WOW, this is the real deal, a very rare opportunity to own and drive a museum quality car just like the shiny new Volvo 240 that your Volvo dealer had on the showroom floor in 1991. This vehicle was purchased new in early 1992 by an elderly couple who loved driving manual transmission cars and kept it parked inside their garage it's entire life. And it is equipped with a 5 speed manual transmission to boot. We have serviced this vehicle since 2001 and have all the records available for inspection. A new clutch was installed in 2012 and the A/C system was updated to R134A freon using the Volvo factory kit (no longer available) in 2003 and is colder than new. Other than oil changes, brake pads and normal maintenance items that is all that has been required through it's very low 47,000 mile life. Essentially it is still very much like a new car. This vehicle has a driver's side air bag and anti-lock brakes. The Michelin agility tires were replaced less than 20,000 miles ago and still have the mold marks from when they were new. The front brake pads have approx. 35% remaining thickness and the rear pads have approx.  75% remaining. The original AM/FM cassette radio and amplifier have power and ground but are not making a sound. We anticipate the new owner wanting to update the radio to a more  modern CD player after taking ownership. All the lenses including tail lights, headlights and turn signals are clear and look new. The visor clips are intact on both visors. The plastic door pockets are not broken on either side. The interior is flawless and the blue cloth seats still feel new, of course this vehicle has never been smoked in. All power windows and locks function as new. In short, if you had taken a 1991 Volvo 240 for a test drive when new this is what it would feel like.

Stolen first production Volvo P1800 recovered

Wed, 04 Sep 2013

Late last month, we told you about a 1961 Volvo P1800 that had been stolen in Sweden. The thought of losing a classic coupe to an unscrupulous thief is troubling enough, but this wasn't just any P1800 - it was the very first production example minted, and the restored red-over-white two-door was owned by the vice president of the Swedish P1800 Club to boot. Chassis Number Two was pilfered from a Stockholm lockup on either August 21 or 22, and the theft triggered an international hunt of sorts.
Fortunately, that hunt has come to a (mostly) happy ending. According to Larmtjänst AB, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting vehicle crime in Sweden, the car was spotted by someone who had read about the missing classic. The P1800 was recovered in Hägerstensvägen, a municipality of Stockholm, after being found abandoned on the road covered with a tarp. The owner is reportedly very relieved that his Volvo is mostly intact, marred only by a broken ignition and a dirty interior.

Volvo reveals 400-hp twin-charged PHEV power for new XC90 [UPDATE]

Tue, 08 Jul 2014

UPDATE: An earlier version of this post indicated that the larger of the conventional diesel engines was a five-cylinder. However all three powertrains announced for the upcoming new XC90 are actually four-cylinder engines. The text has been updated accordingly.
Volvo rolled in to new territory when it introduced the original XC90 back in 2002, creating its first SUV and one of its top-selling models. But that was 12 years ago. In the meantime it's followed up with the smaller XC60, but what the brand faithful and the industry at large have been looking forward to most is the arrival of the new XC90.
Previewed by the Concept XC Coupe at the Detroit Auto Show, the new XC90 is set to arrive later this year, but to keep us on our toes, the Swedish automaker has been steadily trickling out a stream of information and photos. Two months ago it gave us a glimpse inside the cabin, and last month it revealed its new infotainment system, but now Volvo has released details on the upcoming new XC90's powertrain.

Volvo Trucks makes some pretty strong brakes

Mon, 05 May 2014

Often dashcam footage from Russia shows some of the worst driving imaginable, but this is an exception. The Volvo truck driver in this video definitely earned himself a drink or two at the end of the day after making it through this potentially horrific crash. As do the folks at Volvo that engineered those brakes.
The truck driver shows some fantastic reaction time as the silver hatchback suddenly pulls out of an intersection. It looks like he only has a few yards to bring the behemoth to a stop before demolishing the little car. While it's an impressive feat, the best part of the video has to be the driver's bow when he gets out of the truck. He looks like a maestro who just finished conducting a symphony asking for a round of applause.
Scroll down to check out this truck driver's skills and see if he earns his bow afterward.
