior crash protection." A new and still more significant award, the Top Safety Pick+ honor, is given to those vehicles that earn good ratings for occupant protection in four out of five areas of measure. And while some 117 vehicles were given the TSP seal of approval for 2013, just 13 passed muster for TSP+.
To be fair, IIHS only evaluated 29 vehicles with its new testing procedures for TSP+ (we'd expect that the number of qualified cars will rise substantially for 2014). Luxury and Near Luxury midsize cars were the first groups evaluated, followed by midsizers in the Moderately Priced Cars category - unsurprisingly, it's only midsize cars that you'll find among the class this year.
Only two luxury sedans made the list of 13 for 2013: the Acura TL and Volvo S60. The other 11 cars on the list included entries from domestic, Japanese and German car makers: Dodge Avenger, Chrysler 200, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord (sedan and coupe), Kia Optima (but not its close kin, the Hyundai Sonata, strangely), Nissan Altima, Subaru Legacy and Outback, Suzuki Kizashi and the Volkswagen Passat all made the grade.
